EngineersDream
Hello! BYOND key: EngineersDream Character names: Fae McDonald, Emma Vasilyev, Sea of Rocks, Roar of the Chains, Corrine Nash, Cassidy Smith, Affinity, Affinity Mobile How long have you been playing on Aurora?: I don’t recall. If I had to guess I’d say about 8 months, give or take. I’ve been on the Aurora quite a while ago, then took a break from SS13 and came back. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I want to expand my horizon and the possibilities I have when playing. Why did you come to Aurora?: I was looking for an HRP Server, found the Aurora, played my first round and just stayed. The Server just works for me and I’ve grown quite attached to the community. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplaying means to shed your personality and assume an artificial one. This means taking a fictional characters point of view, mannerisms, preferences and dislikes as practically your own. Roleplay, from a personal point of view, should be about expanding your horizon, learn and practice empathy and, in terms of the game, allow for a temporary escape from your own life. When it comes to interaction with other players roleplay should be somewhat realistic and offer hooks to learn about other people’s characters as well as offer opportunities to share information about your own. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: I think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is to be an IC moderating force of sorts. They have a bigger picture of the situation at hand (usually, at least) and can make sure, that conflict between characters doesn’t get out of hand, that Antags have the possibility to make the round interesting for as many people as possible, to make sure that the round doesn’t end in fire and brimstone 20 minutes in, overall to make sure that people have fun playing. They are also there to ensure that new players can get into the game by providing guidance in character. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Like mentioned above the responsibility of a player cover making the game enjoyable. This means that the player in question needs to take in the situation as a whole, to the best of their abilities, and make decisions that ensure a smooth and enjoyable game. To me that means first and foremost not to powergame. Taking what you know about the game mechanics and ensuring that the Antag gets busted 5 minutes after their arrival just isn’t fun. They are also responsible for encouraging roleplaying by engaging other players and allowing stories and character development to take place. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Nicole Wright Character age: 33 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Wright was born on a small civilian station orbiting Mars to an industrial supervisor and a lawyer. Wright went through the usual chain of education and eventually enrolled in a smaller, private university on Mars, studying economics and management. After she had finished her Masters of Economics she applied to NanoTrasen and was assigned to managing the civilian sector of a fabrication station orbiting Tret, which mostly provided mass-fabricated parts for terraforming machinery. Her stay on the station was mostly uneventful, except for one incident, during which there was a catastrophic failure in the atmospheric systems of the station. While most residents of the station could be evacuated in time, with the station being re-build successfully afterwards, two cargo technicians died during the incident. Wright ensured that at the very least the bodies of the deceased were recovered, gaining her the reputation of never leaving anyone behind, if it can be helped at all. Wright continued her work on the station until NanoTrasen transferred her to a new station, the Aurora, as a Head of Personnel. What do you like about this character?: I like Wright's tendency to be encouraging and making sure that people have a decent time at work, understanding that a happy worker is a productive worker. It should provide plenty of hooks for roleplaying with other crew members. I generally like playing characters with a positive outlook without being unreasonably happy and optimistic. I think I managed to create a character that fits me without being too snowflakey. What do you dislike about this character?: She lacks a bit of out-of-work interests, which I find the hardest part of writing a believable character for the Aurora. This might leave her a bit out of water during extended and I’m hoping that I can find a hook during play to develop her interests a bit more. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: Wright has experience in management and feels highly responsible for the well-being of the staff that works under her. She has an interest in seeing people thrive in the work environment, if at all possible, and does her best to support those who need help as well as those who are ambitious. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: 8/10, I’d say. I’ve gotten a bit better since my last application, and am generally very invested in my characters, but there’s still quite a few things I need to learn, practice and improve. But at this point I feel pretty comfortable. Extra notes: There’s probably some mistakes in this application. If you find any, let me know so I can fix them. Edited post due to feedback via Discord. x2 Edit: Added character that I've been playing this last week or two. Have a nice day. Link to comment
