Hex #1e1e1e) Have you read the lore pages for the species you wish to be whitelisted for?: Of course Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this species?: I think the Tajara are really interesting. They’re certainly a different take on feline species than I’m used to. I love seeing the other Tajara roleplayers interact. The dynamics between them are very fun to watch, and I think it’d be very enjoyable to dive into them as well. Not to mention their rich lore which is still very ongoing with no stagnation in sight. What makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a human?: The obvious example is their society. It’s very different from modern (in terms of Aurora) human society. They’ve only recently broken away from their entrenched nobility of thousands of years. A caste system that has ruled them for just as long. Now they are free from it, and struggling internally with immense factionalism and ideals, fully ready to point the gun at one another again despite the immense loss of life from their first revolution. Their story and society is one humans have experienced at the end of the 19th century and going into the 20th century. Modernization and global revolutions. As on Aurora you can play just about any Tajaran faction, one keeps in mind the relationship between them. I would not say they are all too different to humanity in that regard, at least compared to other aliens, and are probably the most human-like out of Aurora’s aliens. (I’m not counting IPCs since they were, of course, made by humans.) Biologically, there are quite some differences as well. Tajara are a furred, digitigrade species with tails. Their tails in particular are significant, as they are used in many of their languages, and even some instruments. Their fur is another key feature, as it has kept them warm through the ages on Adhomai’s freezing surface, though outside of Adhomai, their sturdiness of the cold has left them vulnerable to more temperate climates humans are accustomed to. Their legs and feet render them incompatible with human footwear as well, though this hasn’t led to many issues as they can simply wear different shoes. Additionally, their eyes and ears are more attuned compared to humans, being more sensitive for their ears and their eyes allowing much better dark vision, much like our furry companions on Earth. Vocally they have a tendency to roll their r’s when speaking, though where with humans its a regional thing, for Tajara its all of them. Tajaran ethnicities are also a bit different from human ethnicities, whereas with humans you’ll have global/regional differences, its far more rigid globally with Tajara as their ethnicities are based upon their caste, which has led to the same few ethnicities showing up all over Adhomai rather than distinct regions. ------------------------------ Character Application Character Name: Rikran’khan Jri’chur (Full: Rikran’khan Nal’tor Ahk’dra) Write a backstory for your character. This may include their origin, education, personality and how they arrived to the SCCV Horizon. Rikran’khan Nal’tor Ahk’dra was born on Adhomai to two loving Zhan-Khazan parents in the city of Nal’tor in 2442, five years before the second revolution would start to begin. Due to her family staying within the molds of the caste system, the family were generally exempt from bigotry from traditionalists, primarily due to her father’s insistence on staying to what ‘Zhan knew best’. He was primarily an engineer for the city, and never seeked to go beyond ‘his station’. She saw what became of other Zhan that tried to work in areas thought ill-suited of them, and it never sat well with her. After all, the PRA was meant to dissolve such systems, but if it is still there in spirit, what difference did they actually make? Her childhood would be cut short by the war, unfortunately, and her father left for the fight against the Liberation Army. At age sixteen, she and her mother would receive news that her father was killed in action in the Battle of Ron’tul in 2458, and as consequence, Rikran’khan seeked additional work to assist her griefstruck mother. It would not last, however, as her mother would likewise find her grave in the Nal’tor bombardment of 2461 by the Royal Navy when she was nineteen. Furious at the loss of her parents, Rikran’khan found work in the PRA’s war machine as a machinist, notably work ‘better suited’ for the Hharar which caused no end of issues, fixing combat exosuits and prosthetics for the Republican Army. Rikran had always been an exceptional engineer like her father, but she wanted more for herself that he never wanted for himself. Such is why she seeked employment as a combat machinist, and after proving she was capable, allowed to commit to such work. She survived the war, but not without the scars that come with it. Adhomai was now once again fractured, now with three factions upon the world. She was reviled by both the DPRA and NKA for their contributions in the slaying of her family, and rejected both of their ideals outright at first. However, learning of how the DPRA government worked, a proper democracy, she liked the idealism. It allowed more voices to be heard, for the suffering to be heard, which the PRA struggles with immensely. The NKA, to her, however, was nothing. They were royalists trying to remake the world as it was, with all its problems, with all its oppression. The NKA deserves total annihilation, but perhaps the DRPA could be subsumed and integrated, some of its ideals being used and integrated into the greater PRA for a better future. She was exceptionally talented at her work as a combat machinist, thoroughly disproving it as work for only the Hharar, and even gained the respect of her peers. After the end of the war, she took up civilian mechanics, working in a shop until yet another tragedy struck her life. While working on an exosuit, an improper procedure was done by one of her coworkers. It shifted, pinning Rikran’khan down and crushing her right leg, arm, and her spine. She was saved, and survived, but now entirely crippled. Thankfully, likely assisted due to her involvement in the war, Rikran’khan was allowed to have tesla augments installed, allowing her to move and work again. This led to another political revelation, that these augments should be better put to use in the civilian world, that more access to them should be granted. Had she not been a veteran, how long would she have to wait? Another big contributing factor to her Young Hadiist ideals was the fact she is a Zhan that is extremely talented in work not suited for her caste. The PRA’s obsession with servitude to the state and castework discrimination ultimately serves no one. While she hates the DPRA for causing the war, they had some better ideals concerning government. Perhaps, then, with unification of Adhomai, the PRA could be reformed into a better government. It was, still, however, the same PRA that has made her life difficult, and at this point in her journey, she decided escape was better for now. There was little left for her on Adhomai. Friends drifted apart, family dead in the war… So she looked to the alien corporations. NanoTrasen would be easy, as they were all over the planet like flies to a festering corpse. But to Rikran, they were the most exploitative. She desired a better choice, and ultimately went with the Hephaestus Corporation. Its engineering focus was perfect for her, after all, and she signed on with little effort. She immediately found work at a Hephaestus asteroid mining rig, where she spent the day fixing mining exosuits and robots, but it was strange for her. She had never really interacted with aliens before, and now here they are. Human, Unathi, Vaurca, Skrell, IPCs, all making their way through life like her. At first she distrusted them, but came to know them and learn they aren’t quite different from her or the Tajara. They all have known strife and war, and yet their peoples forge onward all the same. Adaptation came quickly to Rikran, and with it, a newfound hope for Adhomai. If these aliens can change their lives for the better, surely it is possible for the Tajara as well. She even met other Tajara aboard the mining outpost, even ones from the other factions. She did not trust them at all at first, and even got in a few drunken fights off-shift, but she came to realize that it would not do to flare up constant battlements. These are not the people directly responsible for her loss, nor the war. They were all pawns in the great game between nations, doing as they were told. She would have to move on from these petty fights. Rikran found herself no different than the people who hurt her for being a Zhan. A new Tajara nation would have to be one without this petty hatred for what one is or was. After a few writeups and talks with the security chief, Rikran ceased her fights with others, and even spoke to some of the DPRA members, learning of their ideology and ways; ways that she believe the Young Hadiists could use to better the PRA. As a person, Rikran’khan is a quiet person. Despite this, she’s an avid gambler and drinker in attempts to drown her sorrow. Despite this, she has an excellent work ethic, dutifully doing her job with no complaints. Life has made her rugged and jaded, and she’s still slow to trust others in the DPRA or NKA. She drinks, she smokes, she gambles, she cries. Rikran’khan is an immensely broken woman who hides it well. Religiously, Rikran’khan follows the tenants of S’rendarr and Messa, particularly Messa due to the tragedy of her life. With the darkness of revolution and familial loss, she fails to see S’rendarr’s message often. She offers the solemn prayer to both, occasionally, but often more towards Messa to protect her lost family and comrades. The Ma’ta’ke hold little day-to-day significance to Rikran, however, and she reveres them casually. In another life, perhaps, she may have become a Sun Sister, but this life is not this one. Every workday is ended with a prayer to her lost parents, wishing them well in the beyond and for their and Messa’s guidance for the next day. How has the recent events of the Orion Spur impacted your character? Events such as the Phoron Scarcity, the Solarian Collapse or even the Invasions of Biesel for interstellar-wide affairs, while region-specific events such as the Peacekeeper Mandate, The Titan Rises or even Cold Dawn may impact your character. Immensely. The Tajaran revolution and cold war have shaped her perspective a lot. While she didn’t particularly care about world politics in her youth, the loss of her parents changed that. While she has some disagreements with the PRA, and is a member of the Young Hadiists and believes in reformation of the government to be better than it is, she is dead set in seeing it as the only government on Adhomai. The DPRA and NKA should be defeated and absorbed in her eyes. A unified Adhomai is the only future. The Phoron Scarcity hasn’t made things any better back home either, despite the PRA’s alternative technologies. To her, it’s only a matter of time before war begins again. How does your character view the megacorporation they work for? A means to an end, really. Hephaestus pays decently enough to keep Idris collections off her back, while keeping her plenty busy. She doesn’t particularly have any immense loyalty to the alien corporation, but she doesn’t have any reason to spit at them either. It’s an amicable relationship. Girdio Posted Monday at 16:11 Posted Monday at 16:11 Lynx has been pretty invested in improving on their last application. I know Lynx reached out to myself and others for feedback and ways to incorporate more insight into their understanding of Tajara lore. Furthermore, their current characters have been a fun inclusion within the Horizon, and I don't have any worries with their roleplay ability. +1 1
