Haveatya
BYOND Key: Haveatya Character Names: Tyco Revre (Sec Officer and Paramedic), Galahad (Sec Robot), Seth Gramaton (Captain), Knight (AI), BEAST (Engineering Robot) Species you are applying to play: (Industrial) IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): - Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I prefer to play the synthetic races and have yet to expand to any other race besides human in any station. I want to expand my gaming repertoire and a new 'race' might be a good way to do that. I like the challenges and personality that comes with an utter lack of personality in robots that I play, but want to spread that playstyle into a race that functions as a normal crewmen. Industrial IPCs come with a unique set of advantages and disadvantages that would make the play experience different from a mechanics and RP perspective of a security robot, and the thought of spending hours relearning the intricacies of my character is great. Industrial IPCs are also something I don't see very often, so bringing more variety to the station is always fun! Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: I currently play humans and robots exclusively, mixing and matching aspects of the cold omniscience and the need of crewmen and specific tools to accomplish jobs provides a unique experience. Having to recharge and use different equipment than normal brings up new challenges that reinvigorate the setting and interactions with other people. Being able to wade through a fire to rescue a crewmen is dramatic and is something that a human couldn't do but an robot could almost do too easily. That middle ground drama I am looking for is something I've missed from my years of play. Character Name: Ranger G-031 Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs The conflict between Biesel and Sol saw conflict in all facets. Skirmishes, political maneuvers, and economic diplomacy were ongoing. A military engineer turned entrepreneur saw an opportunity in all of these fronts. Using positronic brains in heavy duty chassis, dependable soldiers, guards, police, or any sort of armed personnel could be replaced cheaply with no loss in capability. Multiple levels of positronic brains were inserted in heavier IPC chassis to provide different capabilities and specialties. Ranger G-031 was part of the Gamma series of 'Ranger' specification IPCs. Originally planned to serve in combat roles they were designed with minimal positronic space for emotions but suitable combat and field medicine skills to aid their human operators. With Rangers being planned to deploy with humans, they are extremely subservient. Designated overseers receive unparalleled obedience. Rangers will sacrifice themselves without thought and actively defend their operator's until their 'death'. G-031 was given to NT as a sample model NT was not overly impressed at the start. Depending on the record of G-031 or the other 11 Rangers, NT may eventually pursue their purchase. G-031 is not a special example or high performing, but has been active for only a few months, Ranger 'Goel' is adjusting to a new environment and accepting new responsibilities that his base personality and chassis wasn't built to accommodate for. What do you like about this character? 'Goel' is almost too easily manipulated by his superiors and could be a tool in the hands of antags or a devastating agent to be used against them as an IPC with no regard for itself (if ordered directly into conflict) will be a pain to eliminate in a fight. I will likely RP exaggerated responses to crimes and jokes but refuse to use it as a reason to valid an antag. RP is RP whether it is with a the baldy botanist that is making drugs or the veteran merc that is causing havoc on station and if I have to die because it better fits the story then I am more than happy to, it is likely in character. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 8, my characters I currently have a well developed and maintaining character is pretty easy and common. That said, I will be the first to admit I can get frustrated with things and start to just do things myself when I am frustrated with how things are going. Notes: Some of this is copied from a previous application, but my understanding of IPCs is greatly improved and I believe this is a better application. AllyBearsley
Okay first thing's first: It's nice to leave the bold around the parts that had bold in the original template. Second, I haven't seen many of your characters, beside BEAST. I can scarcely remember BEAST. I can scarcely remember most borgs. However, I don't have negative thoughts about BEAST, unless I'm mistaken he was pretty useful. To the app itself. It's not bad. Your answers are acceptable, you're using some lore reasons for this unit's existence, and you're really working on fleshing out why this unit was built. I kind of like what you're going for. What I do not like is the constant mentions of "no fear to damage". IPCs of course do not feel fear like organics, but they do want to act in self preservation. Their bodies and Posi-brains are expensive. Damaging/Losing those to carelessness is not a good thing. I'm worried you're looking to play an IPC to ignore fear/self preservation RP. This is only doubled by the fact you want to start with an Industrial Frame, a frame that can be argued as "overpowered". Absolutely nothing that just breaks the app, but it does give me apprehension. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Link to comment
Haveatya
It may have come off incorrectly, but self preservation is intact until a supervisor orders something. With his model designed for subservience and loyalty, having an IPC consistently concerned with its own life wouldn't be suitable. Goel will be careful and not suicidal by any stretch but if HoS or Captain says 'Breach the room' or 'Defend me' then nothing but death will stop it from accomplishing the objective. Link to comment
Guest Marlon Phoenix
Hello, Sorry for the delay in your application. You do have solid feedback and provide a good justification for the character. However, I do have to echo the concern of Allybear: even as an IPC, admins enforce rules on self-preservation. It would be far better if your IPC avoided damage to its chassis when possible. If you are ever in doubt about such things, feel free to ahelp. I do not want this to sit any longer, so I will accept this app with this reminder. Link to comment
