LordFowl Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 Some of you may remember this project from over a year ago - https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=72&t=6721&start=10 I have resumed working on this project and thanks in large part to the work of printer16 have made some significant headway. Sprites are still unavailable and I leave this post open so that people may post their critiques and suggestions, particularly for module ideas. I will note that some things have changed - improvised weapons have been taken off the table entirely due to the experiments with the improvised .45 and shotguns, and stocks being of random quality has also been dropped.
MoondancerPony Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 I'm pretty sure there's a PR on Polaris that adds modular laser weaponry. Might be worth a look, if not a direct port. If it's not a PR yet, I can still get the source code for it. I'm sure the sprites are also able to be used.
Pacmandevil Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 would be infinitely better than just a gun factory science, as now you'd actually have to do something asides from mindlessly mash a button to get the guns.
ajstorey456 Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Does this mean zombifying laser guns, like putting an AEG recharger on a laser cannon, or does this mean printing AEG body, lens, focusing crystal and slapping it all together like a neat little puzzle?
LordFowl Posted December 9, 2017 Author Posted December 9, 2017 Does this mean zombifying laser guns, like putting an AEG recharger on a laser cannon, or does this mean printing AEG body, lens, focusing crystal and slapping it all together like a neat little puzzle? I currently have no plans of modifying existing guns, although theoretically the system could be designed to replace energy weapons entirely (semi) easily. It's just not something I'm interested in completely refactoring now - in short, just printing currently.
NoahKirchner Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 This could potentially be fit in with integrated electronics. Have a "Weapon part printer" (Needs a better name) which would allow you to print the chassis (as mentioned in the initial post) and all of the bits and bobs you need. Potentially even allowing you to individually print the stock, barrel, et cetera for maximum modulation and then filling each individual part with the aforementioned bits and bobs. For example, to make a compact weapon you'd print a short barrel, something that would have barely any space, a small action that would allow you to mess with the internal firing mechanism, a stock that you could maybe add some neat-o futuristic stuff into, et cetera. In the barrel you could add different types of focusing lenses and in the action you'd be able to pick the type of crystal you'd use, how large it is, et cetera and then add some heat sinks to keep the gun from exploding. Ontop of all of this you could maybe even have some parts to an already built weapon which allows it to fit in and connect to some kind of assembly, one similar to the one which allows you to connect it to igniters. That way you can, if you're an antag, sabotage a gun or build a remote shut-off switch for it whenever you hand it to somebody. Loads-a-possibilities.
