Guest Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 Allow me to school you kids on why SoundScopes had a policy a long time ago about a sort of thread type relating to users wanting removing/nerfing of a mechanic on the basis that they did not like or enjoy the mechanic rather than identifying what was logically problematic, a critical game flaw, something influencing the outcome of actions in a way that does not benefit fluid gameplay, and so on. Read carefully and please comprehend. The nature of SS13 is heavily story-based, narrative-driven, and unforeseen consequences of actions undertaken with incomplete information are legitimate plot elements, or the game offers some way of mitigating or eliminating those consequences. This effectively means that most, if not all, game mechanics are justified to exist in-game and complaining about them existing without explaining what makes them potentially arbitrary or negative to gameplay makes you a salt-lord unable to cope with game mechanics. In addition, there is literally a counter to every scenario, and not every playstyle is meant to work with 100% efficiency for all scenarios. The same gimmick will normally not work to the same level of effectiveness twice in a row due to the randomness of round-by-round gameplay sequences. Asking for these features to be removed because they personally bother or hinder you makes you nothing more than just another complainer. You're not the first to complain about decompression. You are also not the first to ask it to be toned down for easier gameplay for you. Or as many will say in order to mount up on the saddle of the high horse, for the greater good! Yeah, no, that is not flying. The community's smart enough to ignore that. Public opinion does not sway development on the basis of it being "public opinion". Getting everyone and your mom to cry on the forums for change will not automatically beget that change. Only time democracy has been an option is when the developers in particular wish to lay it out as an option to gauge public opinion and capitalize on it to further advance the integrity of the community. This system works, trying to undermine it doesn't really work because it was designed to work better than your flimsy two-sentence post about how you hate how simple that simple mobs are. Trust me, we all hate them. Technology's not really present for it yet. So before you click submit after drawing up another paragraph about how you wish game mechanics didn't exist, rethink your post, maybe even throw in decent substitutes or improvements on existing formulas so that you don't annoy actual developers who believe existing game mechanics are fine the way they are and don't wish to do over multiple systems over from scratch because you raised a personal vendetta against a feature (or even a bug) in a video game. Zundy Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 I totally agree and would add that when discussing the removal/nerfing of a mechanic that you keep your ideas and opinions relevant to the topic at hand and avoid going off topic or appealing to absolute real life standards considering this is a video game about blue-space travelling corporate astronauts fighting space fish and various other mythical beasts using lasers and various spess-magic medicines. Guest Posted September 12, 2016 Posted September 12, 2016 appealing to absolute real life standards This one's a bit of a tricky subject, so I'll just offer a simple answer to that: Preservation of atmosphere. Game's not interesting if you want to take away things that make the game more special and in-depth, which in turn reels you in and allows you to become invested in the round and in your own character's survival in the round. Taking it away would make your own survival meaningless and a trivial thing when you tell stories about what happened in the round. Quote
