Eyelessraven Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 BYOND Key: Eyelessraven Character Names: Ida Wei, Annika Marshall, Lorelia Alliman, Samara Vonnixon Species you are applying to play: Tajaran What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Part of the Njarir’Akhran group in the color cream Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: I have Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I very much enjoy the body language aspect of it. On top of the fact it’s enjoyable to see the world or station rather from an extraordinary point of view. To challenge yourself to think like a unique creature. Don’t forget not only am I indulging in Tajaran history; I’m creating a character different from what the Tajaran are usually forced into. As they were predominantly on stages or in military because of their inadequate education. I wanted to develop something inspiring as far as a backstory. Something what would show as her inspiration as she works on the station. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: I have always loved playing feline races when it comes to rp. We all need to branch out somewhere, and I’ve chosen animalistic characters. I’ve played different types of animalistic characters and feel most comfortable with them as they allow me to widen my skills through unlimited body language possibilities. For example if you have a shy human character, you can be silent and use different postures and motions to convey peculiar emotions. Be that as it may, the aspects are largely broadened with something like a Tajarn while making it a fun challenge to remember “Oh, I have a tail, what is that doing in this situation?” “I have ears that can show I feel threatened. How can I articulate that?” Character Name: Anjara Toviktanni Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Anjara Toviktanni conceived of the Njarir’Akhran bloodline lived in comfort with her close knit family. Her grandfather, with his experience in The People’s Republic parliament was given many opportunities for generations to come. Anjara, who was blessed with the same opportunities as her grandfather, took advantage of the educational system she had access to. Her family stressed that her education would be important for her success and from as young in age as she could, she began her studies. Nevertheless, she didn’t adequately understand until later on why she studied as hard as she did, she never took for granted the opportunities before her. As a young teenager Anjara was first exposed to the troubles of her people. Though she knew of the civil war that still challenged them to date, Anjara being nobility wasn’t exposed to many middle and lower classed folk. She first started noticing the misery of her people while in her classes. There wasn’t talk of many great Tajaran lest they were war veterans or part of the Hadii government. Others were just actors and cooks from television. Anjara took it into her own hands to learn more about the side of her people she wasn’t ever allowed to see. Being a curious risk taker, she would leave her home to see her world from a different view. She conveyed much empathy and remorse for all that her less fortunate brothers and sisters had to face and promised them she’d do her best to shape their lives for the better. Fueled by her promise and inspired by her desire to learn, Anjara looked into many fields before settling on Xenobiology. She poured her hours into the study as it was a self-sufficient way she could develop resources and even food out of thin air. By assessing the numerous types of slimes she could contribute her knowledge back to her people and assist them to change for the better. When approached by NanoTrasen for her dedicated studies Anjara eagerly took the offer. Though she was somber to leave her home she’d return with what she believed would be revolutionary knowledge. With her gods watching over her and the blessing of her native land, Anjara set out onto the Aurora to make a difference. What do you like about this character? I appreciate that Anjara doesn’t run away from the problem she tries to fix. She realized she cannot assist in the way most do by enlisting in the military and instead pursues a unique approach of providing the necessities that the middle class and poverty do not have, and aren’t given by Nano Trans. She surmises that if she can supply the resources and the enlightenment she has obtained more Tajaran can be free of only being seen as cheap workers. Anjara hopes to shed a fresh light on what the Tajaran can do for work. In my eyes she is all around a very inspiring character. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 8/10Notes:
Fire and Glory Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 I see you have no replies, lets take a look then. Character Names:...I do not know these people so we will judge the application on its own merits. Why do you wish to play this specific race:...Typical stuff, nothing to note here. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:I have always loved playing feline races when it comes to rp. How can I articulate that?”I feel like half of this should be in the 'why do you want to play this' question. So we have have established that Tajara have different body language, how about their social aspects? Those any different? Character Name: Anjara ToviktanniDecent name, hmhm. Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphsI feel like you might've caught the wrong end of the stick here. There were two civil wars, yes? The second one is generally messy but it's the first one that's most important in this case. To sum it all up. Approximately 80% of all Tajaran history consists of the working classes being oppressed by the upper classes, the Njarir and partially the M'sai dominating the Hhararhaarahr (yes I misspelled that) and the Zhan'kazans, and then 2 or 3 dozen years ago humans came, the working classes had something to compare their backwards society to, and decided they were sick of this and started a revolution to overthrow their overlords. The thing to keep in mind is that 95 to 99% of these overlords were Njarir, most of the noble families and the Njarir as an ethnicity ended up slaughtered, the only Njarir that survived were those that went into hiding, those who got booted out of their noble family at some point due to scandals like having a peasant lover or such, and the Hadii. What this means is that your Njarir girl would not have been unexposed to hardship because they'd have been suffering it for most of their life. Tajara are also expected to have strong political opinions regarding the second civil war due to it deciding what course the planet is going to take. Either supporting one of the factions or having good reason not to support any. I suggest you give the wiki another go over, and I cannot support this application without a good deal of reworking. Eyelessraven I'm shitting up your application yo
Eyelessraven Posted January 6, 2018 Author Posted January 6, 2018 I will fix this when I have available time then, thank you.
Mofo1995 Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 FaG does bring up a few good points. Though some of them can be eased with some implications. Firstly, there's an obvious implication that since Anjara's grandfather was in the Grand People's Congress, it's clear that her family sided with the rebels or Hadii during the first revolution to get by. So there's that issue put to bed. However the concept of her and her family being completely unexposed to hardship is a valid criticism. While her life might be sheltered in the wake of the revolution, maybe we could hear something about what her previous generations had to go through? The party of the PRA has also been known to have the occasional purge under Malik Hadii, maybe her grandfather was put out of a political career earlier than he intended? I do appreciate the take of not having your character be the subject of yet another war drama, but to make someone who is sheltered completely is rough when the flow of the lore heavily encourages adversity. Personally, I think the being out of touch and trying to reach out was a nice touch, and how her perception of the everyman was just what she would see on television. It'll make for a real culture shock when she boards the station and is shit on for her race all the time from disgruntled commoners. Anyways, once the above points are addressed, I think it would shape up this application to be good enough for whitelisting.
