[Denied] Kyutness' IPC Whitelist Application

Recommended Posts

BYOND Key:

Kyutness

Character Names:

Quinn Terrance

Species you are applying to play:

IPC

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt):

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:

Yes

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race:

I have always enjoyed playing synthetic creations and the thought of beings that mimic humanity fascinates me. As well as the possibilities of artificial personalities having seemingly illogical quirks.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

As an IPC, one must take into account, at least to some degree, how their posibrain functions. Is it basic and functioning solely on a simplistic Utility system. Or is it more complicated than that? On top of this, emotion synthesizers could make interesting possibilities. Who's to say that synthetic races respond to emotional psychological trauma the exact same way as humans

Character Name:

Mediuni

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

Mediuni was built by Hephaestus Industries to serve as a comforting, if expensive face to greet those coming into medical facilities for treatment. Originally under the designation Medical Unit 53-22, he was sent to various stations and was given emotion synthesizers. He went to many stations without incident, being fairly happy and easily mistaken for human as he constantly joked. He acquired his name from a nickname, as medical unit didn't have a nice ring to it. This existence was nice. Fixing people was nice. Socializing is nice. Though on one station, still not publicly known what happened to it, Mediuni was assigned to it, and had had a simple enough time. Before suddenly there was panicked yelling over comms. No one was clearly communicating the threat that was taking place. Mediuni was in the dark until people were dragged into medbay with massive injuries. Some with scans revealing... Something was inside them that should not be there.

Before Mediuni could help these patients, or even wrap his head around what is happening, he was forcibly taken out of medbay. Forced to leave behind so many injured and dying. Mediuni took note the person bringing him to an escape pod was injured, but he did not have anything with him to patch the wound. He and this person. Were friends. And locked in the escape pod with him, he was forced to watch this friend die. Along with being forced to essentially accept that all the other friends on that station were gone forever. It fried something in his head. Particularly, the emotional synthesizer. While emotions still shine through from time to time. Mediuni now tends to behave in a blatantly robotic manner. Talking very flatly in a permanently friendly tone, and constantly, disturbingly smiling. He still performs his tasks just as well, but is nowhere near as comforting as he once was.

What do you like about this character?

The idea of psychological trauma in a synthetic mind fascinates me. Also I love medical roles in most things.

How would you rate your role-playing ability?

Fair. I'm not the best but definitely not new to this. New to blending gameplay and roleplay? Yes. New to roleplay? Not in the slightest. (MUDs and MUSHes. Google it.)

Notes:

Fairly unfamiliar with Aurora station lore. More than willing to tweak things where needed.

Indirectly. They have absolute zero knowledge about what happened. Just that an entire station kinda got swept under the rug without a word. Also, if you're familiar with Paradise Terror Spiders, the story can line up with them being the culprit as well. (White terror spider eggs) I was intentionally being vague about what it was to not allow the character to have meta-knowledge.

White spiders here will also put eggs in people (speaking from experience, one once split me in half, because the eggs were in my lower body and it gibbed when the eggs hatched), so it is possible this was a spider attack that went further than most usually do.

As for the application itself, I don't really know you, or your chars, but the fact that you made this app for RP reasons and don't seem too focused on mechanical advantages/disadvantages seems like a good thing to me.

I've never seen your character, but I'm of the opinion that if you look like you're capable of handling a character, a race whitelist (Or, mechanical whitelist), then there's no reason to give a -1. I'd like you to clarify a bit on the origins of your character in the backstory, though. What company made him? What is his IPC-given designation? This doesn't have to be your name, but one notable example - Noir, let's say -- has a series of numbers and digits to represent a unit 'name', but is still known as Noir.

I kinda intentionally evaded the company and unit ID stuff, because I am quite unfamiliar with that sort of thing. That was what I was going to work with someone else with if someone had answered my request to PM then about stuff. Even though I read through the IPC wiki about three or four times, my brain refuses to form a coherent answer for which company would make the most sense for making him. Mainly due to my slight fear of getting something wrong and stuff.

I'd suggest Hephaestus Industries, or some sort of made-up analogue company. That's generally the go-to company in lore for synthetics/prosthetics/augmentations and the likes.

Taking your advice, I have made edits to the backstory stuff. Thank you!

Hello, thank you for your application and sorry for the delay! It has been quite a while. In the future you can always PM me, the loremaster, if your application sits for longer than 4 days.

Your application shows a good understanding of IPC's, and in general is a good application. However I asked an admin about it (Garnascus) and your tragic backstory being a xenomorph attack is problematic. Having these sort of incidents be witnessed by played characters is not something we can do lightly, because it begins to threaten the rule about consistent and realistic characters.

If Kyutness is willing to change the tragic incident to something else, this app would be easily one I could accept.
