Elohi Adanvdo
[REDACTED] So, apparently I need to work this over more. I know the lore, but I need to work it in more with the background. I'll be back with round 2. Edited October 25, 2016 by Guest Link to comment
Muncorn
So, I know very little about Vaucra lore, but from what I can gather from reasing through all this, there's a few problems from the getgo. Firstoff, the main point of a whitelist isn't to show that you know how to RP, or make a good character, it's to show that you know the lore of the species well enough. From what I've seen here, you've done what I presume is the equivalent of doing a Tajaran character that was raised by humans; it does not show anything of the lore of the species, and shows no evidence that you know anything about it. The character itself; though I find getting a whitelist purely for a joke character a little silly; is fine, but not the type of character you want to put on an app. For an application (This is advice for anybody, not just Elohi) you want to create a bland, easy to believe character, that fits into the lore of the species properly and gives you room to show your knowledge. Secondly, and I may be wrong on this point, it seems as though you don't know much on Vaucra lore. I am presuming that as a hive, even though there are different tiers or workers I would think that none are frowned upon, as such. Every worker plays an integral role in the hive, none should be shunned. This is true for ants, bees, and I would presume the same for Vaucra. You state yourself the opposite of this, in that low level workers are socially shunned in ways the fighting and higher class Vaucra are not, and this seems like a misunderstanding of the lore. If I am wrong on this, feel free to correct me, but otherwise, some reading up on the lore is necessary as a general point, and to be able to fix the first point I made. Thirdly, on the topic of the character and your reasoning for this app. You may want to rethink it, especially with the name. If any staff member sees a Miner Vaucra come on with the name Deeg, we're going to PM you about it and in all likelihoods get it fixed, since it's clearly designed as a joke character, which you yourself have said. So all in all, I'm not going to +1 this. The character is a meme, and a clear lack of understanding of the lore is there, or you've simply failed to express what understanding you have. LordFowl
BYOND Key:Elohi Adanvdo (elohiadanvdo)Character Names: Ashley Long, Rassvet Zver', Svhiyeyi Sidanelv, Oquoqua'Dali Walosh-Gadoki. Species you are applying to play: Vaurca What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): DIRT Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Ant people are gud. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Probably because this is going to be my joke character. He's an ant. His name is Deeg. It's what he does. He's an ant that digs. 24/7. In all seriousness, he's going to be more of a relaxed RP character, more focused on the job and enjoying the isolation of space. I also like the idea of the hivemind. He'll also be added to my collection of species that I have. I love the fact that just like the leafcutter ants, they farm and survive off a species of fungus that they cultivate, and their social system that is unique to higher-sentience species, also highly ant-like. He's also going to be the first 'seriously' disabled character that I'm going to play, making my RP (if any) more unique compared to my other characters. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: They're... Ant-people...??? They don't really need exo-suits. They also have a (obviously) insect-like society where the vast majority of his people are slaved into labor for the 'nobles'. The Queens are in charge of pretty much everything, and are treated like Gods. Their diet is also highly restricted. Also ZVEECH IMVEDIMENTZ. Being nude is not a big deal to them, and it's a lot less of an embarassment than other species, if not null. Character Name: Ka'Akaix Deeg K'lax Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Deeg was born a 'free' Vaurca, and when not enjoying his off-time, he would tirelessly work with metals, minerals, and anything else with a geological nature. The materials he collected fascinated him, especially the precious ores. They absolutely dazzle him, the shape and composition leaving him in awe how something that looks like it was made by programming and high-end graphics was made naturally. Both his job and hobby, his mission is to unravel the secrets of the earth, and to uncover every last speck of metal, minerals, and ores and the like. He refuses to let them remain hidden underground, unseen by others. He wants to share their glorious nature with others. When he was on a mining expedition, an accident left him paralyzed. The tunnel he was working in had caved in on him, and he slipped into a coma. When he awoke, his paralasys had left him, but the damage done to him was irreversable. Nearly lobotomized into a state not unlike the slaved, he now has no place among either the free or the slaved Vaurcas, walking with a foot in both worlds. Sometimes he has bad days where he cannot function well without clear directives, devoid of a free will, his social and verbal skills poor. If not given orders, he will go about the day machine-like, breaking rock after rock, collecting materials for others, often forgetting to care for himself. Other days, he is a strong and resilient individual, and speaks his mind often. No matter what state he is in however, he still keeps his love of geology. What do you like about this character? He's incredibly focused, and was pretty much born with 'tunnel vision' (KEKEKEKEKEK). He doesn't care about anything else much except for his work. Despite being a 'free' Vaurca, his accident rendered him almost socially frowned upon, like the slaves of his kind. He has bad days and good, but he's aleays functional enough to know what he's doing. And he does it well! I also like his affinity for geology. It's not a, "oh, shiney!" thing, it's more of a "what a beauty!" thing. Like the crocodile hunter. But with rocks. And more boring. Lots and lots of rocks. Despite his accident, it has not deterred him one bit from his love of discovering rare ores. The majority of him was also replaced with prosthetics and synthetic organs due to exposure to space and his specie's unique anatomy. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Golden. Yes, that was another mining pun. Notes: I know, this character is terribly stereotypical of ant-people, but that's kinda the point. I put a twist on it by making him a little disabled. Poor guy. I shouldn't be allowed to make apps XD "My namek iz Ka'Akaix Deeg K'lax. Andt it iz vhat I do. I dig." As Muncorn has pointed out, this application falls short of many expectations. It does not display an adequate understanding of lore, and is in many cases contrary to lore. The concept of a Vaurcae with a "foot in both worlds" is impossible - if an Unbound Vaurcae became paralyzed to the point of no longer being effective, it would be decomissioned. Although lobotomy is an important part of being Bound, it is not the sole distinction. Moving on from that, and for a moment ignoring the previous problem, the backstory itself fails to display an understanding of the lore in of itself, because it omits any significant information. "Deeg" is just a miner, and nothing else in your backstory. It fails to prove that you understand the facets of Vaurcae society, their current situation in Tau Ceti, or the role of each individual Vaurcae. Finally, the admission of this being a 'joke' character is not a plus for your record. While the answers to the OoC questions are not serious impediments, they only further showcase your unfamiliarity with the subject material - both passages focus more on mechanical differences than more nuanced differences. And ultimately, the name 'Deeg' is unacceptable, especially since you have confirmed its connotation with 'dig'. Vaurcae names are as serious as any other name, and are not an excuse to sneak in a reference or pun. I will leave this application open to permit any necessary edits. Before editing, I seriously advise you read the wiki page on Vaurcae ((https://aurorastation.org/wiki/index.php?title=Vaurca)) several times over. Link to comment
