  1. I've loved every character of JJ's that I've interacted with so far; they're a talented roleplayer and I would trust them to take up the mantle of Command. +1 from me.
  2. Interacted with Kelly mostly as a Bridge Crewman, though never really directly. To mimick Dreamix, the radio silence was off-putting and my crewman was pretty much in the dark the whole time aside from a couple of snippets - but that's my only complaint. Otherwise from what I've seen as an observer, Kelly is really interactive with his department, and I liked that he was scheduling exercises and actually doing stuff when there wasn't antag shenanigans going on, as that's not really something I had seen before! +1 from me.
  3. I know it doesn't matter too much but I think I'm going to drop the addition from Tal-Sup's "first" name so it's just Tivoq - I'm not sure what the common ages are for skrell to make those kind of decisions are but I feel like a skrell that's just finished schooling wouldn't have had the experiences / etc. that might make someone want to adjust both of their names. I'm going to keep Tal-Sup, though, as I really like thr sound of it and want to think more about what it means.
  4. Typing this on my phone so forgive any errors, and thank you for responding: Tal-Sup feelings about non-Federation skrell typically falls along the lines of whether or not they were born outside or if they fled/left the Federation as a whole. Skrell that have never been a part of the Federation are more acceptable than the latter; he would feel that they can't be faulted for something that was largely out of their control. If, however, they willingly chose to leave the Federation he would view them suspiciously - obviously more so than Traverse-dwelling skrell as either they were delinquents or perhaps outright criminals. I see him as being around a 5.73, though he was around 6.3 prior to finding employment outside the standard avenues that usually keep one's credit score intact. The phoron scarcity is part of what pushed him towards the Horizon, I think. With travel restricted to essentials within the Federation this is both his chance to get out and explore and perhaps to do his part to alleviate the scarcity and set everything right again - especially with the increased marauder activity. I'm seeing Tal-Sup as around 70-71, ideally aiming to put him in the optimistic Radiant Era. This leads to the next question... I was originally going to go with only one degree, but if I'm tracking the timeline correctly by the time the Horizon was revealed he would have been close to finishing his second degree. If that's correct, he would have more than likely finished obtaining that second degree to further bolster his SCS via good grades in order to help alleviate the hit it would take.
  5. One of Toq'Vir's favorite foods happens to be a comfort food from when he was a tadpole and would help his quya prepare stews in one of the commune so'kii - in particular a gnazillae meat stew paired with fjylozyn broth as a sweetener. Usually he'd get caught trying to sneak a strip of the boiled fjylozyn as it was removed. He's very much at a crossroads in his opinion of synthetics that I'd like to develop in-game. He's very suspicious right now, as his only exposure really has been historical accounts and hearsay from classmates. I'd like to believe that, given his age, he could learn to accept synthetics on a case-by-case basis if not overall depending on who he interacts with on board the Horizon. Tal-Sup's very much pro-Federation and considers Skrell dwelling within the Traverse to be worthy of a cautious eye and perhaps outright avoidance if their credit score is low enough, though I don't think he'd let it get in the way of his job.
  6. BYOND Key: GlasgowSmiling Character Names: Ihsan Kader, Leif Bilrost, Ra’Akaix’Kig Zo’ra Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Red/Pink Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Why do you wish to play this specific race: The reasons I’d like to play a Skrell are twofold: they are immensely interesting both in biology, and in culture - at least those from the Federation proper. With most non-human characters I play, I enjoy using the unique biology that they have to convey emotion, intent, and general physicality of my characters. For me, it’s both a practice in writing and a fun way to use the ‘me’ verb more often. Describing the way a skrell might move their headtails to express their emotions, warbling and croaking and chirping, seems like it would be a lot of fun. As far as their culture goes, the idea of such a heavily monitored population is fascinating, especially considering the social credit system that the Federation uses (alongside Srom) to ensure societal conformation. My interest in both aspects combines when you consider the different ethnicities available and how they each fit into the culture of Federation society. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: While it may be plagiarizing from my answer above, it does sum up a lot of my interest in skrell. The differences between skrell and human are primarily when it comes to emotions and perspective; with how long-lived most skrell are, they are less concerned with events that won’t have a long-spanning ‘ripple’ in the Spur, while the reverse can add stacking stress to their psyche. Additionally, when interacting with non-skrell, the lack of “facial emotion” would be a fun thing to roleplay - or at least to hope others might roleplay with. It’ll be interesting to use the (thankfully extensively detailed) emotive analogues listed in the wiki to express my character. Character Name: Tivoq’Vir Tal-Sup Please provide a short backstory for this character: Tivoq’Vir was hatched on Aweiji in the city of Hyu'blaq'wesi - or at the very least in a Weishii commune on the outskirts. Though not a fanatical follower, he was raised as a weishiin and still carries those beliefs with him now that he is out in the greater Spur. With the majority of his Quya being laborers, craftskrell or farmers, the items offered at Tivoq'Vir's odurserr reflected those sorts of occupations. For the offering, he chose a ribbon typically used to denote the intended destination of supplies still in-transport, wishing to follow in the footsteps of his Qraa’Myaq. The following twenty-two years went by uneventfully with Tivoq’Vir obtaining above-average grades in math, astronomy, computer sciences and - most importantly - galactic history. This is where his path diverged; despite his original desire to work as a logistics manager like his Qraa’Myaq, the stars called to him. As a result, his studies shifted quite rapidly to accommodate. After finishing untuk’mak the young Skrell began studies at the Hyu’blaq’wesi College of Career Excellence where he underwent training to obtain a pilot’s license as well as taking advanced courses in galactic history and astronavigation. It wasn’t until the formation of the SCC that Tivoq’Vir would get his chance. In the year 2462, when the SCC officially formed, the young skrell saw his way into the stars. Though it would negatively affect his SCS - something he had been maintaining very carefully - he had decided he would sign on with the SCC once he was eligible. The following two years saw him putting forth every effort he could in order to offset the eventual loss in credit his plans would net him. Though perhaps not as impressive as if he were attending a more prestigious college, Tivoq’Vir steadily worked to be at the top of his chosen field - at least in his school. When the day came and he officially obtained his degree in astronavigation, Tivoq’vir applied to the SCC to help man the bridge of the SCCV Horizon and, much to his delight, was accepted. After saying goodbye to his Quya and the only planet he had ever known outside of books, Srom and holoprojections, he boarded a shuttle to lead him out of Federation space. What do you like about this character? While I haven’t interacted with every skrell that’s been on the Horizon so far, I think this character could be one of the youngest - the age isn’t precisely what I think is most interesting, but rather what their young age means. They’re not as reserved as older Skrell and jumped at the chance to leave Federation space to see the wider world (even at the expense of their SCS); they’re excitable and interested in meeting other species and cultures while representing the Federation as best they can manage despite being on the lower end of the SCS due to his (perhaps impulsive) decisions. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Much like I’ve said in my other applications so far, I’d rate myself on the higher end of the roleplay spectrum - in truth to the detriment of my mechanical capabilities. I enjoy investigating the stories of the characters I portray, building them into the universe even if that part of them never reaches anybody else. I will be honest in that when stressful/dangerous/combat situations roll around my style changes a lot, as situations like that are the least explored parts of my characters and I’m usually at a loss for what they would do. It’s definitely an area that I need to work on. Notes: Please let me know if there’s anything I need to expound on / if I am misunderstanding the lore as I’ve read it! Also, if there’s a better “degree” for Bridge Crewman that a young skrell might pursue please let me know, I struggled with that part a bit.
  7. Hey @Neinbox, I switched up the roster of characters I had listed. It didn't really make sense to have my old, mostly outdated, characters up there and I'm not sure why I didn't really realize that until just now.
  8. Oh this is sick. I don't play EMT but that is one snazzy design, especially compared to the default. Nice job!
  9. Sure! I went ahead and edited the original post. I was actually also figuring out where they would fit into in the future, and I was either considering medical or (surprise, surprise) botany - definitely trying to cater to their nurturing aspect. I also forgot to tag you, @Neinbox, sorry!
  10. BYOND Key: GlasgowSmiling Character Names: Leif Bilrost, Ka'Akaix'Viz C'thur, Nugyen Thanh, Fatima Hassan Species you are applying to play: Diona What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Exempt. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes! Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I’ve got a soft spot for plant-people, truth be told. I don’t see very many of these dudes walking about and I’d love to fill in that gap! I’ve got experience playing ‘unique’ personality types and I feel that that’s what’s needed for a Dionae. Their lore is also fascinating and their close ties to the Skrell offer fun and interesting roleplay opportunities. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The dionaea are gestalt-conscious creatures, with the exception being their most base form (the Diona nymph). When considering what one would do, it’s more akin to figuring out what all would do. One has to keep in mind that their thought processes are essentially a democratic discussion held at an incredibly fast pace (but still long enough to delay response, hence their ‘slow’-seeming nature). What’s also so unique about this race is that they are capable of surviving in just about any environment provided that they have access to, at the most basic level, radiation in some form or another. On top of their abundance of means for survival, they also show a remarkable capability for intelligence - even a single nymph is capable of the complex task of speech, or at the very least understanding it. Furthering the topic of language, Dionaea are capable of learning languages merely by ingesting the genetic material of a species; a feat no other known species in the Orion Spur are capable of doing. Their sheer capability of language-acquisition can be considered paramount to successful diplomacy and could be considered a large part in their success as a sapient species. From my understanding, however, in order to maintain some degree of fairness in regards to in-game mechanics, player Diona past the stage of nymph do not have access to this ability. While lore-wise they may also obtain vague memories or details about a person from sampling DNA, these are more akin to inane facts like a person's favorite food or musical artist. Character Name: Connie (nickname), Consonance of Children (ID name) Please provide a short backstory for this character Consonance of Children is a station-grown Dionae cyclops that was formed over time as their various caretakers cultivated more Nymphs. They remain aboard the station by choice, as they see the constant crew-changes as a never ending source of experience and companionship. In order to remain helpful, they have taken up work as a cargo technician - also seeing this as one of the better ways to maintain contact with everyone on the ship. After all, everyone needs something and the cargo bay is the place to get it. Connie’s name is the result of their individual Nymphs having been treated much like children by the various gardeners and hydroponicists that have inhabited the station. While each held a unique name relating to whatever they had fixated upon after ‘birth’, their combined name was decided upon because of their shared history in relation to the station. This has resulted in a Gestalt that holds an immense love and respect for the station as well as all of its inhabitants, whether they are personally acquainted or not. What do you like about this character? This is a character that holds a deeply personal connection to the Aurora, beyond it just being a place of work. To Connie, the Aurora is their home and the people working inside are their family. Although they may not have a very important job when compared to a doctor or a scientist, to them it’s the best thing they could ever wish for - they remain ever useful. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 8/10 - I would say I’ve improved a lot in the years while silently skulking about in the station. I always try to prioritize roleplay over mechanics, which is why I tend to avoid roles like the doctor or engineering, even though I do love atmos. Notes: Hopefully the “station-bred” thing is okay! I was on the wires about it for a while, so if I need to change it that’s totally fine. Also, if I need to flesh out the background more let me know! EDIT - 7.9.19 - I’ve expanded upon their unique characteristics as was requested, but I am on mobile so it probably looks like a larger amount of text than it really is on my end. Hope this helps showcase my understanding of the species! (I also corrected a lingering typo in regards to Connie’s name, shh)

    [RACE] Peleng

As someone who has like to think they've played the vaurcae fairly extensively and have enjoyed them (like, seriously. Legit my favorite race since the Kocasslani.), I will say: I would pick Peleng over Vaurcae any day of the week. This is fantastic and exactly why I chose to play Vaurcae in the first place: the push away from 'humanity'. This goes even farther and I love it. It doesn't mean much since I'm a fairly low-key player, but regardless this gets my seal of approval.
  12. BYOND Key: GlasgowSmiling Character Names: Cygnus Tomalescue, Marquis Spritz, Mirakini Fredrifili Species you are applying to play: The Vaurca What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Brown Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I’ve always had a love for anything insectile, especially when they’re of the social sort. I very much want to try to play as a Drone as I don’t believe we have anything quite as unique. Intelligent yes not self-aware, merely there to do its job and be done - there’s nothing like willing inedntured servitude. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Well, as a whole the species has quite a few options when it comes to what you want to play. Whether you want to be a bound Worker or an unbound Warrior or the variations between, you’ve got it all right here. There are many variations to how one might speak Common as a Vaurca, which gives both a unique difficulty and an interesting patternization. Character Name: Ka’Viax’Vith K’lax Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs: Ka’Viax’Vith K’lax is a Bound worker from the K’lax hive, sent as a furtherment of good relations with Nanotrasen to work upon their various stations and installations. They’ve been transferred between various places, always working in the darker parts to fix pipes and re-attaching any torn wiring. When required they are put to use in Atmospherics, much for the same reason - like most other Bound, they have no capability of working anyplace else. While treated as most Bound are, and unable to do much better than any other Bound, they are often commented as being a ‘competent worker’ by those humans that may not precisely understand what being Bound means for the individual. What do you like about this character?: I personally like that they are the ‘ultimate worker’ - wanting for nothing but to do what they were meant to. I feel they’ll also be fairly easy to play and I look forward to any ‘abuse’ that might be thrown my way. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 5/10 - I’ve been doing this for a while, but I know there are people that might be able to do it better. I used to rate myself higher but I’ve come to realized I was a fool. Notes: I’m really excited for this race and I sincerely hope they don’t go the way of the Kocasslani. I don’t know what I’ll do if I lose another race. 3 P.s. I know it said that Bound are meant for Civilian jobs, I had just read on the wiki that (theoretically) a Bound could be a fully-functioning Engineer, which is why I assumed atmospherics would be fine. If anyone would like me to change that, please let me know. Atmos isnt a make-it-or-break it.
  13. Sitting in a utilitarian room with steel walls is a medium-framed Kocasslani in light, billowy trousers and a black tanktop. He's sitting with his legs crossed on a floor pillow, a laptop in front of him - although the camera appears to be on the wall in front. Mirakini Fedrifili blinks some as the camera first turns on, as if surprised that it is even working. Per his usual fashion, he waves and the AskMe video feed truly begins. "Hi, a friend of mine on a previous shift told me about this thing." he types out onto his laptop, which brings letters up onto the screen. "I'm here to answer questions I guess - go for it." the words continue. In the background - on a steel table that appears part of the wall - are a series of close-combat weaponry, ranging from the old to the more recent. There's only one gun and it appears to have been taken apart to be cleaned.
