Jakers457 Posted July 4, 2015 Posted July 4, 2015 So, experiencing the communal brig first hand, I've found a lot of setbacks with the design. The fact it lacks most of the facilities the old perma-brig had, makes it pretty boring for the player as they don't anything to do or interact with save for the donk pockets. So adding machines might be a nice addition to players who still wish to roleplay while in the brig. The second thing would be moving the infirmary to where the shell of CSI's coroner lab used to be. Utilizing the wasted space that currently serves as an 'I was here tag' for the late lab. That way, we can alter where the infirmary currently is into a room contain basic beds and toilets for permanent prisoners. It would be a nice addition to have opposed to sitting the big room for most of the round.
Susan Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 What the old Permabrig had that 'had things to interact with': Arcade machine. Plants. (that always died because you have no fertilizer or tools to take care of them with) Donk pockets. What the new Permabrig has that people can interact with: Arcade machine. Donk pockets. I literally fail to grasp what you're complaining about. Permawing bunks are not necessary. Use an empty cell.
EvilBrage Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 An empty cell that may or may not be locked from the other side because of the way the cell controls work. The old permabrig actually had a few methods by which a prisoner could potentially catch his captors offguard and escape - a water tank and a bucket, the soap in the bathroom (which was a nice little spot away from the prying eyes of cameras, mind.) A communal brig seemed like a good idea, but it hasn't really accomplished any more interaction among prisoners since there really only tends to be one or two prisoners awake at a time - not to mention it's completely thrown off the possibility of escape, bar the random "trojan" event. If some of these aspects were returned (or maybe some new features, items, etc. added) then perhaps we'd see prisoners actually interact together - or conspire together in an escape attempt.
jackfractal Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 The complete inability to escape is something I brought up when the design was originally proposed. It's way more effective than the previous jail for preventing escapes, even escapes with outside help. That's what you want from a jail in reality, but it's not necessarily a good thing for a game. Especially with how incredibly limited maintenance is on the new map. Even if you get out, if you're being hunted by security there is nowhere to hide.
Jakers457 Posted July 5, 2015 Author Posted July 5, 2015 Permawing bunks are not necessary. Use an empty cell. Perma-briggers don't get cells, they kind of just sit in the one big room with little else to do. I've yet to see the big 'social interaction' with the communal brig seeing as at most, as it's been already said, you have maybe two prisoners who are awake. While most people don't care much to visit those who are in permabrig due to being occupied by their jobs and such. Sure, short term, the communal brig is passable but long term stays are somewhat boring for those who wish to remain in the game without going SSD. My first idea was to have a 'perma-lock' option for the cell timers, so we wouldn't need to shuffle the layout for the perma-wing bunks but this didn't make much sense, if you were to keep in mind that the cells might get taken up by perma's leaving short term briggers without a cell to be put in. Plus, they're not planning to give CSI their autopsy room back any time soon, so it's a wasted room with cobwebs and a machine frame so I'd rather it be used for something that might serve a purpose.
Guest Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 I had a prisoner breakout last night from communal, its not an impenetrable fortress.
Jakers457 Posted July 5, 2015 Author Posted July 5, 2015 I had a prisoner breakout last night from communal, its not an impenetrable fortress. That's true, I managed to break out the other night by uplinking a tool box and hacking my way through the infirmary.
Tenenza Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 I am sad that prison breakouts are always very uncool. Smuggling in a knife, maybe some thermite, or even a security-access ID card? That would be pretty cool. But just bashing your way out of prison is kinda stupid in my opinion. Very tasteless. Hacking is fine though. It's cool enough.
Guest Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 I had someone have their chemist friend thermite the damn wall down while I was getting a promotion (Warden to Int HoS) came back to an empty brig, was sad and pissed off

It's very cinamtic. I could imagine that happening in a movie.
