Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 The Republic of Biesel has entered its 6th year of existence this month. The Constitution demands elections every 5 years, and this would be the 2nd of the nation's history, the 1st year having had a smaller, transitional government. This election is the first time the ruling party has to face the prospect of reelection. Tau Ceti Republicans | Social Democrats | Coalition of Minority Parties Since the 1st elections of 2455, the Tau Ceti Republicans have retained a firm grasp on the reigns of power. Out of 380 seats, they hold 201, giving them a 52% majority and considerable influence. The President is Joseph Dorn, whom was sworn into office on 2455 as a Tau Ceti Republican. Out of all of the seats, 9 are Unathi, 18 are Skrell and 4 are Tajaran. The Tau Ceti Republican Party's 5 years of rule have had a consistent manifesto: Keep Tau Ceti independent. Maintain the Free Trade Zone. Allow Nanotrasen to keep its monopoly on plasma mining and refining. Not taxing Nanotrasen's use of bluespace gates or drives. Other realities under the Republican's rule have been: Confidential lobbying for candidates; you don't know who finances politicians. Nanotrasen eliminating and replacing nearly all small business on Tau Ceti, including all mass-transit. A Nanotrasen-subsidized media, with news anchors usually being Nanotrasen employed journalists. The Mendell Bugle remains one of the last non-Nanotrasen native news outlet for most of Tau Ceti. The Biesel military remains gutted and minimally funded, with most Tau Ceti areas relying on Nanotrasen's Emergency Response Team, with the government footing the expensive bill of ERT deployment. A refusal to create minimum wages or immigration quotas for Tajaran or Vaurca, seeing the two races slowly replace humans in almost every industry. The Republican mandate for 2458 - 2463 remains similar to their first election, but this time it has taken stances suspiciously similar to Nanotrasen's desires for the system... The implementation and expansion of the Loyalty Pledge to all Unathi, not just those in command positions. Those that refuse would face monthly fines in addition to being barred from governmental positions and Command positions. The creation of a free-movement treaty with Ahdomai, allowing Nanotrasen to hire hundreds of new laborers for an expansion of its mining operations in the Romanovich Cloud, including the construction of a new, state of the art facility on one of the larger asteroids. Their presidential candidate is, of course, current Tau Ceti President Joseph Dorn. Born to an upper middle class family, he has previously worked for Nanotrasen as an internal affairs agent before entering a career in politics. The former mayor of Mendell City, he is keenly aware of the political and cultural pulse of the city he was born in. The Social Democrats are the staunch rivals to the Republicans. While their party often condemns the unheard of influence Nanotrasen has in Tau Ceti, their party is divided in how to act on this mistrust. Almost all but the most radical Democrats realize that Nanotrasen can never truly go away. Some in their party also feel that splitting from the Sol Alliance was a mistake, and that the best way to ensure the success and safety of Tau Ceti would be to see the flag of Sol once more flying over Biesel... Their pledges on the path of Tau Ceti if they win the 2458 election include: Weakening the power of Nanotrasen, potentially breaking up its monopoly into several smaller companies in Tau Ceti. The end of the Free Trade Zone, allowing other corporations to compete with Nanotrasen in the system. A minimum wage for Tajaran and Vaurca citizens, making them just equally expensive as humans to hire and train, leveling the playing field. Closer ties to the Sol Alliance. Taxes on bluespace gate usage, bringing in a potential gold mine of new revenue for the government that Nanotrasen enjoys tax free. Reform of election laws to be more transparent and open. Consistent, firm control of synthetics. Revitalization of the Tau Ceti navy, allowing the Republic to defend itself and no longer rely on Nanotrasen security. Their presidential candidate for 2458 is Aamina Al-Harthi.The only child of a mining family from New Gibson, Aamina struggled for much of her early adulthood to pay for a university-level education until finally receiving a scholarship from a NGO funded by the Sol-Alliance based Worker's Party. A more left-leaning candidate than the current President she wishes to dethrone, she nevertheless faces popularity with the growing number of unemployed humans. . . With the "Visitor" mechanic, players that want to play as "recruiters" are encouraged to do so. You can board the station as a recruiter (NOT a Congressman) from one of the two major parties, or one of the many minority parties in the purple. There were many submissions to the original thread application thread, and I couldn't figure out how to fit them all in without creating information overload or keeping the theme of a sharply divided Congress. The elections will take place at the end of February (2 weeks from now from posting!) and run for a week. Until then, we will be setting the stage! Many more narratives will be foreshadowing this election, and who you vote for now may change once events begin to unfold, testing the ideals of democracy and the very foundation of this young Republic. . . I forgot that people can't post in the galaxy news subforum, so I've created this thread to give us a place to discuss the Tau Ceti elections. If you have no idea what that is, go here. http://aurorastation.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=95&t=5158 This thread is semi-kinda-IC, mostly OOC. I just wanted this in a lore-area so I have moderation perms! Quote
Rusty Shackleford Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 How does the issue of gun control stand on Biesel, is it space Europe or space America? Is there an equivalent to the 2nd amendment? Quote
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 How does the issue of gun control stand on Biesel, is it space Europe or space America? Is there an equivalent to the 2nd amendment? Weapons are regulated, similar to the station - you shouldn't be walking around with a weapon without some kind of a permit. That said, you can feasibly keep a collection or a weapon if you can imagine a way to bend the law. Or just keep it illegally. The highest tier of things you can legally own are pretty much laser pistols, flashes, and pepperspray. Anything more than that you can still own, but it has to be damaged or modified in a way that it cant be used. For example, dulling an energy axe and permanently damaging the battery slot. Whether you try to fix the damage after that is just a matter of being caught or not. Basically, if you're a normal law-abiding citizen you could probably never see anything more than the cop's pistols or your neighbor's pepperspray, and all of it is tagged. Quote
Guest Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Eh, what happened to the other thread with several political factions throwing in their hat? Did it suddenly only boil down to just three? I find it kinda hard to believe too that a system-wide equivalent of Congress only has close to 400 seats as well. I would like to put Karl Jhoonda back into the running as one of the leading proponents of the minority parties. I feel like expansionist interests should be considered pretty important for the Biesellian Republic as an independent state to even survive. Quote
Rusty Shackleford Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Sounds like space europe jesus christ how fucking horrifying What about Earth though? Quote

(If you're a minor party just say you hold 0 - 5 seats in the purple. No one is going to keep track or really care if the seating is inconsistent with all the different minority parties, I promise. The focus isn't on semantics here. ) There were many submissions to the original thread application thread, and I couldn't figure out how to fit them all in without creating information overload or keeping the theme of a sharply divided Congress. All of the parties submitted are minor parties in the very, very, very loose coalition. Quote
LordFowl Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Is the coalition just pooling together for one president? Quote

Guest Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 For anyone interested, I made a Tau Ceti Republican pamphlet for TCRP recruiters, http://piratepad.net/F4MQsZ4j2q (link to the BBCode) It is so large, that is must be made into paper-bundles, copy all the way down until right before the small tag right about what we plan to accomplish, this will be the first page, copy paste the rest onto another page, stick that page on the first one, label TCRP flyer/pamphlet or whathave you, mass produce by photocopying the bundle and distributing. What it looks like ICly. Tau Ceti Republican Party Our Presidential Candidate: A Legend Our candidate for the presidency this election is of course, our current President, President Joseph Dorn. Prior to entering the world of politics, he served as an Internal Affairs Agent in NanoTrasen, learning the ins and outs of business management, he then retired and began his journey into his passion, politics. Soon, he was elected Mayor of Mendell City, having grown up there, and having led it until his election into the presidency, President Dorn has an excellent personal investment in the citizenry of Tau Ceti and it's largest city, Mendell. What We've Accomplished Thus-far The Tau Ceti Republican Party (TCRP) has led the Republic of Biesel and Tau Ceti into greatness. Under their government, Tau Ceti seperated from the slowly crumbling, and economically failing Sol Alliance, and declared rightful independence. The TCRP has not only seperated the Republic from the vestigal empire that is the Sol Alliance, but under President Joseph Dorn's leadership, it has made Tau Ceti into an economic powerhouse, even beating the Eridani Corporate Federation in terms of national GDP! This was all made possible by the establishment of the Tau Ceti Free Trade Zone in 2452, an agreement that was made, and passed by a TCRP-majority congress, after extensive and thorough discussions between President Dorn and his cabinet, and Chief Executive Officer of NanoTrasen, Miranda Trasen, and her Board of Directors. After the establishment bill was passed by congress, Tau Ceti not only became a free and independent solar nation, but a splurge of wealth kickstarted a stalling economy, that failed under the mismanaged democratic government prior to the TCRP takeover. With the assistance and expansion of NanoTrasen Corporate Conglomerate's operations in the Tau Ceti system, the TCRP not only provided millions of jobs to Biselittes and Gibsonian's, but made Tau Ceti the center of operations for the largest economic powerhouse in existence. We have also kept military spending low, with the aid of NanoTrasen Fleet Security, we have kept the Republic Navy small, and extremely organized, another benefit of this venture is that it allows us to put the funds in which we would usually spend on defense, into other things, such as the Bluespace Gateways that so many of us use for mass-transit between systems, transit prices are at an all time low, only costing 100Cr for a one way trip across the universe! And all of this was accomplished without having to cut any jobs from the work sector! What We Plan to Accomplish Upon Re-election Upon re-election, which we in the TCRP know we will attain for our loyal service and dedication to the system, we have three major policy plans we will enact as soon as possible: The implementation and expansion of the Loyalty Pledge to all Unathi. Ever since the disgusting attack on NanoTrasen in Uueoa-Esa by the Izweki Nation, even stations in the Romanovich Cloud of Tau Ceti have suffered Unathi Raider attacks. It has become too risky to trust our once loyal friends, in such secure government and corporate roles without ensuring some kind of loyalty to the government of Tau Ceti. The creation of a free-movement treaty with Ahdomai, allowing Nanotrasen to hire hundreds of new laborers for an expansion of its mining operations in the Romanovich Cloud, including the construction of a new, state of the art facility on one of the larger asteroids. Once construction is over, so many new job opportunities will open up for the citizens of Tau Ceti! Halting the attempts of the Social Democrats to establish a minimum wage of Tajaran and Vaurcae workers, this would cause undue hardship upon corporations within Tau Ceti, and would surely see our economy falter, especially with the influx of Vaurcae workers. Concluding Statement If you support: The independence of the Republic of Biesel and Tau Ceti from the Sol Alliance, The growth and stability of our economy, Low transit costs, NanoTrasen, and the millions of jobs it provides Cetians. Then please, vote for the Tau Ceti Republican Party, and our presidential candidate, President Joseph Dorn in the upcoming election. *This pamphlet has been authorized for distribution by an authorized agent of the Tau Ceti Republican Party, and may be distributed aboard NanoTrasen stations by registered campaign officers.
