[Accepted] Trazz's Unathi Whitelist app

Recommended Posts

BYOND Key:Trazz666

Character Names:Jaylee Zaun, Flora Zaun, Brooke Rosensteel, Sasha Chernovic

Species you are applying to play:Unathi

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt):Either black or red, leaning towards black

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:Yes

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race:They are interesting in both mechanics and lore. Out of all the alien species, I appreciate their background and roleplay potential the most. The clan system is a bit cliche, but I feel it's not entirely detrimental to them as more of a warrior race. I also really enjoy the small details, like the dislike of cold or the lesser tolerance to alcohol. I appreciate the whole concept of these almost Klingon type lizards trying to fit in with a bunch of sissy softskin mammals.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:There's a lot with the Unathi. The whole thing about who's allowed to touch you and where, the idle mannerism, the inter-Unathi roleplay. There's the matter of honor and how you treat others that reflects on your clan, giving your actions more weight than your standard human, especially if you're doing something illegal. It's probably a little more strict than the free-form type of roleplay you can expect from humans, but offers some interesting conflicts and character aspects.

Character Name:Krosk Uttaz

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphsRarely spoken, but always observant, Krosk prefers to see potential problems and take preventative measures before issues arise. If he observes a potentially racist crew member, he gives them a wide berth. Does a window look minorly cracked, but hasn't broken? He fixes it and re-enforces it ahead of time to prevent any breaches. Without forewarning, he's a tad slow to react to situations, but he tends to keep his eyes open for just such a case. His patience and deliberate actions lead him towards engineering or even security work.

Second son to the clan leader Uttaz, Krosk was not held to such a high demand of military honor as his brother. Growing up on Ouere allowed Krosk a chance to pursue a mechanical career, started by fixing small stuff around the manor that would get broken by his brother's swordsmanship training. A small time hobby soon became a career as he enlisted to a local engineering academy to hone his skills. A Nanotrasen recruiter on Ouere caught wind of the young engineer and sought to enlist him to the company's apprenticeship program, promising a faster degree than the academy could offer. He accepted and bid his family farewell and was whisked away to begin his new career.

What do you like about this character?I like the idea of being more patient than your normal Unathi. A little slow to bringing out the claws. Plus, I feel it'd be a nice intro Unathi character to practice RPing with.

How would you rate your role-playing ability?I would say a 7 or 8 out of 10. Some days I'm a little off, but nobody's perfect.

Notes:This is my first alien race whitelist app. Be gentle <3

On the one hand, this is Zaun's player wanting to be an unathi. And she's written, in this application, the implication that most unathi are quick tempered and violent. The relaxed and chill unathi is not a new thing. I myself have two unathi head characters who are pretty chillax. Jackboot has at least one of them. I'm not super keen on that being the driving point behind the character application.

Also, Ourere is, was, and remains a fairly recent colony. It's less than 30 years old, I believe? (I'd have to look at the time table later and maybe revise this bit for accuracy) How old is your character? The 'grew up on Ourere' thing is something that should be considered carefully when creating a character.

On the other, I dunno. It doesn't seem particularly bad as a character. Tell me a little about how you plan to address these issues, and how you feel playing an unathi who is apparently notable for being non-aggressive would be like.

One of the reasons I'm wanting this character to be slow to aggression and be more passive is partially influenced by certain Unathi I've RP'd with, but also do to the fact that since Jaylee is my main character, I don't want people assuming her aggressive and confrontational manner will transfer over to someone with natural claws (That's also why I listed my security officer Brooke Rosensteel as one of my characters, her being the antithesis to Jaylee). That being said, when his life or others are in danger, he will defend himself appropriately, but he won't go out of his way to start fights.

I looked it up, and Ourere has been colonized for only 19 years. I hadn't realized that. I was planning on having him be fairly young, 20 or so, so I could have a reasonable excuse to get back into engineering as an apprentice. I'll retcon his story to where he maybe wasn't born on Ourere, but his clan moved there when he was very young.

I don't exactly like Jaylee Zaun, both ICly and OOCly but it is because of the character's personality and actions, you are able to play as aggressive characters without getting to the point of it being considered bad roleplay, unlike me.

Hello! Sorry for the delay.

Your unathi is shown to be slow and even-tempered and seemingly overly-cautious, but slow to adapt to rapidly unfolding situations. It's an interesting personality; I am just caught up on some small details I would like to see some detail on.

You said they 'grew up' on Ouerea - were they part of the first wave of colonists? Ouerea has only been settled for about 22 years - the first people born on Ouerea would be just entering young adulthood. How old are they?

What religion is Krosk and how does this affect his life and views on the world? How influential was his shaman or priest in his formative years?

(Ok what the heck, my reply didn't post? I'm replying on mobile and it's terrible.)

Kaed mentioned the age thing as well. He's going to be fairly young, 23 to 25, somewhere in that range. His clan would of been one of the first to colonize the planet. As such, he would of been surrounded by engineers building habitats and other buildings at a young age, influencing his career choices.

As for religion, I like the Sk'akh's importance of balance. I feel his priest would directly, or indirectly have influenced his cautious and analytical nature, making him aware of his actions causing inbalance in situations not properly considered.

I would suggest being 25 years old because that is the minimum age required to be a station engineer.

Other than that, your take on Sk'akh being about balance is interesting. Sk'akh was intended to put across that it put Duty as the most important thing, while Th'akh was concerned with balance. Interpretations are up to the individual of course - and I'll be interesting in seeing how this all plays out on station! Application accepted.
