ThatOneEngie
BYOND Key: thatoneengie Character Names: Ryan Shephard Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Honestly, coloring IPCs should be a thing. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Why do you wish to play this specific race: Bweep buhwoop. Jokes aside, I'm interested in playing a IPC mostly because I want to slightly break the mold for IPCs, by making a more rough and tumble type. That, and I'm interested in seeing a different perspective then just the one of a human, especially since that's really the only race I've ever played as. I'm also really, really interested in the different mechanics of IPCs, and really, they just look cool. Lastly, I've had this character idea for a lil while now, and I thought I'd give this a go. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: IPCs are entirely mechanical in nature, obviously leading to what I could only imagine being a shitton of existential crisis's on the behalf of the IPCs, and obvious political and racial turmoil against them. If you could call a bunch of entirely synthetic beings a race. What I'm trying to say, is that i believe interactions with IPCs are a generally unexplored series of situations for most people, especially since i very rarely see them online. Of course, I say that, and now see a fair few other IPC applications, so that's just about my luck. Though, as another user pointed out, I kinda really missed the point of the question. It's different because, well, the obvious answer is that they're not human, but other then that, they have entirely different flow for speaking, if that makes sense. I could state a dozen smaller things, but the other ones that stick out to me are the inability/lack of a need to eat or drink. And of course, as stated before, it's playing a non-human in a human majority setting. Character Name: MiNE.RAR Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs MiNE.RAR started life as a simple mining borg, specializing in hazardous rescue of trapped or incapacitated miners, with a surprisingly low percentage of miners dying during rescues. This quickly caught the eye of the primary investor of the mining station, who proceeded to invest a small amount of credits in the form of buying a refurbished, yet unoccupied chassis. Despite initial skepticism and protests from other investors, the borg was soon uploaded to the IPC. Although the borg turned IPC was met with initial hostilities, it soon won it's place among the crew after pulling miners to safety almost constantly, It's continued, and almost religious following of Asimov's first law, and it's willingness to work. As with all good times though, they had to end. The asteroid that the station was on soon depleted of resources, leading to reassignment of the miners, and the IPC, now ending up as part of the mining company's liquidation sale, ended up getting "Hired" by nanotrasen, and assigned to, as luck would have it, the NSS Aroura. What do you like about this character? I feel like it's a fairly original idea, and I'm really, really curious as to what kind of situations might play out. Plus, robots are cool, space is cool, so this character is like, double cool, at least. In all seriousness, I think it would be a blast to roleplay as a human-centric IPC, and I believe that I'd be able to provide that interaction to other players to hopefully good effect. Plus, I just really like robots, and I've kinda fallen in love with the idea of IPCs, even more so after seeing many of them done absolutely amazingly. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Like, 6/10, but slowly and steadily improving. Notes: I understand the name could be iffy, so if required, I'm totally willing to come up with a different one. Also, sorry for the shitty state the application was originally in, I should've spent more time on it before submitting, but writing whitelists is a weak point for me. tbear13
BYOND Key: thatoneengie Character Names: Maybe uh, add your character names? Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Honestly, coloring IPCs should be a thing. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. You can color IPCs, but they can be any color unlike taj and unathi and such, so it's pretty much irrelevant. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Bweep buhwoop. Jokes aside, I'm interested in playing a IPC mostly because I want to slightly break the mold for IPCs, by making a more rough and tumble type. That, and I'm interested in seeing a different perspective then just the one of a human, especially since that's really the only race I've ever played as. Human master race. Other than your disloyalty to your species, this looks good. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: IPCs are entirely mechanical in nature, obviously leading to what I could only imagine being a shitton of existential crisis's on the behalf of the IPCs, and obvious political and racial turmoil against them. Of course, I say that, and now see a fair few other IPC applications, so that's just about my luck. I don't like this answer. IPCs, are mechanical, yes, but why does that lead to constant existential crisis? I don't see the logic there. And.. there's racism and they behave differently than each other, that's it? You pretty much danced around the question here. I'd like to see this modified or rewritten to show actual roleplay differences. Okay, so there's some issues with the backstory. So, he's a miner that's also a space-EMT, seems kinda weird, but okay. So, here's the issue. The borg was made an IPC illegally, according to the wiki. The borg would've needed to pay for itself ten times over, then pay for the chassis and positronic brain to "integrate" as an IPC. I don't really like that he was still following a law, seems like something he'd be glad to get away from. What do you like about this character? I feel like it's a fairly original idea, and I'm really, really curious as to what kind of situations might play out. Plus, robots are cool, space is cool, so this character is like, double cool, at least. That's good math, getting him up to double cool. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Like, 6/10, but slowly and steadily improving. I can't count that high, and I don't know who your characters are, so.. I'll just assume you're right Notes: I understand the name could be iffy, so if required, I'm totally willing to come up with a different one. I think a new name would be good, not a fan of this one. ThatOneEngie
Ah shit, I knew I forgot something. But you raise really good points, I'll make some changes to the whitelist. As for the backstory with the law, it's more that he's following it by choice, since I thought it was a kinda cool idea, but should it be a problem, then I'll change it. Though, for the existential crisis thing, I don't mean constantly, though I imagine it might be so in some cases. I more meant it as initially, after integration into a IPC, but I get what you're saying. Link to comment
