Stauto Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 As it stands, xenoflora doesn't have a way of clearing disks of their genome. Once it is on there, it's permanent. Since they only start with about 8, simple experimentation will not let you test all of the targetable genes. I think there should be a way to either clear the disks and render them blank, or produce disks by using the biogenerator.
Korinra Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 I don't know much about Xenoflora as I've never tried it, but as a possible solution, what about making it a database, and the disks just serve as temporary storage. That way you could feasibly use one disk to do the entire job, as long as you keep uploading the data to a database, which saves it on a console and resets the disk to empty. Then if you want to, you can retrieve the data from the console back on to the disk for reuse later. I don't know how feasible that is or how it would impact the job, so I'll leave that as just a possibility to consider.
Stauto Posted April 29, 2017 Author Posted April 29, 2017 It gets complicated. Let's say TG is the code for potency. Kois TG would code for 60 potency, but Nettles would code for 20. They would both show that they are TG, but would also show their plant. However, if you give Kois TG to a chili, it's new potency is 60. Old chili has a Potency of 20. The problem is, both of those TGs would say they were TG from Chilis (one modified, the other not... unless the other one was modified as well...), so unless you could make separate folders and add notes to the folders, it might not work well. I think it would be good, having to take notes for the genome in the computer, as it would help weed out separate true scientists from those who just want to make 60 potency Ambrosia Deus
Korinra Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 What if it just had each plant as a folder, and each plant had all of it's stats when you open it. However, with almost every disk on station, you could always just use the disk in your hand to clear it.
Synnono Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 As it stands, xenoflora doesn't have a way of clearing disks of their genome. Once it is on there, it's permanent. Is this true? I was able to clear the data off of these disks by using it in my hand last I played xenobot. I can confirm it works on Lohikar's test build as of today. While it's supposed to be brought up in its own suggestion thread, I do like the idea of an in-game database. I usually am just using a notepad file for my own reference, but having something in a computer that you could then share to station computers/tablets, or use to populate the ever-so-used xenoflora genome mapping paperwork would be neato.
Stauto Posted April 30, 2017 Author Posted April 30, 2017 Turns out, I am just a megaderp. I thought you guys meant in the right-click menu. Sorry about that.
