Guest Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Alright, so, I've been put in charge of the Mars lore and have gone ahead to implamented the changes to its Wiki page, as the existing lore was almost universally agreed upon as lacking and outdated. Not to waste your attention span, I'll just run a short Q&A. Q&A: I don't like it at all, can you change something? Yes. Suggestions are welcome. In fact, you are free to make your own version of the entire wiki page if you feel prolific. What is new that I need to know about? Something that was always mixed up, Mars does not have a breathable atmosphere or even a temperate one at that. It's a peripetually thawing and freezing rock with low gravity. However, a change has been made to make the atmosphere dense enough to be traversable with, at the very least, a gas mask and oxygen tank. It is no longer poor. It is a rich, industrial and civilized planet. However, due to the atmosphere, almost everyone lives in pressurized environments. The dense population of the planet means that space is conserved and expensive. A mansion under a biodome would be insanely expensive. Keep that mind if you decide to take that route. Mars is now as politically, culturally, areographically varied and fructured as 21st century Earth (just without wars). You are free to theorize and talk about internal politics of the petty nation-states of Mars, be my guest. Also, characters can belong to any ethnicity you want and can keep to 'traditions', it's actually welcome. Just, don't go overboard with stuff that effects the entire planet. Aliens don't live on Mars in significant number. It's a core Human world, one that's unlikely to recive imigrants, especially aliens. However, your alien characters could've worked there at some point, or went for education or work. Just, them living there is highly unlikely. What do I need to forget? Nova Concordia being the capital of Sol Alliance. (It's Unity City Station in orbit of Earth) Lowell City being the capital of the planet, it's Olympia. (Lowell City still exists as the largest and richest one) Mars being properly terraformed with rivers, plants and animals. (There are some areas, but those are by far an exception) Mars having a proper military. (It's almost all Sol military now) So, with that out of the way, feel free to ask questions in the appropriate Lore Questions subforums, not here. Also, you are welcome to forward any suggestions, grammar nazisim episodes or hate to me personally, I'm looking forward to them and am eager to see people cared and get involved. Thank you. Quote
Tomixcomics Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Hmm. Well, while this does not affect my martian character specifically (Besides the fact he now grew in a dome, I guess, rather than a terraformed area, and is in the capitol now), I do think this seems to take out an interesting element of mars. I thought that it having had a large struggling population made it more interesting seeing how earth is already post-war enough to be doing fairly well and New Mendell is a thriving economy. Gave characters a central and commonly-enough known location that offers a lower class background. Quote
Conservatron Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 back a long while ago I was given some 'spur of the moment' lore by the lore team for my home city on Mars, (i THINK it was written by Jackboot) I just want to confirm that it'll still be valid with the updates, none of it actually affects the major changes: Divitiae, a land ready for wealth as one of the first settlements on Mars. It was later overshadowed by other settlements hitting a boom in resources and development. The settlement's motto, "audentes fortuna iuvat" (fortune favors the bold), still echoes in whispered voices. Basically, the theme was a prospective mining city that is in economic distress due to the discovery of other veins far richer and cheaper to exploit. It was settled in a mad dash to hit the mining market early and missed the mark, so to speak. I was modeling it after Detroit, where it once had a thriving economy but is now a blight Quote
Guest Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 From massive shitholes like Dehli, through semi-ordely shitholes like London, to simpler yet more orderly American country townholes, Earth is vary varied. To claim that every human has same living conditions is a lie. This is something I tried to replicate with Mars, but with a more 'alien' and 'futuristic' twist. Hmm. I thought that it having had a large struggling population made it more interesting seeing how earth is already post-war enough to be doing fairly well and New Mendell is a thriving economy. Gave characters a central and commonly-enough known location that offers a lower class background. Overall it is highly developed and rich, mostly due to trade, industry and space mining. It is, however, varied. Each city still has its poor. Some city's poor are actually middle class by galactic standards, some poor live in shitty slums void of healthy atmosphere and heating. Use your imagination. I guess the capital, Olympia, will do. Their biodomes would be much cheaper to mentain to due to higher quality terraforming. I'll gladly implement this. As said above, massive shitholes still exist, it's just that the largest cities are the cream of human civilization and development. The self-centered attitude of the colonies made sure that true unity was never achived, so many were left to their own devices and fates. I didn't know this was a thing, at all. If you want, I will implement the city with its name directly into the wiki, but I need to sort out the details with you or whoever wrote this. PM if you are interested. I'm looking for aditional player's cities, as well, but would prefer if they helped expand the 'volatile political era' narative. Otherwise, still appriciated. Quote
