Chen Yakumo Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 BYOND Key: Chen Yakumo Character Names: Sina (pAI), Talus (Android), The Quiet Wind On A Midsummer Night (Diona Nymph), Brielle Demuth (Security Cadet), Chip Dawkins (Cargo Tech), Kellie Pratt (Engineering Apprentice). Species you are applying to play: Dionae What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): I'm thinking of going for root-themed colors. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes indeedy! Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I was attracted to their lore and their unique physiology. A lot of races have held my attention here and there, and on other private servers I've fiddled with just about all of them. But Dionaea are just so foreign and unique compared to everyone else. No other species has that down-to-earth feel that you can get with a Dionaea. No other species is composed of several smaller creatures forming one coherent mass. I've always liked the look and feel of the Dionaea. They're thoughtful, and slow to react, similar to how I am in real life. It would mesh with my playstyle very well, as I do not tend to rush through the motions. I enjoy taking time to think about my responses, speaking slowly and thoughtfully. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Well, as I've said above, they're a rather unique species. First off, while omnivorous, they tend to subsist off of light-based energy, much like plants. Without light, they wither and die, though they are extremely resistant to atmosphere changes, being able to survive in a vacuum just fine so long as they have a light source. A dionaea is actually comprised of multiple dionae, nymphs that form a cohesive unit. The Dionaea are generally slow to react, but very intelligent beings. They are rumored to be brought into existence ever since The Void, and due to being scattered far and wide, there are many differences between many dionaea 'sub-species', primarily in attitude and behavior, as well as specialties in various tasks. Character Name: The Quiet Wind On A Midsummer Night Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs The Quiet Wind On A Midsummer Night, taken from a gestalt far from the NSS Aurora as but a seed, had found their way into a packet. Trapped, unknowingly, in the crushing darkness, moving from place to place, system to system. It wasn't until the MegaSeed Servitor aboard the NSS Aurora was restocked that the unborn diona had a chance. A fateful day, when the botanist noticed the seeds in the vending machine and planted them. In what seemed like no time at all, the hydroponics bay was flooded with nymphs, nymphs that, for the most part, did not make it. The Quiet Wind On A Midsummer Night was the only one to survive. They looked about, trying to figure out where they were, and upon noticing the human, quickly lashed out a feeler to take a blood sample. Memories flooded the young diona, and it quickly learned the basic languages of the station. The Quiet Wind On A Midsummer Night, having attained a taste for knowledge, set out into the station, lashing out with their feeler after finding their way into the medical bay. The doctor jumped slightly, and only then did the diona realize that it was causing pain to others. They thought about this for a while, and slowly spoke up. "Sor...ry...?" The Diona gathered as much knowledge from the crew as it could, making sure to take a sample from at least one person in every department, gathering a feel for the station as a whole. As The Quiet Wind On A Midsummer Night learned from the crew, so to did memories from the gestalt return. When the diona felt they had gathered enough knowledge, it asked the friendly botanist to try one more time. They aided them, helping grow the nymphs, attempting to make as smooth a transition as possible. Once the dionae were properly brought about, The Quiet Wind On A Midsummer Night imparted upon them it's knowledge, before forming into the Dionaea that now serves aboard the NSS Aurora. What do you like about this character? I really like that I got to play out my inception as a nymph, which is what the above story is just a retelling of with minor modifications due to no longer having the logs of that round and also no other players to actually merge into a gestalt with. I enjoyed that I was able to learn from the crew around me, taking on their languages and fragments of their memories, learning about everything and thinking so deeply on everything. I like that, with this character, I can give everything purpose with enough enough time to think on it. I really enjoy playing the slow, thought out characters, and being a character designed around having a vast amount of intellect and a contrasting slower reaction time is really exciting for me. With humans, it's more or less "Oh hey Bob, how's it going?" "Ah not bad, how about you, Jill?" But with The Quiet Wind On A Midsummer Night, it can go more along the lines of "How are you, Quiet Wind?" "Ahhh...we are well, this day, Bob. The gentle breeze of the atmospherics in the station creates...such beautiful music for our ears. It reminds us of the solar wind that carried us...towards this sector." Pausing every so often to get in that slowed down, mellow feeling. It really sounds like a lot of fun to me. I hope I can prove that it will be soon. How would you rate your role-playing ability? It's got it's ups and downs. Usually my role-playing capability is usually comparable with those around me, though I do have my off days. On average though, I'd say I'm pretty good. Beatin' par for the course, at least. Usually. Notes: I've been up for about 38-40 hours. I'm going to bed soon. Please be kind to typos, I think it should all run smoothly enough.
ChevalierMalFet Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 I saw you do some Dionas and I think you did a good job. I would support your continuation. +1.
Killerhurtz Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 I like this. As per protocol, I'll leave this open for two days - feel free to advertise in OOC about your sheet. And as a side note, just to make sure you read OUR diona lore: What's the largest confirmed type of gestalt?

And as a side note, just to make sure you read OUR diona lore: What's the largest confirmed type of gestalt? Sorry, just got home from work. That'd be the satellite gestalt. There's only one size larger, and it's pure speculation. That's the singularity gestalt. Unless this is a trick question, in which case our lovely 'Dead Planet' as the Skrell have affectionately dubbed it. I'm still really tired, lol...

Sorry for the double post, but I don't want someone thinking I ninja edited my answer. After another brief reading, I didn't see anything on the size of the dead planet. So I'll just chalk that up to being exhausted, but still.
Guest Complete Garbage Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 I've never seen you as a nymph before, but your app shows you know the Dionea lore quite well. +1
Killerhurtz Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Oh dear it's been a while. Sorry about that - approved, enjoy your Dionaea!
