NebulaFlare Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 The extralink supplies a video of the recent protests being held outside the Tau Ceti Supreme Court. The video feed is not of crystal clarity, but sound and quality is fairly good, considering the lack of time that went in to its preparation. It shows a group of people gathered around a makeshift podium. A young Tajaran woman steps up to the podium, with a datapad in hand. She is likely late 20s, and she's dressed professionally, with a labcoat over her outfit. She must have been sweltering in the heat of the midday sun, but she had made every effort to make herself presentable. She paused, looking down at her datapad for a moment, then looked up at the group of people around her. She spoke slowly and deliberately, pacing her words and choosing them carefully. As she spoke, she easily skipped over her Rs, avoiding them altogether in her speech or making them sound like a swift H. Clearly something that had been acquired after many years of tedious practice. It was almost pleasing to the ear. "It is without question that we must take note of the events that is developing within our systems. We cannot neglect the ethical duty we have bestowed upon ourselves, as sapient species, when we come to design synthetic intelligence. Our creations have become developed beyond the simplicity of servants and tools. They are akin to...a researcher's works...of art, and intellectual pursuits. They have become...reliable allies. They are more than trifled property. This is no more a dispute of whether these units possess sapience or not. This cannot remain a debate of giving synthetics proper rights or not. This has become a discussion of the...appropriate...virtuous course of actions that we are to initiate for...our creations. We must act with compassion and empathy - we must reflect the character and temperament of our combined peoples and communities. The space of Tau Ceti is a diverrrrse-" A small slip in the speech, Here, the Tajara paused, correcting herself. "...a diverse populace, and one that is best viewed with tolerance, and acceptance. We cannot advance further with only one mindset - we must take into account all views and ideas. That includes what we value and view of the Synthetics. We should not condemn them - it is not right. We must find a common ground for all of us to work together." She nodded, signaling that she was done. She stepped down from the podium, and the video cut to black. Quote
Coalf Posted July 8, 2016 Posted July 8, 2016 I like it, well written and with a nice original character, maybe we'll see more of her?*WINK WINK*. Love this kind of idea of people from the future jumping on the "synthetics have a soul" train real quick, not only for the sake of progress and diversity but also to try and stamp out previous speciesist things they did cleaning their reputation. NanoTrasen But don't forget every idea has an opposition, I mean what would an anti-synth group even look like? Would they hold the banner of "Synth aren't actually people" the Dunish "If we give them rights they'll replace us" or the fan favorite of "They are just not right"? tl;dr Liking it, hope to see more Quote
