1. Here are some quick tips to not get fucked over by sec/command/anyone with hands

    1. First borg; good idea to be science/engineering/medical, why? More stuff you can do to disrupt (science can analyse the armory weapons, especially the ion rifle, engineering can disassemble the robotic control console, medical and science can borg)

    2. Get a borg on medical and one for science, reason is simple; Your medical bot can say the dead body is 'MMI" or DNC and lobotomize em, science can place them in a mmi and add more to the collective.

  2. Can someone provide like a quick how-to guide for mapping in byond? (preferably this server so I can make suggestions with images)

    Like is it hard? Does it require straight coding and other biz? Or is byond merciful and there is a easy way to do it?

  3. Medical

    Scan = place patient in body scanner

    Clone = check corpse if it is DNC, if not, preform the cloning procedures

    MIF = Mental Interface Failure, happens when ghost does not enter body

    DNC = Do Not Clone

    Security

    'Brig' = the act of processing someone in processing and placing in a cell

    'get suited' = getting a void suit for EVA

    Engineering

    vented = Area is depressurized

    Breach = area has a hole that leads to open space

    'Eject the core!1!1' = When SM is about to explode, this means to open the core outer shutter and eject the core

    SM = Supermatter/Supermatter engine

  4. What about if the HoP isn't at round start, and we don't have one? These seems like a good idea in concept, but as I see it, we have many ways to request assistance for newcomers/first day on a job. We have the wiki,ooc,looc,ahelps,forum,asking ic, and maybe some others.

    Overall this is way too dependent on the HoP actually being present and if they want to give an orientation they can do it themselves via a announcement or helping assistants get situated.

  5. Well, it’s not like O.R.B. actually uses flash... ever. He hates the thing for the ten-ish seconds it immobilizes him to such a degree he never uses his own. Alternative story: because I like my help stun-prods to give chance to antags and whatnot.

    Speaking of which; in light of this flash-nerf (except for poor borgs), will the massive cell energy cost of taser and, especially, baton be lowered to compensate?

    Maybe? I'm half on half on this. While I feel for borgs that want to be useful, secborgs tend to be the most volatile thing to touch in regards to how their energy reserves can make or break things.

    Yeah for sec bots the basic power cell is cancer. One single prod with stun stick removes 10% of battery, effectively forcing sec bots to flash meme or risk suddenly running out of power.

  6. I see no reason to rework firing pins, order things from cargo for once, it is SO boring to be in cargo after warehouse is sorted because no one ever needs anything. Please start using cargo more, I beg of you.

  7. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

    Why does this moment deserve a spot in the Hall Of Fame?: dead hour always produces the most vividly strange content appropriate to ss13. it is funny. you had to be there.

    Are you certain we are all laughing together are not shaming someone?: i laugh at you, garn. i laugh at you.

    Final thoughts/anything you want to add?: especially since garn banned discussion of traps in general. i will never forgive that.

    These are not paragraphs..... Also the first answer needs lots of rework, why does THIS example SPECIFICALLY should be in the hall of fame.

  8. I noticed time and time again that heads of staff usually leave their animals in their cage/office, and neglect them until they die of hunger (if it gets that far in round, those animals take a small eternity to die). I doubt that Biesel allows people to simply ignore their animals to starvation and let them get away with it, so why can NanoTrasen staff do so?

    My suggestion is to add the following regulation to corporate regulations (not final edition obviously, just how I think the regulation should be);

    i[iNSERT NUMBER HERE] Animal Negligence

    Description: To inflict unnecessary suffering or harm upon animals without malicious intent.

    Notes: Owners ignoring the basic necessaries of life for the animal falls under this. The person who bought the animal or has assigned the animal is classified as the 'owner'. The Owner can transfer ownership of the animal with a 'equipment requisition' form. Animals who are used for food is a grey area, as long as they are not overtly caused pain in the process. Monkeys appropriately used for experiments or well-being (e.g Genetics, Virology, etc.) don't count.

    First Offense: 3 minutes and/or paying for the treatment/replacement of the animal in question

    Second Offense: up to 7 minutes and/or treatment/replacement of the animal in question, all animals under care of individual will be turned over to cargo for selling.

    Fine: 200 credits

    This regulation will allow people to be punished for ignoring animals they purchased/assigned to care for. Heads of staff should not be allowed to simply ignore the pets they are assigned to care for.

  9. ParadoxSpace pretty sure this thread violates one suggestion per thread

    I like 1 but the others I do not like, manifest can only be seen via PDA and you can add yourself via records

    as for announcements, I miss half of them, as long as T-coms is up you will usually just glance it and go about your business.

  10. We already have regulations against this and policies.

    For interfering for arrest you get effected by the 'aiding a criminal' policy and get tried for the SAME crime.

    For any other interference (like fudging up a crime scene) it is sabotage or vandalism.

    and if you refuse a warrant....you are either going to get flashed, batoned, or simply cuffed, and resistance will become resisting arrest.

    overall, this is not needed (demotion on a 2nd offense is pretty darn major mate.) and we already have stuff that deals with this just fine.

  11. I'd like to see a longer biography before I provide additional feedback on the contents of the app itself - the writing portion is important for seeing your ability to create realistic characters and especially a character fit to be a Head of Staff (part of the exercise), as well I think all the questions after the biography could use some beefier answers.

    As well - despite knowing you from the community, I've never seen any of your characters, are we in different timezones or did you recently retire some of your characters?

    1. I attempted to fix the problem, please look at it again and see how it is.

    2. Perhaps, I used to play as Ben Smith (Sec. Officer) and sometimes play as L.O.S.S (QM), I live in Pennsylvania so that's EST (I think?) so I am not sure if I am in your timezone or not.

  12. BYOND key: ben10083

    Character names: BEAKER, Ben Smith, B.O.B, B.O.B 2.0 (AI), I-AN, L.O.S.S, S.A.M, SE-B.

    How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Around 2-3 years

    Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I really want to play as a IA Agent.

    Why did you come to Aurora?: I enjoy HRP things, and this server is perfect for it, and the community is very active.

    Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yes.

    Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

    Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is people acting how they (usually) would not act themselves and in a (usually) fictional enviroment, roleplay should allow people to act the way they usually do not and allows people to interact with people who have the same interests as them.

    What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: The Heads of Staff are responsible for making sure the round is enjoyable to as many people as possible, the best thing I can think of is a example I see many times; Heads of Staff refusing to call ERT and/or call evac when antags are present. This example shows how the Head of Staff allows the round to continue and be more enjoyable, with the crew actively helping security fight the antags, and the antags being able to fairly fight the opposition. Another example is a Head of Staff having their department engage in projects (CE ordering engineering to build stuff on 2nd floor.) and other things to keep people engaged in the round.

    What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: White listed players are held at a higher standards since they are trusted with one of the most powerful IC jobs in the game. They are expected to know more about their department then others and are supposed to be the best source of information regarding their department and jobs (like asking how to do telescience).

    Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions.

    Character name: B.E.N (Bureaucratic Enforcement with No bias)(Not my best acronym but I am not the creative type)

    Character age: 5

    Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Built in the year 2455, the B.E.N model was designed to be a machine that could effectively do Bureaucratic duties without bias. The machine was sold to Hephaestus Industries and was put to work as a Internal Affairs Agent on the HRS Lemnos. The robot quickly went to work and kept a close eye on the other workers there and rooted out many that did not preform to the best of the company's interest. B.E.N quickly gained reputation and a cold IA Agent that rarely talked to others about anything that wasn't about work, and when it had free time it usually was seen either working on upcoming audits or preparing forms. The only people B.E.N really communicated with was the other IA agents with it, and even then it was not much. B.E.N kept to itself mostly, usually only talking to others if it involved it's job. after 4 years of working at the HRS Lemnos, NanoTrasen bought B.E.N and reprogrammed it with their regulations and policies. Soon after it was sent to the NSS Redemption to work as a IA Agent. The unit soon got used to it's station and it began it's duties, and after a year it was transferred to the NSS Aurora.

    What do you like about this character?: This unit never underestimated the power of paperwork, and uses it to it's full advantage to do it's job. B.E.N's attitude will be enjoyable to RP (at least for me) and it's focus on work gives it plenty to do. B.E.N is a character that wants to see a problem from every angle before it comes to a solution, and that trait I enjoy. B.E.N is also a workaholic, which I will find enjoyable to play out.

    What do you dislike about this character?: B.E.N's overall focus on logic instead of emotion when it comes to decision making makes it appear cold and emotionless to others, so talking with others will be avoided usually. B.E.N is nitpicky when it comes to audits and other investigation, noting even the smallest transgressions on it's reports.

    What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: B.E.N was quite literally built for the job, and the way it see's situations is one without bias or other pesky things like 'emotions' that others have interfere with their decisions. B.E.N will always keep an eye on the departments to ensure everything is going to NanoTrasen's intentions and to ensure everything is working smoothly.

    Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions.

    How would you rate your own roleplaying?: In times of things happening fast paced or in a fight I may forget my roleplay momentarily, but I feel that overall my roleplay abilities are slowly improving. I have sometimes made mistakes involving my RP, and I know for a fact I still have some stuff to improve, but overall if I would rank my roleplaying a 6.9/10

    Extra notes: Many of the characters I listed likely never been seen by others, I usually play only as B.O.B, SE-B, I-AN, and a drone (yes, I sometimes play as a drone whole round, it is more fun than you think.)

  13. Hey I was B.O.B the sec borg at the medical incident, let me explain what happened in detail;

    Ok so we were requested to watch the 'carp hunters' at medical where the CE was. The CE was trying to permit them to hunt and was warning them about keeping contraband at least out of plain sight or security may arrest them for contraband. I started to RP about following programming when I saw 'Doom' with a chain sword and other items.

    I went into my usual "Contraband detected" in which the CE quick ordered the visitors to stow the contraband away and was about to ask me to stand down (he told me "wait" and was typing the next sentence). Then out of NOWHERE Doom ran into maint. I started to chase after him (I had a VTEC module so I could keep up, props to robotics), and cornered him the first time. All he said was "How did you find me?" and then started coming towards me. I radio'd in for backup when he ran past me and tried AGAIN to run (keep in mind I had a flash and a stun baton and would likely be able to detain him if I wanted). This entailed a 2 minute chase which ended in him hiding in a locker and me quickly finding him.

    Once AGAIN he only said "How did you find me?!" and then tried to move the locker on me and close it, I move away from it and once again radio'd in my position and requested backup. He then starts running again, and this time I lose him. The other 'hunters' tell us that Doom is on his own and that we can arrest them. The rest of the round entails trying to find Doom (props to the other hunters, you did some good rp given the circumstances) and in the end at the 2 hour mark the shuttle was called and Doom ended up being killed (by the hunters I think).

    Overall his actions compromised his entire team's actions and resulted in a mediocre round which besides the maint chase security had little interaction with the raider crew (excluding the whole manhunt for Doom which one of them even let us on the ship to try to locate him.).
