Aetherscald Posted September 8, 2015 Posted September 8, 2015 BYOND Key: Aetherscald Character Names: David Swainsborough is a scientist/xenobiologist who has an obsession with establishing a scientific legacy for himself. He alters between having dementia to having cancer in his nervous system depending on which job he's playing. As a cancerous Xenobiologist he is obsessed with finding a cure for his disease through slime breeding, which leads to him attempting to breed green slimes and injecting himself with the core. Thus curing him and securing his legacy as the first xenohuman to cure a terminal illness. As a scientist he is obsessed with perfecting a formula for a chemical gas bomb that can reach supernova proportions. Aodh O'hara is my engineer of Celtic descent who is prideful of his abilities despite his gimp leg. He aspires to become a chief engineer as well as to know the ins and outs of the station. When he's not working, he's drinking at the bar and challenging his coworkers to boxing matches. Salvador Guttierez is a Colombian quartermaster who has a secret life of crime. He stylizes himself as a smuggler of weapons, drugs, and bodies and is always looking to cut a deal with the right people to get ahead in life. Quick to sell his associates out to stay one step ahead of a prison cell, he has evaded prison for years. A womanizer by heart, he has a soft spot for the ladies and will sometimes take a risk to woo any he likes. Species you are applying to play: Dionae Gestalt What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): n/a Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: In character, I love playing a neutral alien species that just want to perform a task and learn things rather than be emotionally invested in anything like character relations. I like that Dionae are hard to kill as well and I generally don't like waiting forever to be cloned or borged or what have you so staying alive is a plus. I also just generally gravitate towards hiveminded or plant-like aliens anyways. I've played a dionae nymph and gestalt a few times before on other servers so I already have some experience with the species. Out of character reasons are that I play the game on a slow crappy laptop and I move noticeably slower than other humans when i'm playing a human. This isn't a problem as a dionae gestalt however as there isn't any delay for a species that already moves slowly. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Dionaea are generally unambitious in comparison to humans. They love to learn and are very curious, and also have no concept of human concepts like sleep or personal space. They also refer to themselves as "we" or "us" in reference to their existence as several lifeforms. Off the top of my head I believe they also emulate other species' emotions and personality quirks. Character Name: The Canopy of Horizons Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs The Canopy of Horizons was grown from a diona pod in the Zeng-hu pharmaceuticals labs by a fellow Dionae gestalt named "Light upon the Silver Lake" who was the resident Xenoflorist. Horizons would go on to learn from the scientists and Lake, the fundamentals of botany and chemistry. Eventually, once reaching adulthood, Horizons decided to dedicate their life to researching plant-based animals and organisms, hoping to find a correlation to their own origins. Through years of dedicated observation and study under the tutelage of other Zeng-Hu scientists, Horizons grasped the mechanics of botany adequately and filed for transfer to an outpost on a terrestrial jungle planet, bidding farewell to their former colleagues and Lake, their mentor. Upon arriving Horizons allegedly made great strides researching sentient plant life but was forced to leave due to a strange anomaly occurring to that planet's star, which led to Horizon's current namesake, as the event nearly led to their death from lack of radiation to feed off of. This event would also have a dramatic effect on Horizons, having him research and invest in religion before deciding upon their own theological philosophy that they sometimes share with other individuals who are interested. Zeng-hu would establish an inter-corporate employee contract involving not only Horizons, but 137 individual workers as well, to foster relations with Nanotrasen for future collaborative projects between companies. This made no difference to Horizons as they were more than happy to work in a larger more well equipped station with a diverse host of crew. What do you like about this character? If I had to say I liked anything about Horizons, it would be their fondness for other Dionae and organic life in general as they are a station born and raised Dionae, hardly experiencing a wholly natural environment save for their own lab. This leads to interesting interactions with dionae, humans, tajarans, etc. but also makes Horizons less likely to want to interact with IPCs or go anywhere there isn't a host of organisms. They enjoy the company on living breathing beings but are reluctant to be reminded that they are in space and surrounded by metal and plastic, save for the few pockets of organic rooms that exist on the station, such as the library or hydroponics lab. So I basically like my character for liking their roots. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Probably an 8/10. It really depends on how engaging the other person is.Notes: The primary jobs The Canopy of Horizons would stick with are Chaplain or Botanist, possibly even Xenobiologist. It goes Chaplain medium, Xenobiologist low, Botanist High. This is mainly because I want this character to be someone nobody NEEDS to be quick or responsive for.

I_speak_money Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 Roleplayed with David many times and I've had quite the fun with his character. Very good roleplay from his part and I am fully confident that he is more than capable of playing this Diona character of his.
