Recommended Posts

BYOND Key: RussianArmsDealer

Character Names: Katyusha Andreyav, Alyssa Lee

Species you are applying to play: IPC

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): N/A

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race: I believe that this race would be good development for characters I create, as it adds diversity to the crew and allows me to express myself creatively different each shift. This is an important factor for me as I greatly enjoy the freedom to have various jobs available for a singular character, but that character not being a Mary sue, nor some god-tier character. (Is there a difference?) The fact that IPCs can be various personalities, from a shard, to a fabricated posibrain with extremely limited emotion and "Quirks", allows me to role-play varying characters depending on the station or my current mood. Again allowing more role-play flexibility. My focus on this is a "Heavy Cyborg" IPC.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: As stated beforehand. IPCs have a differing view and psyche. Ranging from AIs that only complete menial tasks like a basic "Tool robot" to ones that have a full personality, friendships, likes, and dislikes. This allows greater adaptability to someone's role-play if they are whitelisted. And allows greater freedom when creating a character. One of the most interesting parts is the fact that they could be outfitted with data for varying jobs each shift, allowing them to fill various roles when needed, without it being completely unfair, as they would be untrained in other areas than the one focused for that shift. Other differences include the fact they can be re-wired, re-lawed, Their arms can break and have to be welded to be repaired, and their brain can be salvaged and placed inside a new shell or frame.

Character Name: Sonya Amir

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs: Sonya Amir was a budding space enthusiast. She focused all her studies on spacefaring, hoping to finally leave the pathetic slum of her home, Luna. She worked pretty much daily. She was either saving the funds her father's inheritance handed her, working at the local bar, or spending the money for crash courses to hopefully accomplish her dreams. She visited the more technological areas of Luna for her courses. And was subject to taunts, bullying, and harassment for her slum upbringing. But this did not bring her down. Her escapades soon fell onto ears of Hephaestus Industries, a local recruitment center found her for her efforts and offered her an apprenticeship with the Industrial divison aboard a large cargo vessel if she completed her courses on engineering and maintenance. They also supplied her with some money; a small amount. But enough for her to feel safer with her educational situation. From then on she worked. Worked hard. Desperate to prove that she can do it. Anyone can escape slums, or poverty, or depression. After the long trials and tribulations of this journey, she managed to succeed. She got the apprenticeship aboard the HCV (Hephaestus Cargo Vessel) Nile. From then on she worked hard on the ship when she finally left port. Beginning her journey as an engineer.

She continued this job for three years, until she was of age 27. Where she was offered a position as a full-time engineer on one of Hephaestus' shared mega-structures orbiting Earth and Sol. So big that they literally "Dwarf cities", and produce countless items and machines. She turned it down. Life near Sol wasn't for her. She needed something more. Adventure. Challenge. Something to make her feel like she could work towards it. As she contemplated her next step on Luna, she found an advertisement for an open Engineering job on-board the NCV Archimedes. She jumped at the opportunity. Filing her request form to the recruitment services with her Background and record. Now all she had to do was wait. A few days past, and she waited patiently, drinking glorious space cola and nibbling on various unhealthy snacks before she got the confirmation. Overjoyed, she set off to City she was residing in's space port. And took a trip to the NSS Baldr. The adventure she has been waiting for has finally came.

What do you like about this character? She's resilient. She had to deal with short-comings and problems but kept going. Focusing on her dream. And in the end, it paid off.

How would you rate your role-playing ability? Ehhhhh. I honestly don't know. 6?

Notes: I'm 18 and female, metallic persimmons 8-)

Well, can you tell us about an IPC that you'd play as?

Of course. The IPC I'm planning to play as is a Heavy Cyborg who decided to opt in voluntarily for Cyborgization, without any proper injuries or life threatening conditions. She decided this because of her stress and depression over being "Organic" And after many weeks of thought. Decided to go for this. I would be role-playing them getting to grips with their permanent life choice and contemplating if it was fully worth it, or not. They will in all likelihood be comfortable with their choice, although of the massive impacts it has on their life.

IPCs are basically protocol droids with TVs for heads. We had a recent update where they can become "shells" in which they can have synthetic skin, fur, or scales.

The last time we had a human-cyborg, more emphasis on 'human', they went ridiculously far and ended up losing their whitelist.

IPCs are entirely positronic, if I understand correctly. We had another issue earlier with some IPC wanting to be converted to a full Tajaran, apparently?

So, basically, how it works is that there's two paths from being put into an MMI.

You're either put into an enslaved cyborg, or you're put into an Integrated Positronic Chassis, which offers more freedom except that your body sans brain is entirely mechanical. Think of it like Fallout 4-tier sort of synthetic.

I heard that MMIs were used, but it seems that is incorrect. My character would opt in to become an Integrated Positronic Chassis. Though this action would be irreversible.

The previous thing I heard was that a Man-Machine Interface could be used instead of a Posibrain. But if that is incorrect, then thank you for the info.

Edit: After re-reading the lore on IPCs they can be Cyborgs - Specifically ones which house the "Seat of Consciousness", or, for my character's case, the brain. Here is the lore quote:

Special Note: For the purposes of this taxonomy, ‘cyborg’ refers to a total replacement cyborg, or ‘heavy’ cyborg, where the entire body save for the seat of consciousness (typically the brain) is replaced with artificial components.

This seems to show that the entire body is replaced with artificial components, besides the brain. Which in this case would most likely be put into an MMI (Man-Machine Interface)

1138 is wrong, it is entirely possible to put an organic brain in a synthetic body. The situation he was talking about was someone trying to go the other way, to put a robotic brain in an organic body. That, we decided, was probably one step to far, a push into transhumanist territories that Jackboot didn't want to go into.

I like the idea for your IPC character, and your human character tells me you know what you're up too. You also have the code phrase already so I'll mark this as approved.
