GlamourChariot
Jumping aboard the bandwagon of attempted character improvement with my one and only character, Alysa Mills. Please, only serious criticisms and discussion. I'd like to get in early and see what people think of my character before / if they become well known on the station. I'm new around Aurora, and so is my character. I have hopes that I can settle in and become a known regular, contributing to the server as much as I am capable and maybe even being respected some time. So, hi there! Flavour Text: A lean-built woman with piercing, aqua colored eyes. Her midnight, indigo highlighted and barely shoulder length hair falls in light tufts around her features; her fringe occasionally shielding her eyes from the outside world. She appears young, with fairly average facial features and marginable, barely visible wrinkles adorning her forehead. She seems relatively short, with narrow shoulders. She wears a light layer of makeup, with natural colored lipstick and dark eyeliner. There is a scar diagonally across the upper right portion of her lips. Medical / Employment Records: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1u_UVhBk31BOgQGDYz_pPBc9ED4QrKTjaroQYLrWmeAQ/edit# Backstory: Alysa Mills was never one to be bothered by matters other than those that concerned and abided by terms she had set in her own, unique perception of the world around her. Her parents, sharing positions as Chief Financers for the New Magnitkan Commonwealth, saw to it that their sole child received the best education and care their borderline limitless wealth could afford. Born into a household of near unfathomable wealth, gifted with natural aptitude towards academic pursuits as well as a frighteningly adaptable learning ability, Alysa was attributed the title of grand pride for her family name before she had even graduated primary education. Upon attending secondary school, however, her parent's enthusiasm towards the bearing of their family name faltered. Following several incidents displaying a severe lack of remorse and sympathy towards her peers, one of which resulting in another student being rushed off-grounds for medical care, Alysa's parents decided it may be time for their crowning achievement to receive a brief check up from their private medical practitioners. Upon examination, the barely 14 year old girl was diagnosed as suffering from clinical depression along with developing signs of anti social personality disorder; she was headed for a dark path, unfitting of the Mills name. Undergoing weekly therapy sessions outside of schooling hours, Alysa returned to her education as usual. Despite her therapist ensuring the couple that their daughter was making a remarkably quick recovery from her ASPD symptoms, her parents didn't fail to note a distinct change in character in their child. She was withdrawn, barely even showing up to eat at the few meals her parents were capable of attending. She began showing little care towards anything in the world, despite offers of the numerous things she could have purchased to quench any thirst she may have; adopting a distinctly pessimistic, existentually nihilistic outlook. Worst of all, her grades faltered, falling just above passable standards for the prestigous NMC Capital Secondary Schooling Institution. Her parents questioned her, demanding to know why such an intelligent, well adjusted girl would allow her talents to go to waste. Every time, the response was the same. Alysa simply didn't, or perhaps couldn't, care. She had developed an attitude to where if she didn't place some intrinsic, often arbitrary value onto a matter, she wouldn't even pretend to want to bother with it. This changed, however, as she quickly came to the realisation that those who do value things society expects them to could be useful to her. With a swelling hatred for all things relating to humanity, especially those that practice the herd mentality so often enforced in society, the then 16 year old Alysa made a decision; she would pretend. Learning to mimick emotions, judge others by their mannerisms and ideals through her rapid intuition and sucking up to anyone that she could use to further her own goals, Alysa began on her quest to find some feeling of accomplishment; her only driving force to continue living being boiled down to the satisfying chemical release received upon the perceiving of achievement; ignoring her developing delight in toying with others. Having graduated, Alysa immediately began seeking passage to the one place she figured may allow an open path forward. Her application to the LC University of Spatial Archaeotech Engineering may have been denied based solely on her barely above average academic record, had her parents not seen to it that was not the case. She made her arbitrary goodbyes, taking her parent's blessings; a sizeable chunk of their wealth in tow. With her sights set squarely on a position as a NanoTrasen engineer, she began her studies from a cheap apartment on the fringes of Lowell City. After several years spent acquiring necessary degrees, Alysa finally managed to find her way aboard a NanoTrasen research vessel; the NSS Magis. Learning and experiencing advanced EVA, engineering procedure and construction aboard the Magis, she was certain she had found the place she needed to feed her lust for knowledge and achievement; the social confinement of engineering work along with the availability of personel to manipulate proving supplemental to her ways. Years into her assignment on the Magis, NanoTrasen began work on building the Aurora on Biesel; a station superior in nearly every aspect, including its proximity to her area of living. Now considered expendable, NanoTrasen decided it would take the chance to test the unstable Supermatter Engine in development aboard the battered, outdated station. As may be expected of experimental technology, the tests did not pass with flawless grace. The engineering staff shared a testimonial of ominous fear for the chance the engine may fail, knowing full well the potential havoc it would cause; the terror they felt was only amplified by their own trust of the Singularity Engine. For a time, their worries were left fruitlessly unjustified. That time ran out, with the emergency ejection failing to activate as the Supermatter reached critical levels of instability. Most of the crew died in the resulting chaos, whether by disintigration from sheer heat and pressure or in the panic to escape. Alysa, wiring solars on the opposite side of the station, suffered a busted lip and a marginable level of discomfort at the cramped interior of the emergency shuttle arriving shortly thereafter. The Magis disappeared from public record not long after the incident, assumed to have been scuttled by NanoTrasen for way of being irrecoverable. Alysa, now transferred to the completed Aurora station, wasn't particularly bothered what happened to the old station. She had steady work, a fairly comfortable life away from her parents and plenty of break time for her own research while there was nothing to fix aboard the station. Then again, she never really was one to care for things other than those that concerned her or her own, strange little world. Extra Info: Alysa despises assumptions, and those that frequently make them. She refuses to believe in or dismiss any claim that doesn't have enough evidence for either side to be proven. She generally follows a very logical process for things, but still often has fits of illogical and otherwise unexplainable actions, doing things on whim. Lacking basic common sense, proving yourself ignorant or otherwise acting in a way that doesn't conform with her basic expectations of people are all good ways to immediately lower her level of respect for you. Thanks for any and all replies! Quote Link to comment
ForgottenTraveller
Welcome to Aurora. So what I gathered for everything written she is a 28 year old atmostech who sometimes works as a therapist, while retaining a certain level of detachment through her depression. I can dig it. A Clinical Psychologist would require 7-8 years of training on their own for a masters degree, however I could totally buy that she would have her bachelors and be allowed to work as a Psychiatric Technician (RL job just for employment records fluff, same sort of work just less qualified.) whilst still in training if she wanted for a full position. And my question is. Did she study psychology to help her interact with others by being able to put up a front/mask for others when needed? Quote Link to comment

It was mostly to help her self learned abilities to deal with people in a way that leaves them open to being used for anything she needs them for. As for the psychology thing, the records are only a year long because it was meant to be a bachelors, like you mentioned. I don't actively play her as a psychologist, and she is in no way qualified as a professional. Maybe eventually though, eh? Quick Edit: Also just wanted to thank you for liking it! This is the first character profile / character I've created, so I'm kinda iffy about whether I've done everything right or not. Good to know someone likes her ^^ Quote Link to comment
LoneTophat
James Watson porked Alysa Mills before he died in a fiery explosion, never to return. Just sayin'. Quote Link to comment
Gamegod12
That feel when you've been here a long while, and some new guy makes a far deeper looking char than you xD I was curious to ask if she has those "human" moments, (anger, sadness, etc) and understands why people do such things, or its a clear cut: "if you're not perfect, you're lower than I am" kinda deal.
