Sovieteer Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Ballistic Pistols Security and Command Weaponry BYOND C-Key: Sovieteer What is this sorcery in which you speak of? The pistol is a common weapon in today's world, and even in the world of SS13. However, I've noticed that only energy pistols or even retro lasers are the common handgun among most station's Security and Command (excluding retro lasers, depending on code). Ballistic projectile weapons only come in the form of shotguns for the station. Other weapons belong to non-station assets, such as the Syndicate. Maybe Security should be armed with these too. The NT Mk58 One of my various ideas, the NT Mk58 would be a normal ballistic pistol that would take .45 caliber rounds in a magazine of 7 rounds. As I've seen with other codes, there were many variants for this caliber. One such variant was a .45 rubber bullet, which caused damage but was still considered non-lethal. The pain inflicted would make the target flinch and some damage would come from it. Regular .45 would be distributed (usually from Cargo) in the case of immediate threats that require more lethal means of elimination. Finally, there was the .45 Flash, which would explode into a flash upon contact with an object or material, and leave ashes. The damages to the person are still yet unknown, but it shouldn't be much. Why should we even get this? Energy weapons are much over-done, and if you lose the weapon it takes time and money to get that weapon back. With the NT Mk58, the weapon can be distributed with Code Blue gear and fitted with .45 rubber or flash rounds for non-lethal take downs of hard targets. Some may say this is a militarization, but I believe it gives Security a fighting chance when it comes to some game-modes or scenarios within the game. You mentioned Command in here too... Yes. Command can be armed with what can be called NT Mk58 signal pistols, which would default-ly start with .45 flash. This would give the effect of a "signal" if you were to be harmed by something or someone. Honestly, the name is just odd. Command members would start with one. Spriting I would contact OliverCarswell, as his server has the guns I'm referring to.* The sprites look similar to a Glock format mixed with M1911 aspects. However it is sprited is up to the Management and Coding team, however. *NOTE: I did not suggest this article because I want this server to have the guns as well (purely). I believe the IC benefits would be great and the odds for the crew to actually have a proper armament would be increased.

Guest Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 I think it's all good, tbh. You can bump that thread and say you're still interested in its implementation.
Carver Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 It should probably be noted Flash rounds are completely worthless in any sort of combat or self-defense scenario, so if you decide to suggest the non-lethal route, rubbers are the way to go.
Lady_of_Ravens Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 As someone who has never once played security or fired a weapon outside of R&D... what's so great about projectiles? I've been seeing this suggested in one form or another several times in the year or so I've been playing and I still don't get what the appeal is. Are projectile weapons that much better than energy ones?
Zidanyia Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 As someone who has never once played security or fired a weapon outside of R&D... what's so great about projectiles? I've been seeing this suggested in one form or another several times in the year or so I've been playing and I still don't get what the appeal is. Are projectile weapons that much better than energy ones? It's my personal preference, but. Ballistics are typically automatic or have negligible firedelay. Though ballistics are rare as energy weaponry is favored, ballistics generally have high damage output over lasers. Ballistics at the moment are cheap, easy to use and simple enough to master. Although their lack of precision and flexibility in long range environments leaves a lot to be desired, their impact is huge due to the severity of broken limbs. With lethal ammunition, ballistics are excellent for killing someone very quickly. Although the weapons themselves are difficult to acquire, ammunition is always in bountiful supply via a lathe. Only problem is, reloading takes a little while and running out means you're screwed entirely. I dunno, I guess people prefer diversity. Others will prefer lasers for their flexibility in scenarios with windows and their 2x paincrit modifier thanks to burn damage.
