  1. I'd just like everyone to note that this is literally everything Cassie ever said put into a topic.
  2. Seems like an idea with huge potential, and great to hear that it's probably possible to implement on the code side. Expand the service sector and give it a larger role to accommodate if you need to. There's obvious challenges associated with rolling out something of such complexity and a number of quite important problems you'd need to address to ensure that money actually stays valuable. Maybe some-such about medical care or augment maintenance/software upgrades or whatever. You can figure it out yourself. Personal advice, do some research on what people spend money on IRL, try to see why people on Aurora might behave differently or similarly and how the incentives and environment they face are different. Would seriously advise including some IRL costs alongside sci-fi costs. Try to make it a bit exciting or whatever rather than boring and mundane. Point is, this has the potential to be big. I'm interested to see how it goes down. If it falls flat, you can revise it, or attempt to partially salvage it at the least. I'd say it's definitely worth a try. I've heard the idea floated around before, and it'd be nice to finally see a serious attempt at putting it into action to get some idea of whether or not this is really possible.
  3. Actually, let me clarify. This is posted at the request Inverted Rectum/Haruspex, because he believed that you are misrepresenting him. He is not posting it himself because he requested that his account be deleted. This post is intended purely for the purposes of clarification so as to end any confusion which may result from these misconceptions; any further replies on the subject can be taken to PM and will not be replied to by me in this thread. The forum rules were referenced during the writing of this post, so as to ensure that it does not violate the rules. If this post is too off-topic, I would request that it be moved to its own thread, so that this entire matter can be conclusively put to rest. Haruspex left over a significant disagreement with Doomberg. It centered on Doomberg's official capacity and relevance, and there was signficant personal animosity. The particular event leading to him leaving involves an administration decision to which Doomberg was party (I will not go into detail in this thread). He left because of this decision primarily. There was a personal reason, not quite a misunderstanding, and the conflict involved significant personal animosity. He then moved on from SS13 with significant hard feelings. Now that this tangent is completely clarified, it can now be concluded with no further discussion in this thread. I will not reply to anyone further talking about this in this thread. I would request that everyone politely conclude this discussion, and take any such discussion to PM's.
  4. Maybe people should try to like, make the game fun for everyone. Including antags. Since it's a game. Antags ain't hired to do this shit, yo. And Jackboot, stop making me like your posts. I'm supposed to hate you.
  5. Actually, College results in a very good return on investment and the return in terms of increase in wages per year of education actually increase the longer you attend. The wage gap between people with and without degrees has been growing since the 1970's, and a lack of higher education is the primary reason for the stagnation of wages and increase in income inequality over the past few decades, due to labor now having a lower return relative to capital due to a shortage of high-skilled workers. This is why high skilled workers are seeing their wages rise higher and higher relative to unskilled labor. I know all this because of my college macroeconomics course. Alternatively, going to a technical school has good return.
  6. Please don't, I don't want a premature lock to compromise the integrity of my statistics. I've already updated my chart
  7. Well, to gauge the performance of these various threads over time, I've taken the liberty of creating a graph. As you can see, there's a clear spike in activity around May. Allow me to explain why that is not indicative of a larger trend. Now, I've been taking a stats course. Delta has only made six threads so far regarding either a leave of absence or plans/indications thereof, so I don't have too many data points to work with. But, I can determine that the thread from may was a likely outlier in the trend. To explain, let's do some statistical analysis. Sample: 3, 5, 12, 15, 15, 73 Q1=5 Median: 13.5 Q3=15 Interquartile range = 10 Now, determining the outlier from the interquartile range, any values lower than -1.5 or higher than 28.5 would be considered outliers. The value of the standard deviation would likely yield similar results. From this, we can now clean up our sample to more accurately gauge the amount of attention a hypothetical "Delta leaves" thread would receive at a given point in time. Looking at it this way, there appears to be a gradual increase around the first half of the year, before stagnating at 15. Although the value for this thread is 12 now, this is likely to rise. This would give us a clear but steady increase over the course of the year. By this time next year, you can expect each thread to be yielding somewhere around 25 posts a pop. Pretty anemic growth, but it's still a feat to sustain that growth over such a long period of time. Whether we'll actually see this come to fruition, however, depends on whether the outcome of this thread will resemble the outcome of the past five. In all seriousness; actions speak louder than words. BREAKING NEWS: I have just been informed that I missed one of the data points. This really overturns my previous hypothesis. Now, the trend is far more irregular, the growth much more gradual.

  9. You started smoking over a fucking videogame. And then you implied that you had started binge-drinking. You don't say that you've just 'taken up drinking' in that context to say that you're doing that stuff in moderation and being a responsible adult, which you now legally are. Given that you currently reside in the United States, you aren't even drinking age yet.

  11. But seriously, consider it. This shit is not healthy for you, and you know it. You're telling people about how you've taken up substance abuse because of this game, twice. I really, really think you should take a break, maybe of a few months at the least. Because you've made choices that have actual seriousface consequences, in what I can only assume is an attempt to fish for sympathy.

  13. I advise that you just take a break from the computer for a while. For real. Just, try doing something else. Reading, maybe. Focus on schoolwork, or meeting people. You're really getting way too caught up in all this. I was too, but not to your extent. Then I left. By now I've stopped playing. Previously I was quite addicted, and overuse of the game and playing at late hours was a major contributing factor to me having to drop one course and failing another my first semester at college. And the next semester, it was still an issue. Just cut it off, don't go back to it like you did all the other times you've said you'd leave. And I'm not saying this to be a dick. I'm legit concerned here. And, before you go. EDIT: Nevermind, you've quit smoking. Just. Don't binge drink, alright? Not over this.

  15. I would politely request that everyone else in the thread please show the maturity which Skull demonstrated and actually follow his actions. Specifically, accusing Cassy of being some nogood thoughtcriminal is... kinda explicitly against what Skull stated earlier. It is quite depressing that the person who screwed up is now more willing to discuss his screwup than many of the others in this thread. And Delta, given that Skull wants to discuss the legit issues that exist, and actually resolve him, I doubt he'll be all that receptive to closing the thread just to save you from even more embarrassment. Please do get on topic.
  16. Whether or not Carton is your only character doesn't change whether you're being a jackass and whether or not your accusations are baseless slander. If you don't want to be seen as a supporter of shitcurity stop judging criticism of shitcurity as the second coming of Adolf Stalin.
  17. I thank you for your self-awareness Skull, I certainly hope things on Aurora improve from here on out. This is a good first step, and I'll be sure to take this into account when discussing this incident in the future. Hope this pans out. And if things improve, then I hope that Aurora's reputation will reflect that.
  18. If you want to ignore the fact that the name 'Aurora' has now joined the ranks of Hypatia in terms of the reputation of its head administration, and justly so, be my guest. Again, I have no obligation to help you, no desire for you to actually listen to me. The nice thing is, your opinion is now entirely irrelevant to me. As is that of the staff. Given the exemplary efforts of Skull and Doomberg to reach the position of "Worst Staff of 2015", and my complete lack of attachment to Aurora, the ball is now in their court. And yours. Do with my advice as you like. I certainly wish the best for the players of Aurora. The community is in pretty bad shape, fragmented into dozens of private skype groups, gossiping and politiking. Much of it linked to the problems Cassy outlined and the staff failed to act upon. The server lacks a clear focus. You can't appeal to everyone. And until a focus is defined, there'll be political maneuvering and warfare between the various sides. One side will lose, and maybe leave the server. But if you don't do anything, then you get this mess, with a divided and broken community. I mean, there's also a number of other problems. In the words of Doomberg, you just need to look in Cassie's "entire posting history" to see the problem. Really, she does a good job of outlining them.
  19. I can explain the reason. A complete loss of faith in the administration. It as not seen as worth it. Soundscopes had already demonstrated that they were siding with the staff against all reason, and the staff had demonstrated themselves to be completely unreasonable. The headmin and head dev were the ones being complained about and the ones in charge of the complaints. Soundscopes was obviously biased, and many people supported an absurd and unreasonable position. The staff had been dealt with for several months on end, progress was not made, and for speaking up and raising legit issues Skull and Doomberg saw Cassie as a 'toxic individual' causing the problems, doing their damnedest to ignore every major problem with the server and instead blaming the complainer. That's the mindset. This was an opportunity to finally sever ties. Now, the Aurora staff can't abuse us like this again, because they have no power or leverage over us. This is worth far more than what is gained from the server. I will certainly regret leaving many characters behind, but many Aurora regulars have already left due to the problems the staff have neglected to solve, the ones they have actively repressed dialogue on (brought up in the first thread), and the ones they even cause themselves in this case. The idea with the reddit thread was to either 1. Embarass Skull and Doomberg into, hopefully, stepping down, or at least get them to show some humility, undo the ban as a symbolic measure, and actually change policy. Or 2. warn other players on other servers about the numerous problems on Aurora and the toxic environment present, so they won't have to suffer through it. The fact that Doomberg responded by claiming thatwe had 'done no damage' shows that he chose Option 2. After the thread, the choice is no longer ours. The initiative is purely on Skull and Doomberg. They caused this mess. Now my group has no obligation to them, they have no power over us, and we have no reason to actively do anything for them. We can be honest for once and don't have to lie for fear of losing social capital or losing the favor of the staff. And we don't have to promise to keep quiet about the issue or anything. We can simply... go on, be normal players, and act like normal people. I intend no insult. This is simply me being honest in my dealings. I'm stating my opinion and a number of facts. Whether people see this as somehow an ad hominem is up to them. For those of you like Frances that have somehow still maintained the will to stay, if you want to fix Aurora then I'd advise actually listening to what Cassy and Rectum said. And I'd think very carefully about the heads of staff. When I say the staff, I primarily refer to the heads. I don't mean everyone. Hell, we even have some staff and ex-staff in our 'insidious' metaclique.
  20. Choi Hyun would love to assist. Aaaaa. AAAA. Omigod this is so awesome!
  21. Y-you are the hero this station needs, not the one it deserves.
  22. Hi. I play Lockie Green. I'd just like to note that, as far as I'm aware, your summary of McGrath's behavior has a few mistakes. She isn't in a relationship with Lockie. Lockie's straight, though she is extremely affectionate to.... most people, so I see how you could make that mistake. McGrath is a flirt, as explained already, and is in an open relationship with someone off-station. She also seems, from my experience, to be a pretty stable individual. When I played as my engineering character, McGrath was rather competent in her position as an engineer, and didn't seem to have her romance get in the way of doing her job. I haven't worked under her while she was a head of engineering, but she seemed quite responsible. When Lockie was being a bit too attached to her and went to engineering to say hello right after she arrived, she didn't let Lockie distract her from her work and had Lockie leave engineering. She doesn't seem to let friendships get in the way of doing her job. She hasn't given Lockie special treatment as a head of staff and seems to have acted quite responsibly. Far moreso than my character anyway. Just my two cents. I certainly hope this complaint can be resolved in a civil manner.
  23. I think this is a great idea, Jackboot. No clue over the name or whatever, but honestly, I don't care. A character whose entire job is to oversee sec? That sounds great. Obviously the current situation is sub-optimal given the raging shitnado which periodically rips through the station, so clearly some sort of change is needed. If the IAA aren't doing this job, and sec isn't self policing, I don't see why everything would magically and spontaneously change for the better without some outside interference. May as well give it a shot. It seems like the sort of role that would exist. Maybe have their introduction be an IC event or whatever, I dunno.

    Seizures

Could we add "EMP" as something you can choose for those characters with neural implants? We could then use anaphlaxis and such as .... I dunno, maybe a viral symptom, or some effects for poisons or whatever. Or maybe something with nanomachines causing it, I dunno, either way adding this general option should give useful options to developers in the future.
