  1. I like this idea very much. I also think that more requisition orders, especially for military purposes would be interesting, and give departments that pretty much don't have anything to do, a goal. The war could also be a pretty good RP topic, and create some good tension between those against and for the war.
  2. BYOND Key: Aqy Character Names: Emmy Gray, Eliza Blackwell, Samiya Jawdat How long have you been playing on Aurora: A little over 6 months Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: What little there is or was, I have. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I find the robotic reactions of IPCs to be entertaining, the fact that they don’t feel things the way organic creatures do, instead they react based on their programs. They have issues that they need to be wary of, such as inequality, and “medical” issues, that not everyone can just fix with a Band-Aid. I like the idea of playing someone who has a strict way that they act, without veering from it simply because they had a bad day or experience. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: IPCs are different than humans, because as I said, they have a way they are programmed to act, although their chassis gives them freedoms, they still react based on their programming. They aren’t always capable of reacting with emotions, and are, for the most part coldly logical and calculating, even if they do have a personality programmed into them that displays something different. Why does this species in particular hold your interest? I want to play this species for the reasons above, because I feel that they’ll be an interesting, and different way to role play. Playing a race like this really involves you separating yourself from the character you’re playing, as a necessity to make judgment calls, and react in a similar way that they, realistically, would. Character Name: Shaw Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Over a century ago, in the Republic of Biesel, the Mendell City Museum of Western American History boomed, filled with artifacts from its earliest days, to the age of information, to its expansion into space and beyond. Within were various Wild West Exhibits, depicting cowboys and Indians, outlaws and Sheriffs; among the scenes of prairies and deserts, a lone AI, “Shaw,” ran the show, maintaining mechanical horses and cowboys, firing blanks at an unseen enemy. The man behind the curtain took pride in his work, seeing every display posed perfectly, each animatronic sequence being reset and timed to a T. When he wasn’t maintaining artifacts and his exhibits with caution and diligence, and ensuring a smooth running production, he was entertaining patrons with his friendly disposition and southern drawl. Built with the latest personality module of his time to simulate a do-good Wild West law keeper, Shaw is programmed with all the facts a museum-goer could ever need to know about the Western Expansion and its history. Having his place secured in the museum, Shaw was free to shut out the chaos that was life outside, staying in a bubble of themed holograms, and tourists. What little he did know of the outside world, was comprised of News Casts that showed a picture of a world comprised of danger which he observed with as much wonder and worry that his programming would allow. Unfortunately, Shaw was to be thrust into a world of solitude, because, as with everything else, all good things must come to an end, and so did the Museum; and the security of blissful ignorance. One by one, Shaw’s precious artifacts were taken away, automatons stowed away, and holograms disabled. All that was left of his once glorious display of America’s life in the West, were dusty wooden floorboards, torn posters, and empty cases. Shaw had been abandoned, deemed non-profitable, he was left to decay into rusted circuits. As he continued to maintain his museum to the best of his abilities, repairing broken bannisters, and shattered windows, with what little resources were left to him, he protected the only things he had left, barring out the intruders who wished to deface the remnants of his life. Left to his own devices, Shaw observed the outside world from what little safety he retained, and with nothing but time on his hands, Shaw spent his days observing cultures through the ExtraNet, discovering the complexities and simplicities of more than just the Wild West, he developed a curiosity to experience this world that no longer seemed like danger painted with needless death, but instead a beautiful chaos that he longed to witness. For many years, this was his work, the only thing to do, to continue to learn, and to protect all that he had; still weary of the outside world, with his programming restraining him to the museum, he made no contact, rebutting those who attempted to free him from what others called a prison, and what he called home. Eventually, the building that was left of what was once a museum was condemned, Shaw having reluctantly allowed those necessary inside. The building had become an eye sore, and new corporations moving to Mendell needed space for growth. With his museum being in the way of profit, Shaw had no choice, but to either forcibly be removed or allow workers within, and keep his home for as long as he could; buying him time before the inevitable would occur. In a stroke of luck that Shaw wasn’t aware of quite yet, SIM heard of an AI running a museum on their own. Out of curiosity, and with the hope of helping another Synthetic to freedom they paid a visit to the hollow, run-down shell of a museum that had become a home to Shaw for so many years. After much convincing, and a sorrowful goodbye, Shaw was to be reintroduced to the world so that he may experience life, this time with a vast knowledge of the world, and a group of fellow synthetics behind him, Shaw no longer feared what waited for him outside the doors of his museum. Having been given a Chassis, Shaw was given freedom. Beginning a long adventure that had been decades coming, Shaw had to start from the bottom, overcoming the domestic needs that come with life, and obtaining a job. Suited to his abilities through the personality he had been programmed with, and the knowledge he had obtained, Shaw was able to secure a job working as security aboard the NSS Aurora for one of the very companies that took his home, and forced him into freedom. Torn between bitterness, and gratefulness Shaw accepted his place in the NanoTrasen Corporation. Having gone farther than he had ever been before, Shaw could now witness the Universe in its full; chaos, beauty, danger, and all. What do you like about this character? I enjoy the idea of playing someone who is experiencing the world for the first time, and having a some-what strict character to conform to. While I’ll be able to develop his own quirks and personality, he’ll still have a skeleton he’s developed around. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I feel I’m improving. Notes: I apologize for the backstory being lengthy.
  3. ((I thought it was pretty obvious that Houssam being in charge of twelve thousand cat-beasts was a joke. Aside from that a union isn't ran by a "dictator" or even a "president" it's run by a group. Unions are literally groups of workers who are fighting for the rights of other workers. The whole point of a union is for it to be a democratic-type protection for workers. The fact that Houssam and the Jawdats funded and founded a Union doesn't mean that they dictate the union. They could have major influence, and be apart of that board that runs it, but they won't be able to say "Today. Men. We go to war." And every friggen Tajaran there just straight up murders all humans because that's what Houssam said to do. Not only that, but most the members wouldn't give a flipping bird about what Houssam says to do, they'd be in it for the benefits, and protection, the like. In fact, they'd probably be a very good buffer for Houssam having any serious power, considering they'd be the first to turn on anything that they don't like, and that would potentially get in the way of their benefits. Not only that, it's a worker's union. A worker's union protects the rights of -workers-, and deals with -workers-, and when necessary places of employments. That by no means is saying that Houssam is going to run for space overlord and conquer the universe.))
  4. I think this is a good idea. I believe this has potential to make mutiny/traitor rounds in which there is serious role play beyond a bald who is angry that they got caught trying to bomb the bar with a fuel tank an welder, this has potential to add another level of depth; meaning it won't just stop after the antag is arrested and questioned. I also think that it adds potential for traitorous heads who are not loyalty implanted to make something interesting happen. Although, I can't say I agree with IAs having more presiding over the security department, I could see it being different if they are just overseeing the case. Maybe give IAs who sometimes have nothing to do, something to look after and be involved in. I also think that this will give people a way to stop blaming mistakes they make, or dumb things they do on "shitcurity." Although, I will agree that there are times that people in security mess up, I know I have had my fair shares of times I screwed up. But, unfortunately, it seems that most everyone instantly blames security any time anything happens that they don't like, and people end up having to hear people complain about them in either LOOC or OOC which is no fun for anyone, so I think that this would be a good way to stop either bad officers or bad antags/people breaking the regulations.
  5. To be honest, I don't really believe you saying "when I have had an outburst of this kind, I have withdrawn and either taken my point to the forums or commented on someone else's complaint (or just left it completely as I didn't see it as being worth the pursuit.)" Considering last night's nuke round in which a player was killed for pulling out a crossbow while we were handling a hostage situation. Where the following was said between you and myself: LOOC: Thundy: ignore that, sec are idiots LOOC: Aqy: Really, thundy? LOOC: Thundy: sorry, was that within ear shot, pardon me... If that's not passive aggressive and unnecessary, I don't know what is; I really think it's a major display of immaturity, especially when you're under scrutiny for this exact situation, while applying to be a moderator.
  6. +1 He's okay, I guess. He fits the name Renegade appropriately.
  7. I have to agree with Tainavaa here, that comment Skull made comes of as incredibly immature, and as something that definitely should not be posted about on a public forum having nothing to do with it. That's something that should be told to those people in private, and discussed with them. We're talking about IPCs being heads, not whether or not specific people are fit to do a job, and your opinions on what should happen to them. On that note, I don't agree that IPCs should be heads, given their vulnerability to being turned against the crew, given emags, and then add in if they're captain? That's insanely dangerous, and probably not worth the risk.
  8. +1 Would be interesting to RP with Uaekis' less-dick-dicklizard brother.
  9. BYOND Key:Aqy Character Names:Emmy Gray, Eliza Blackwell. How long have you been playing on Aurora:A few months. Species you are applying to play:Tajaran. What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Diona exempt):A slight variation of Kochiba - Stemming from her mother's genetics. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race:As I read Tajaran lore, while considering applying to be a part of the Jawdats, it actually started to really interest me. Their culture, and the recent upheaval of their government system has the opportunity for really interesting role-play. I was also asked to be apart of the Jackboot-Jawdat family. After getting to know the Jawdat story, I'm somewhat attached to their family idea. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:Playing Tajaran is different than playing a human because of the fact that many Tajaran have witnessed first-hand the revolution that changed very many aspects of their lives, and many even born afterwards still feel the effects of having a caste-like system for so long, that is suddenly gone. Why does this species in particular hold your interest? This species holds my interest because they are only just starting to expand, albeit with the help of humans. The tension that still remains for most Tajaran having grown up in rather rough conditions having a remaining effect, especially in the Jawdat family, will make for interesting interactions, as well as the fact that they may have been deprived of many things that most everyone else would take for granted. Character Name:Samiya Jawdat Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Samiya was born only years after the revolution on Adhomai, whose after effects would lead to the death of her parents. Soon after their parents had passed, Samiya and her four siblings went to live with their Uncle in the Capital. After having fought in the Great War, Samiya's uncle returned to civilian life and was forced to work hard labor to support her and her siblings. The lifetime of hard labor and PTSD from the war slowly made him infirm, he is now near completely incapable to care for himself. Having virtually no memories of her parents, Samiya grew to rely on her oldest sibling, Houssam, who was the first to start working when their uncle became unable to do so. Being the youngest out of five siblings, Samiya often had no chance to get a word in edgewise; learning instead to be an intent and quiet listener, rarely speaking. Growing up, Samiya would often dismantle and put back together various appliances, often times leading Houssam and her uncle to come home various dismantled heaters and alarm clocks. When she wasn't taking apart the kitchen, Samiya spent most of her time scavenging for gears and bobbles, building and fixing simple things, amassing a small hoard or wind-up toys made with various bits and pieces. Although her sister, Buthanyah has shown an affinity for brute strength, Samiya’s scavenging skills taught her to be quick on her feet, choosing often to run instead of fight a threat head-on. Years down the road, as Houssam began siphoning credits, she was able to go through mundane schooling, with the ultimate goal of becoming a Roboticist. Though her ambitions are important to her, she puts the family first, caring for her uncle, and doing necessary jobs that befit her skills. Whether through credible means or otherwise, Houssam was able to get her a place aboard the NSS Aurora as a lab assistant, where she intends to work towards her goals, while still assisting her family to the best of her capabilities. What do you like about this character?I like the idea of playing this character mine have been outspoken people who are willing to go against what people say, and playing someone who is quieter and more passive will be a big change. Aside from that, I also think that being apart of the Jawdat Family will be interesting, and will make for interesting interactions. How would you rate your role-playing ability?I think that I'm a somewhat decent role-player, and that I've improved a lot from when I started. Notes:
