  1. I also don't see why someone needs to be banned because one of their characters are shit.

This was pretty much ruled an administrative matter (And not a DO matter) because it was NOT a decent character just being a butt and being stupid. It was a character that does not fit within the confines of the rules and established universe.

Why can't the administration just lift the ban and forbid the OP from playing Seon until they figure out how to write their backstory correctly?

This was intended to be an extremely short term ban, I expected Meta to simply look at the long lists of flaws that the community hurled at them, and then FIX SEON within a day or two at maximum. Which Meta has utterly failed at doing, as far as I can tell in this conversation. Frances (And other people) are attempting to establish intelligent discourse in-order to assist Meta in fixing their character, to which Meta responds with "I fixed it" while actually making no changes of significance and avoiding said intended intelligent discourse.

And While I may just use that method for further instances, this thread and the other threads about Seon have thoroughly convinced me that Meta is honestly not (yet) capable of creating a sane, reasonable and well-rounded character. Thusly, I don't believe any good would come of that, and so here we are, until Meta corrects his character, the ban will remain in place.

Edit: If a significant improvement is not made within the next day, I will be denying this appeal. Meta can then use his "What do you think of Seon?" thread to attempt to refine his character creation further in anticipation of the next appeal.

  2. Yeah, that's obviously fine with me. I might not personally agree with every aspect of the changes, but once the app is accepted, the Union doesn't personally belong to me anymore (Though I will continue to work on it), it belongs to the community. As long as the dynamic changes are kept within reason (I.E. no random honkmech invasions) and are aimed at making the universe more living, or increasing RP for the playerbase, it won't be a problem at all.

  3. AGE: 19

This allows you to have nothing but the most BASIC amount of knowledge ICly. I.E. you CANNOT completely do ANY scientific activity, even if taught ICly to do so.

    Wild looking eyes.

I don't know about you, but I've NEVER looked at someone and said "Huh, she certainly has wild eyes. And even if I did, I wouldn't write it down in an official employment record.

    -Subject is greatly genetically modified

-Thick black fur like hairs covering the body

-Appearance is very slightly inhuman and "animal" like.

-2440 - Has undergone extensive gene therapy to fix the illegal genetic experimentation effects.

This was the MAIN point I had against you. Minor genetic modification is acceptable, but to the point of her being covered in big-foot tier hair. No, you've clearly not really made ANY progress on this character. You seem intent on sticking to this character no matter what we tell you, and only look to make the most minor modifications possible. Which isn't acceptable at this point.

You also continue to take an excessively informal tone on your records. THESE ARE FORMAL RECORDS.

Waitress for Umbral Light 5 hours
Why....why would that even be added on there.

Top geneticist lab assistant/student for Korean bio technology industry 바이오 기술 baio gisul (Bio Tech) 4 years
For one, why would NT records have Hangul characters in their records, when they operate purely in Tau Ceti Basic? Also, your character started working in the biotech industry at...15?

(self taught, was being tested in BioTech)
What? Your character did weapon-testing in a biotechnical corporation? As a 15-19 year old? I just find that unbelievable
  4. last i checked they were banned for self-antagonizing which is actually against server rules

They took a temp ban for self-antagging, but later staff collectively decided that after multiple (4-6) times of being talked to about having a completely unbelievable, crude and horribly rounded character, that a ban was in-order if they did not improve. Two days later, after almost no changes being made. A perm ban was issued until Meta proves that they can create a character that is well-rounded, and believable.

  5. Okay I need some help

You asked for it. I'm not going to be gentle. (Note that this is my opinion as a player and does not constitute "This is what he needs to do")

You're trying to be unique, I get it. I really do, but you're doing it in such a horribly cringe-worthy, low-RP way. Instead of making a believable character with an interesting and complicated personality, well-thought out backstory and developed persona. You went with "genetically engineered snowflake", not the best move.

Here's a list of what I think needs to be changed.

    - Nineteen years old AND competant in multiple fields of science, plus has combat training and CQC training.

No. Just no. Your character isn't old enough to know a SINGLE field of college-level science, let alone the multiple fields that Seon was competant in. Also lose the combat training, she just has no reason to know that. As for CQC, that can be okay if she does a martial art as a hobby or something.

    - Genetically Engineered to only be 40% Human/Covered in thick black repulsive hair.

This is probably the most unbelievable thing to me. That level of engineering would leave Seon as a mentally damaged half lizard cripple sitting in a hospital bed and drooling all over herself in the best circumstance. Make her a normal Human, or give her a MODEST level of genetic engineering (To correct a genetic disease without going to extremes or something, but get rid of the hair. Jesus.)

    -Golden/Yellow eyes

Really not that big of a deal, but it's just a small little snowflake thing that adds to the pile.

    -Acting like an animal/being aggressive

This ties in with the genetic engineering thing. Again, I get what you are going for. You want her to be unique and different, but this just isn't the way to go about it.

    -Gunshot wounds at nineteen

Again, another possibly justifiable thing that just adds to the pile.

    -Experience

She's 19 years old, but you have 20 years of experience listed on her records.

    -Records

Another thing that's not a huge issue. But you take a REALLY informal tone on records, these are supposed to be the formal, NT made work records for your character and should be serious.

    -Flavor text

I too like writing long, detailed flavor texts. But you DO NOT need to include EVERY detail (I.E. leave the pubic hair out please.). Make it an objective description of your character that describes what they look like in a short, but detailed manner. Leave out "Thought forcing" I.E. "You think she looks wild" or "You think she's attractive" that sort of thing. Different people have different definitions of "Wild" or "attractive" so... just describe your character, and let them decide if you are wild or attractive.

I'll add anything else I think of later.

  6. Would you be interested in writing (or having others write) about the culture of the faction? Their way of life, their mentalities, what their political views actually are? You could also expand on the planets. Who's in them, why, what's their relationship to Tau Ceti and what kind of people from the faction could we expect to see on the Aurora? What do the planets look like?

Yup, I'd be thrilled to work on it/work with other people about it. I just didn't want to put a shit-tonne more work into it, just to have it denied and have wasted all that time. If it does get accepted, I'd love to hold an election thing like Tau-Ceti/Sol Alliance had in-order to allow player input

  7. Do all of the frontier stuffs already in place really have to change to accommodate this?

What makes it that unique, overall, to call for that?

I genuinely think that changing the population of the frontier is a rather insignificant change. You're bumping it up by 3 billion which objectively seems like a lot, but considering that even bumping it by this amount, would leave it with 5.9% the population of the Sol Alliance, with only a handful of systems in comparison, and a fraction of the power.

I'd be fine with leaving the frontier's population as-is, IF you guys think you can implement this in a way that wont render it as a total backwater with failing industry, starving people and no influence anywhere. But, if you're just going to leave the population as-is and turn it into another shitty group of colonies, I'd just prefer it not to be added at all.

I also don't understand how they could have supported the Sol Alliance when the Sol Alliances' entire point for the conflict was to remain in charge of all the human colonies. How complex of a game was being played?

I was under the impression that after the war, there was no way the Sol Alliance lost ALL of their colonial territories. It seems like they would've managed to hold onto at-least a handful of systems that would be badly positioned (i.E. completely surrounded by coalition systems) and would be virtually impossible/not worth it to defend. The lore used to be (Correct me if this has been changed) that the Sol Alliance withdrew from a bunch of colonies after the war because they were A. Simmering with independent sentiment, and B. just not worth the effort to hold anymore.

In today's time, 2457, that would lead to the Rimworlds' independence being seen as 'cheating' by the frontier factions that actually fought for their own freedom, and the Alliance wouldn't even consider it legitimate. Which, I admit, is a rather interesting situation to be in.

That certainly would be interesting! Sounds good to me.

  8. Would you object to pushing this faction to the frontier?

If you'll adjust the population of the frontier to allow for their more developed state, sure I'd have no problem with it. But I just really don't want them to be relegated to another poverty-stricken bunch of systems. I wanted to create a sustainable state, with a respectable population and industrial base (While still be internally moderated by ineffective economic policies.) They're not intended to be anywhere near as powerful as the Sol Alliance, but I do want them to be one of the (if not the) most organized/stable Frontier states.

with the "Frontier" being where all the independents go.

Whoops, you guys -just- changed this. When I wrote this originally, it was written that the Sol Alliance's direct control dropped off part-way through the mid-colonies.

This isn't saying the colonies have to be poor and malnourished, but to fit the theme of the thing, that would be something to think about

Like I said above, I want this to be a stable, developed state (At Least in the core systems) I'm perfectly happy with making their colonies MUCH rougher however, that's a perfectly reasonable request.

Did this state arise from the collapse of the Coalition of Colonies, or did it rise up along-side that old Anti-Alliance Alliance, or sometime after it?

My intention, was for the Rimworlds Union to NOT be directly antagonistic towards the Sol Alliance. They were not part of the Coalition of Colonies, and intentionally sat out of the colonial war. They'd already built up a noticeable industrial base and were populated quite heavily for the region, and generally speaking doing quite well for themselves. The founding systems nominally supported the SA to avoid SA intervention in their territory, while ideologically supporting the Coalition of Colonies strongly (Though one of two systems might've strongly supported either side). Though they provided no military/logistical support to the coalition. Politically, I'd say they're space-Switzerland.

  10. Type (e.g. Planet, Faction, System): Faction

    Founding/Settlement Date (if applicable): 2297

    Region of Space: Mid-Outer Colonies

    Long Description:

    General

The Union of Rimward Systems (URS) commonly referred to as the Rim Union, or sometimes The Union. Is a federation of 18 founding member states, along with 24 systems that were settled after its formation. The Rimward systems is peculiar in that it legally has three capitals, the legislative capital of Speranza on Garibaldi, the executive capital of Anklan on Wismar, and the judicial capital of Rochell on Étoile-Automne. The URS is located roughly straddling the border between the Mid-colonies and the outer-colonies, with the oldest colony Speranza sitting 197 LY away from Sol. Controlling 42 star systems (Of which 23 have populations in the tens of millions or higher), with a total population of around 3.5 Billion the Union of Rimward Systems is a regional power in the outer colonies.

Culturally, the URS is dominated by the slight majority of Franco-Italo-German settlers which were the first Humans to settle in the region. The URS motto is “Animus in consulendo liber” or Free spirit to decide.

    Economics

The Rim Union possess a sizeable economy and industrial base which is capable of producing manufactured goods of high quality, however ineffective centralized policies have stymied opportunity for economic and industrial growth and have at times let to systematic unemployment and large-scale public discontent in the Union’s core systems. The autonomous outer systems have largely avoided this fate by (for the most part) maintaining their responsible self-government. The Union economy is somewhat diversified, being largely dominated by three major activities. The export of raw materials (Including plasma extracted by Einstein Engines), the export of consumer goods to the frontier/outer colonies and a burgeoning armament industry which accounts for a significant amount of the weaponry exports into the frontier and outer colonies.

This moderate prosperity is thinly spread out over the entirety of the Union, with the largest share of the industrialization being focused on the initial 18 systems settled in the region. Those being the Scoperta, Passi, Approdo, Lesath , Destino, Vanto, Fraternité, Bourbon, Valous, Voyage, Nouveau-Limousine, Ostal, Neue Trier, Bismark, Wilhelm, Allianz, Ostfriesland and Oase Systems.

    Politics

The Union of Rimward Systems is intended to operate as a loosely centralised federal democracy, inspired by the Sol Alliance itself (though with significantly less executive power). In reality, the Union acts as a federacy, with the core 18 words being under the direct rule of the Protector of the Rimward Systems, while the 24 colony-worlds are essentially autonomous with limited oversight.

Founded on March 15th 2297 as the result of a full decade of diplomatic negotiation between the original 18 systems, the Rim Union came into being as a direct result of the Sol Alliance withdraw, and the violent destabilization of the newly freed systems that followed. After more than a century, the Union has become notably more centralised in structure, and has even expanded to begin colonising surrounding systems as territorial states.

    Legislature

The legislative structure of the Union is located in the city of Speranza, Garibaldi in the Scoperta System. The Union legislature is a tricameral institution, consisting of the council of systems, the federal assembly and the colonial assembly. The Council of Systems acts as the Union’s upper house, and has a total of 18 voting counselors from the founding systems, along with 24 non-voting observers from the colonies. Counselors are individually elected on their planet of origin by popular election to serve a single ten year term. There are only two restrictions on running for Counselor, the candidate must be at least twenty years of age, and the candidate must not have been a counselor before. The council of systems acts to verify bills passed by the federal assembly and colonial assembly in addition to passing budgets every year.

The Federal Assembly is the equivalent of a lower house in the Union and is made up of 168 voting assemblymen (4 per world) Assemblymen, much like senators are elected by popular vote, but can serve up to three four year terms before they become ineligible. A candidate must be eighteen years of age, and have never served in the council of systems or colonial assembly. The vast majority of bills passed by the assembly in recent memory have been either economic regulation or social welfare related.

The most restricted of the three houses is the colonial assembly. The colonial assembly’s primary purpose is vote if laws passed by the two other houses will apply to the colonies. However, the assembly also maintains the ability to propose bills that will only be effective in the colonies (These bills still have to be verified by the council of systems). Unlike the other two houses, the colonial assembly has no legalistic restrictions for those who wish to run as candidates. This has led to some strange situations, not least of which being a twelve year old almost being elected to office.

    Executive

The executive branch of the Union’s government consists of the Protector (Full title “Protector of the Rimward systems and her colonies”) and his or her cabinet. The Protector is nominated by popular vote in both the colonies and founding worlds, but has to be confirmed by the majority of the council of systems. While originally an extremely limited role that existed for little other than commanding the Defense Forces, providing decisive leadership during times of emergencies and otherwise being a central figure around which the URS might rally. The Protector’s role has expanded dramatically in the last century, to the point that the protector has usurped much of the autonomy of the founding worlds, turning the core of the rimworlds something of an authoritarian republic.

  11. An issue I want to bring up is that very few players currently have an incentive to care about colonies.

I know a select few who have characters who come from a colonist background, but for the most part, almost everyone is running with a Biesel/Sol background. Colonies don't have much hold in the "public" lore and getting people to root for them in their current state would be pretty difficult.

As far as I'm concerned, all you're doing is highlighting further issues with the lore. Players don't have colonial characters, because the Lore-team has proven universally dreadful at providing anything besides "oh, there's colonies out there...somewhere". The twin exceptions to this being Skull's child (The Eridani Federation) and Erik's project (The Republic of Elyra) which themselves are barely detailed.

There are two solutions to this. One would be to give colonies more importance, but it serves as a fluff background for characters as best

The tone I'm receiving off of this bothers me so much, and seems to personify the apathy that I've come to expect of the lore team as of late. I'm proposing a project that would deepen the lore, make the universe in-which we base our Roleplaying experience a more realistic, meaningful and living environment. And instead of "How can we do this? How can we make it better!" you respond with, "Well. It's only background anyway"

given that nobody currently residing in a colony would be reasonably expected to come work on the Aurora every day.

Nor would anyone currently residing on the planets of Sol, Epsilon Eridani, or Jedeed Isfahan. So, I'm really not getting your point here.

The other option would be to start a war between parties we actually care about (TC and Sol?)

Given that TC is a single system that only exists because NT props them up. and is surrounded on all sides by the Sol Alliance. Which has the 2nd most powerful navy in known space (And is allied with the nation with the 1st most powerful navy.) I...don't think that is a believable scenario.

Edit: It would also be a lot easier to justify military presence in Biesel (and specifically on the Aurora) if TC was involved, seeing as the station is much closer to Biesel than to Sol affairs.

You do realise that Tau Ceti is smack-dab in the center of the Sol Alliance? It's literally just a bubble of independent space completely surrounded on all sides by the Sol Alliance. So..... Not that hard to conceive of the Alliance reoccupying the system, since lore-wise. A lot of people weren't super happy with their independence anyway.

  12. Just bringing up my suggestion that had overwhelmingly positive support last time. Since JB and the lore-team seem to have forgotten that they said they'd implement it. Original Thread : (http://aurorastation.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=1533)

This is slated to be run once the big work on the wiki is done. Consider... The middle of next month, at the earliest, with end of next month at the latest. This is a big undertaking.

    Soo.....yeah.

Also note that the internal politics of the SA have changed since i made this last, so ignore the parts about Salvatore and the Oath party.

  13. Name of party: Social Democratic Alliance of Tau Ceti

Candidate for President in the upcoming election: Aamina Al-Harthi

Brief description of the candidate: The only child of a mining family from New Gibson, Aamina struggled for much of her early adulthood to pay for a university-level education until finally receiving a scholarship from a NGO funded by the Sol-Alliance based Worker's Party. After which she majored in Political Science and Political Theory, before returning to New Gibson and being elected to a local council. Shortly after, in collaboration with numerous other left-leaning politicians/activists on New Gibson, Aamina founded the Social Democratic Party of New Gibson, which later fused with similar parties on Biesel to form the Social Democratic Alliance of Tau Ceti. She has since won election into the Tau Ceti senate twice on her aggressively anti-megacorp, left-wing platform. She is 42 years of age.

Who are the party's biggest financial backers?: Largely private donors, along with significant contributions from the Worker's Party of the Sol Alliance. Large corporate donations are staunchly rejected

What is its opinion on Nanotrasen's level of influence in Tau Ceti?: The Social Democratic Alliance has mixed views on Nanotrasen, while the party itself is heavily anti-megacorporation. Many within the party have softer views on Nanotrasen, due to the massive expenditure NT has put into the system's infrastructure, and how many jobs NT provides system-wide. Though Aamina herself is notably anti-NT, to the point of proposing breaking up in-system NT assets due to their near monopoly on Tau-Ceti commerce.

How does the party view the non-human minorities? (Unathi, Tajaran, synthetics): The Alliance, and Aamina herself are pro-Xeno and Pro-IPC (Due to IPCs being sentient beings), however they are fiercely against the proliferation of Cyborg and AI technology due to their tendency to replace sentient workers. They are also demanding higher wages for Xenos in-order to prevent Human jobs being lost to them simply because of lower pay.

Is the party friendly to the Sol Alliance?: The SDATC has a largely positive view of the Sol Alliance. Though recently relations have taken a dip due to the election of the ATLAS-GAIA coalition.

What other information about the party do you want to include?: While tremendously Pro-Xeno rights, the Party is against further Xeno immigration, which due to the situation on Ahdomai has increased dramatically. This is justified by the party as a need to focus on the needs of Tau-Ceti denizens before assisting others.

  14. I'm going to have to say -1

Coolbc himself seems like a decent enough guy. But staff have had to talk to him, repeatedly about making believable characters (Plus he also got reported to DOs), I'm not opposed to him becoming head-staff in the future. But I just, don't want another one of his ridiculous, unbelievable and unnecessarily overly educated (5 PH.Ds, 5 Masters, 8 Bachelors) characters in a head of staff position. If he works on this, and makes a decent character, then yeah sure! but not right now.

  15. BYOND Key: Dea Tacita

Character Names: Ilo Nassau-Schonburg-Nassau-Este, Vaella Graham, Voen Salos, Voel Neiran, Dusa Suzdadeni, Etain-Nora Mac Cnaimhin, Keiran L'os

Species you are applying to play: Vaurca

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Probably just brown

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Sure have

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race: While initially I didn't really have a preference towards or against the Vaurca, I've built up an interest over time as the hype within the community for the species has built up. Mainly, my interest is because I've pretty much played all the other species that I'm interested in to any extent. For the most part, I'm just interested in the Vaurca as an avenue to try new things RP wise.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Playing as either Unbound or Bound is a pretty different thing than an average Human. Given that bound are basically organic borgs (Closest equivalent but not exactly) while unbound are either extremely curious and want to learn about the world, or are very loathing of the experience they've been forced into via raffle. Giving pretty unique avenues of RP for me to try out

    Character Name: Ka'Akaix'Fiktz Vess'ex

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

Curiosity could accurately be said to be the defining trait of Ka'Akaix'Fiktz. For they are one of the few who gave up their VR paradise willingly, entering into the mortal world, not saddened by the loss of paradise. But enthused by the new world around them, and the new experiences that awaited them in this new and wonderful life. Shortly after entering into the world, contact was made with Humanity by the Zo'ra, and Fiktz much like the rest of their hive rapidly became obsessed with this new species.

Fiktz was among the first of the workers to be sent into Human space to learn about the object of Vess'ex's obsession. Embarking upon their journey with much enthusiasm, Fiktz would be assigned to join Nanotrasen as a part of the Zo'ra (And their client Hive's) trade/exchange program.

What do you like about this character? I honestly really like the idea of an extremely curious space bug. It just seems a mix of being a bit silly with something so... not cute, being adorably curious about everything human, and interesting with the whole new experience.

How would you rate your role-playing ability? I've been told I'm quite good. But I'd personally say like 7-8/10?

    Notes:

  16. So. I was working on trying to get an orange Skrell, right?

Well Skrells are blue by default. And so I need to tweak the color through unexpected colors to get what I want, and even then it's way too pale.

The alien sprites could probably benefit from at LEAST being color neutral, if not white.

We're updating to the newest BS-12 build when the new map comes out. They've already done this, so it seems like unnecessary work to port it here, only to port back over there. Also Skrell are green by default, not blue (Skrell is also plural, so Skrells is technically incorrect just sayin')

  17. she was encouraged to take the same authoritative attitude when talking to people in PMs

Thundy was told this (apparently) due to her "Dancing around the issue" with someone who we had definite evidence of breaking the rules, in addition to just really letting the person talk circles around her. Also, note that "Be assertive" (which we told her specifically in-regards to when you have definite evidence of a rule-break) does not translate into "Be an impersonal dick to everyone, always."
