How long have you been playing on Aurora?

I have played on-and-off for several years. I first joined back on the NSS Aurora, maybe a year or so before we came to the Horizon.

 

Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they?

I have not received any administrative actions.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?

The Command positions are ultimately facilitators and supporters. This takes several forms, including answering “what do we do now,” supporting cross-department interaction and cooperation, and generally providing opportunities for players to participate in the round. While they are common targets or participants in antag gimmicks in other events, they are not the main character nor should they seek to abuse their authority to position themselves as such. Instead, they should offer guidance and delegate tasks to their subordinates to ensure engagement with the round, while giving space for RP, player agency, and antag gimmicks. In effect, their purpose is to enable and support engagement with the round and RP for the players around them, ideally while inspiring a high standard of roleplay.

 

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?

Command players have a high standard of responsibility to the community, both positively and negatively. Command positions, especially ones like the HoS and Captain, have the ability to majorly affect other players’ rounds for the worse. This is one of their primary responsibilities: to avoid abusing their authority in this way, to properly respect the agency of the other players of their department, and to remember that their power and authority are designed to serve the wellbeing of not only the ship, but also the community. On the other hand, they also have a responsibility to contribute to a welcoming and flourishing community, both IC and OOC. Even the most stern-browed HoS has the opportunity to improve a new player’s round by giving them mechanical guidance or the opportunity to participate in the happenings of the ship. I would restate these above responsibilities more concisely as “Command players have a responsibility to use their position to improve the quality of each round they participate in.”

 

Explain how the recent events in the Spur changed your character and how they came to be employed on the SCCV Horizon.

Chamberlain, a shell IPC, spent nearly the first decade of his existence as a personal assistant and security guard for a wealthy and elderly Mendell City executive, which ended when his owner passed away. Perhaps it was years of faithful service which inspired Chamberlain being granted his freedom in the will of his late owner, or perhaps it was an act of spite against his owner’s jealous and greedy daughters. Regardless of the reason, Chamberlain found himself to be a free IPC. He quickly moved to pursue his citizenship by joining the TCFL, barely a year before Admiral Ozdemir’s invasion. Chamberlain’s service in the defense of Tau Ceti was followed by his deployment to Mictlan during the Peacekeeper Mandate. By the time the Minutemen had been deployed to Mictlan, Chamberlain cycled out, and served a few months in pirate-hunting before finalizing his citizenship and moving to the private sector. His years of service with distinction earned him a post among the security forces aboard the Odin, a post he has fulfilled until his recent transfer to HoS post on the Horizon, after his completion of the appropriate education.

 

In addition to the material changes to Chamberlain’s life like his citizenship and employment, his background has shaped his beliefs: working as a personal security worker has instilled a strong sense of loyalty and personal decorum, both expected his owner; the Solarian invasion brought Chamberlain’s newfound freedom and path to citizenship under threat from a government famously harsh on synthetics, provoking a strong sense of respect for liberty and the rule of law; and the occupation of Mictlan presented him with both the great danger of the hidden enemy and the vast number of innocents harmed in the war, inspiring a deep sense of justice and commitment to the fulfillment of his duties in a way that both provides for the safety of those he is to protect and upholds his principles.

 

What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted?

I plan on playing HoS, and am interested in Captain and XO, though I would want more experience as Bridge crew first. I also would love to play as a Consular/Representative, particularly a Ta.

I would be very excited to see Pictish expand into command and especially as a Ta consular or rep, from my experiences with them both OOC and IC it has always been fun or atleast doing the best to make it so and I have enjoyed my roleplay with his characters, I have no doubt that he would understand how to utilise his role in a command position to effectively achieve the responsibilities he believes that they need to do.
