DaBurs
BYOND key: DaBurs Character names: Prismatic Stars in Cosmos - Scientist Hugh Ellrich - Phoron Researcher David 'The Bear' Voigt - Janitor (Currently) Ka'Akaix'Hektu Zo'Ra - Electrician Wu Ziang - Crime Scene Investigator Simon Straub - Journalist How long have you been playing on Aurora?: A ruh-eeely long time. Years. Probably first joined in 2014. Got pretty seriously into it late 2015, and finally made a forum account in the first quarter of 2016. Now, it's late 2017 and here I am. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: Mostly to roleplay Prismatic as being a Dionae Research Director. I think that would be pretty interesting, seeing how rare people who main Diona are. Why did you come to Aurora?: To make friends and roleplay. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: I have, and I'm humbled by the special tasks a Research Director has to undertake in terms of working prevention, instead of production. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: I think roleplay in it's core element is getting the chance to live your life temporarily through the eyes of another person, or even species. To get to experience some amazing things in the world that you never will in real life. To go through some of the worst experiences aswell, that you'll never have to deal with in real life and to grow from them. To bond and connect with people over both the good and the bad. In the end, this is also what roleplay should be about. To roleplay is to interact with others as much as it is to react to your environment. A way to escape with a group of other people, if only for a few hours and to experience an entirely different universe. That's what I think roleplay is, and what it's about. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: I think out of character, a Head of Staff is expected to have a certain level of maturity when it comes to handling OOC conflicts where admin intervention is avoidable or unnecessary. A Head of Personnel should be there to dissuade people from doing things they know they shouldn't be in that area, but also help them when they don't know what to do. It goes without saying as a Head of Staff you're the leader of your area- and should act like a beacon for both experienced and new players around you. Being in this position means you have realize that you're supposed to act as an example to the people in your department, because you'll be remembered for the things you say and do. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Prismatic Stars in Cosmos Character age: As a Diona, I'm not sure this entirely applies. Being made up of multiple organisms, each with their own age and all. Let's say all of the nymphs that make up Prismatic are over the age of 30? In all seriousness, this is sort of a grey area. Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Prismatic was originally something of a Dionaea diplomat, acting more as a gift to the Human-Skrell joint force - sent after the infamous power plant incident. Working as a faint voice of reason between the three species as they furthered their scientific research and communication with his race, Prismatic often traveled between the Diona craft and the vessels of the human and Skrell to relay further information and sometimes packages to these stations. However, one fatal incident aboard a Nanotrasen in-between shuttle would show Prismatic's inner worth as a cluster. High air pressure caused by unknown tamperings and a remote signaller upon an air, and nitrous oxide canister being shipped cracked even the reinforced windows, and time would soon run short for those aboard. Reacting as quickly as could be processed, and with the intent of keeping relations stable between all the races, Prismatic broke the already cracking window- sending the pressure levels to a safer level. The fibrous roots of Prismatic would rip and tear slowly as the vacuum of space tried to violently rip him, and the rest of the crew out into it. However, the Dionaea held strong- using himself as a block in the hold just long enough for a brave engineer to inflate a large wall of air to take his place. As crewmembers who had exposed to unfortunate amounts of N20 would describe it, in this moment of high pressure and nitrous oxide the Dionaea before them appeared to have shimmering and glowing roots. This clear hallucination of the drugged and pressurized crewmembers lead to the cluster of nymphs adopting the name he know identifies as. Remembering the Diona's bravery after it's collective graduation from Solis Cognito University in conjunction with it's discovered aptitude for science, Prismatic was accepted into a Research Director position. (This backstory is an edited version of the original backstory for the whitelist. Originally I was going to play an engineering role with this character, but retconned this into a science role after greatly enjoying my time in the department.) What do you like about this character?: I like playing a character who is very curious and thoughtful, who likes to try every possible solution to any given situation. This is a design by his race, which I also greatly found myself to enjoy. I'm honored to play a Diona, and feel relaxed playing one. It's all about putting one tendril in front of the other and getting the job done at your own slow, planty pace. What do you dislike about this character?: As a Diona, it's a character where you aren't always completely receptive to suggestions. Diona are perceived as intelligent on their own, and when you think you're the smartest on in the room when it isn't always true you're bound to ignore some pretty credible suggestions by your fellow co-workers. At the same time, not being a species seen too much around the station in conjunction with that same sense of curiosity the species has leads you to being a big unknown in people's eyes. When people don't know what to make of you, it's harder to connect with them. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: I think this Diona has the ambition to push research further, the friendly attitude that's already made itself a large group of friends in the science department to push away stigmas about it's species, and the wisdom from past scientific endeavours to know when things will not work out. Underneath his 'soft petals' can be a hard lump of oak, sturdy and true and ready to lead his team of scientists- and Nanotrasen, towards a brighter future. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: In the past I could have done a lot more in terms of roleplaying as an antagonist- I've mentioned this before in my race whitelist apps, but when it comes to roleplaying outside of that I know I'm capable if I want to be, and I really want to be now. I've already been accepted into the Vaurca and Diona whitelists and roleplaying as both species has opened my eyes to different styles of RP and I believe, and hope, improved me as a person. I'm not pulling any punches here, or holding anything back with this answer. I've done bad before. I'm not pure, and I never can wipe that slate clean entirely- but I'll still try hard to not be a blemish to the server. Extra notes: As always, thanks for giving me the opportunity to write this application. Link to comment
