Butterrobber202 Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 Subspace Sensors are Advanced space age Sensors that scan for The presence of gravity induced by ships and the rivets in space caused by bluespace drive emissions. The station is a research station equipped with some of the most expensive stuff NT has to offer, awesome. So why the heck do we have no Sensors to tell us if some fleet just showed up outside. The only way the crew can locate space bound objects is by line of sight. So what I’m proposing is to add a Sensors Monitor Console to the Bridge, for seeing what the sensors are reading, and a Sensors Control Room inbetween Engineering and Research. The console on the Bridge can, again, only see what’s being read at he current moment. But, the Control Room can modify what the sensors are looking for. Example, we're looking for a ship? Better use the scan for ships function which would seek out gravity and bluespace emissions. We're looking for a rock? Better send out a radar pulse that will bounce back and give us a reading. What this could be used for? Well HECKING GLAD U ASKED BUDDY!!1!1!1!!1! The Location of Merc and Raider ships if they've left their cloaks off The location of RIG suits that happened to be worn by the silly miner that decided not to turn on his medical sensors, The location of anomalies on the asteroid surface, anything without an ID (obviously this would have a serious cooldown ). Admin events! Allow admins to manually input data into the sensors for events. (Please post more ideas ok, I was thinking about how having sensors could help departments out as well, maybe something with miners and ore.) What it would be displayed as: Honestly I wanted something like Baystation has with their ship scanners, a radar like display that pings objects on a grid. but how am I supposed to use this to kill people? -evil Antags Another fine question, when the sensor control mainframe is emagged, you have two options. Overload the hub and cause the Aurora's exact coordinates to be broadcasted over Syndicate networks, triggering a response in the form of poorly armed raiders. Or, it causes a jamming effect, preventing faxes and ERT calls from going through until the crew manually reset the mainframe. Sadly it’s a complex piece of equipment, and it would take the crew at least 15 minutes to reset. ( Likley would be a countdown in the Console.) Anyways, suggest other ideas, just think this would be a cool and realistic addition.
MO_oNyMan Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 I mean.. yeah Cool - check Realistic - check complaints: the mainframe reset mechanism feels a bit weird. Like you'd have to get to the console, push 'reset' and hang around for 15 minutes? Maybe make some physical sensors around the station for engineers to go to and poke inside of to reset the overloaded sensors? Overall +1, the concept is neat, engineering is bored most of the time, more stuff for them to do is a good thing. Needs to be fleshed out a bit more
Butterrobber202 Posted March 2, 2018 Author Posted March 2, 2018 I mean, words lol Yeah, I was thinking about that, but I thought I would be to hard for the devs. But if they were willing to this then awesome sauce.
