LordQuailius's Skrell Application

Recommended Posts

BYOND Key: LordQuailius

Character Names: Dante Wulfe, Cherry Cook

How long have you been playing on Aurora: Only a few days, sadly.

Species you are applying to play: Skrell

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Arctic Color [Light Blue/Light Green area]

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes!

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race: I think it best fits the race of a character I had in mind that I would use to better learn Baystation medical and science mechanics. Also, there aren't many Skrell and I think it would be cool to play as one. I've only ever seen one on the server so far. This would be my first alien character on this server, and I think it would be a great opportunity and challenge to roleplay as an alien species as opposed to an every day human. It would also give me more interactions, such as with dionae players, and in general give me more spice to work with in terms of roleplaying. The main point is that it fits the character I had in mind best, compared to other races.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:Oh plenty of things, really. The Skrell are a prideful race that don't take insults to their race like a human would. Instead of being engulfed in fear, they are engulfed in a calmness and acceptance of death. They revere Dionae and the man that discovered them like heroes (and potentially even gods). Their lack of teeth and tongues affects their speech on both a Basic/English level, as well as their racial communication which displays far more emotion and gesture than Basic/English, or any of the other racial languages. They're far more advanced than humans and tend to pick up on things quicker than them. Not to mention that sex isn't the same in that Skrell see it as mandatory for the progression of race and other races for pleasure.

Character Name: Nie-Tienni Marik-Tup [nee-tee-enn-ee meh-rick-tuhp]

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

Thanks to Crescentise for the backstory guidance~!

Nie-Tienni was born 63 years ago on Aliose, a cold planet located somewhere in the inner system of Jargon, to a large family of arctic Skrell that had moved there primarily in order to work at the acclaimed Aliose University of Medical Science (while also having the benefit of the cold weather they were so accustomed to from Jargon IV, and to avoid the overpopulation there). Like most Skrell, she grew up with a strong passion to learn more about medicine and science. What caught her attention the most were the dionae she encountered, as well as discovering the hero behind the discovery of those Dionaea and the origin behind part of her namesake, Weriu Tup. Afterwards, as a teenager, she went forth and did extensive research behind both the Dionaea and Weriu Tup and discovered that an entire religion had been dedicated to the both of them. So, from then on, although not to an extreme extent, she became a Dienabi follower.

Once she was about 50, she attended the acclaimed Aliose University of Medical Science with 27 of her other siblings. She pursued primarily medical science, though she dabbled in some science as well. During her studies, she met a nice diona and quickly befriended them. They became extremely close during their school years, even closer than family. Though she might have bonded strongly with her new diona friend, she still never forgot her family and all 32 of her siblings. They were strongly bonded, and even now working at Nanotrasen she tries to write a letter every now and then to send back to her parents Aliose, or other planets that her siblings had moved off to. Her family influenced her greatly and gave her the ambition to raise a large family herself.

After graduation, Nie-Tienni and her diona friend continued to stay close. However, their friendship wouldn't last. Only a couple of years after her graduation, she had lost all communication with her friend, whom had gone off to work on a research and development facility under the Zeng-Hu Pharmaceuticals corporation. Later, Nie-Tienni would discover that the facility had been attacked and no survivors had been reported. Ni-Tienni was devastated by the sheer grief of losing her closest and most trusted friend. Despite this, Nie-Tienni held her head up strong and decided to join the NNS Aurora in order to keep researching for her lost friend.

What do you like about this character? I like how her personality is cool, calm, and collective nearly at all times. She's an intelligent person, but has an emotional, motherly side to her in how she takes care of people. She takes pride in her race and her culture and, although mostly a mature, serious, and hardworking female, she can be quite bubbly and friendly if you befriend her. It's a breath of fresh air and a character where I just can't put a reflection of my personality into, which I think would be fun to role-play as.

How would you rate your role-playing ability?I'd say my role-playing ability is pretty good. I've been roleplaying off and on for about ~8 years, starting from a kids forum and expanding from there. Dante Wulfe's flavor text should give you some context on how good my writing capabilities are. My main weakness, though, is that I'm awful at backstories. Edit: Proper thanks to Crescentise for the backstory aid!

Notes:I ask stupid questions in OOC chat. Also, I'm not sure if I'd get accepted if I applied this early, but it's better than not applying at all, so...why not?

W-Well I've been credited three times on this, but Quailius did all of it. I just gave a couple of pointers for where to look for inspiration. I relied on my judgement for the stuff about Aliose - seeing as it's mentioned literally once in barely any detail - so if anyone has gripes with that, yell at me and not him.

This is one of the most real, developed, and lore-true backstories I've ever seen for an app. Despite never playing a round with the guy, his writing style is clearly up to and beyond the standard. His answers are as in-depth as possible. The flavourtext for Wulfe is well-written. Trust this guy with a Skrell. I implore you.

+1

(HE EVEN DID THE 'TUP' THING GUYS. HE DID THE TUP THING. ISN'T THAT AWESOME.)

Accepted. But I need to let people know, Aliose was a typo. It shouldn't be there. It was my original planned name for the planet Jargon but I was shot down and forgot to change it in that one instance xD but I am willing to accept Aliose as an actual planet Cresc, provided you wish to write some lore for it :)
