driecg36
BYOND Key: driecg36 Character Names: Pierre Leonce, Aramis Laurent, Andrei Yeltsin, Samuel Jets (scrapped/turned into Jackass) Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes, I have. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I quite enjoy robotic/synthetic characters in fiction, and think they can have really interesting personalities and stories that aren't available to organics, such as problems with sentience and purpose (well people have that last one too sometimes but you get what I mean). I used to main an IPC on paradise back when I played on it (P.I.E.R.R.E. Shit name and shit server I know, haven't touched it a while), and now that I'm getting more used to HRP I have a couple of neat ideas for synthetic characters that aren't really possible with law-bound synthetics. It's something unique that would bring a lot of variety to my RP experience and playtime, and I think I would enjoy that a lot. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Well, to start with the obvious, IPC's are entirely synthethic. No organs, no blood, no pain. Synthetics would be much less afraid to get hurt, but would still have feelings of self-preservation. IPC's also don't feel standard emotion, but instead have emotion synthesizers that are created to simulate emotion, to various degrees of accuracy, which means they would be much less emotional/unpredictable than a normal human. They also have personality emulators, but I my first character will not have one of these. The way IPC's are viewed and treated is also very different, as they have the least options for command out of any species in the game (aside from vaurca, who have none). They are generally mistrusted by the vast of majority of people, especially the skrell who have a backstory with them, and have to work extra hard to maintain relationships as they are quintessentially different from anything else on the station, sometimes having more in common with borgs than with organics. Another difference with IPC's comes from culture; since they really have none, their backstory is very different to that of organics. They don't get educated, they are built in with the appropriate knowledge. They aren't born, they are made for a purpose. They don't have families. The way the company treats them is also very different, as they are often seen as tools to be bought rather than workers to be hired, even if they are unbound. Character Name: Mac Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Mac, or ENGINEERING MACHINE MODEL C-5 ISSUE 5439 was a factory printed industrial IPC designed with no personality module, no emotional module, and the minimum amount of circuits required to achieve its purpose: engineering. It was trained in all aspects of engineering to be as efficient as possible, with no extra baggage; it was closer to a floorbot than a person. However, when it was shipped out of the factory to be sold to some construction company, the ship carrying it (and 200 of its sister models) underwent a terrible accident, stranding the ship in space with a deceased crew and a heavily damaged shipment. Unit 5439 stayed there, dormant and powered down, for many years until a ship of scavengers came across the wreck of his cargo freight. When picking through its remains, the found one model still functional; unit 5439. The scavengers activated the unit, and it became a part of their crew. At first, they treated it like it was; a simple machine. However, due to its hard work, the scavengers grew fond of it and upgraded its circuits best they could, including getting it a relatively cheap emotion synthesizer. Unit 5439 started to take in its surroundings as more than just plates to weld, owners to protect, and wires to maintain. It began to learn about the world, for the first time. It observed it's human compatriots. It saw how they interacted with each other and tried to imitate them, often failing miserably, a trait which the crew found endearing. Eventually, the crew found that it had enough personality to be called something other than "robot." After many long years of work, it's name had been worn down, until only 3 letters remained clear enough to read: ENGINEERING MACHINE MODEL C-5 ISSUE 5439. Mac was born, and unit 5439 was forgotten. Eventually, the scavengers grew too poor to sustain Mac and upkeep him, so they sold him to Nanotrasen, where it is now employed as an engineer. What do you like about this character? A lot of my characters are kind of assholes, so having an innocent machine trying to learn about the world and just fit in with the people around it would be something new and fresh for me. Generally, I think Mac could have a lot of interesting interactions where he attempts to be "human" and fit in. Mac would generally be non-confrontanional and offensive, but would always try to learn from the things going on around him. He would also try to awkward participate in social interactions, something which could be pulled off as somewhat comical and endearing. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Honestly? Probably a 7/10. I always act like my character would act, and take into consideration my character's personality into everything I do. However, I sometimes get carried away in the moment, especially in intense situation, and kind of switch into "combat mode" where I don't really focus on RP and focus more on winning. I have been trying to overcome and change that, with decent success. Otherwise, I try to create interesting characters that affect the environment their in in a unique way. Notes: I have also played "simple" borgs quite a bit, but no overarching ones, usually opting for default names and RP-ing being more mechanical/simple. I rarely play PAI, but I do about the same things as borgs. Link to comment
