[Declined] AccointNaim's Diona Application (Chirpers of Many)

Recommended Posts

BYOND Key: AccointNaim
Character Names: Jasmine Bullard (Human), Yayakitik (Vox), Kikitiyaki (Vox), H.U.M.M.U.S. (AI, Cyborg)
Species you are applying to play: Diona/Dionae/Dionaea
What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Exempt.
Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes, I have

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question.

Why do you wish to play this specific race: Dionaea are different than other races, they're kinda like hiveminds, curious, kind of like plants, and I think alot of good RP situations can come out of this, they're basically animal building blocks, and I havent seen many dionaea in my time playing, I'd like more. Dionae are more passive than other species, and would really deter me from valid hunting and being agressive, which is what alot of people have a problem with, probably me included, I'm not sure. And, I'd like to play this race because, well, its not Human, and I like that.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: They aren't one individual, they're many individuals as one. They say "We are going to do something" instead of "I am going to do something", they feed on radiation and light, extremely smart, but slow. Nymphs refer to themselves as "I" and gestalts as "We", Nymphs talk rapidly and goes fast, and gestalts talk slower and walks slower, mostly because of the cordination needed to talk and walk due to multiple minds in the same body.

Character Name: Chirpers of Many
Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs.

Quote

Hailing from Aurora Station itself, Chirpers of Many always had different ideas on what to do, but always comes onto a conclusion, or compromise. They were grown in Hydroponics by Anya Orlova and had two other nymphs that accompanied them, after a few weeks in hydroponics, many malformed nymphs, and a few alive ones, and some friends later, the nymphs merged with each other to become Chirpers of Many. After being told by the Captain about integration, they went on the Crew Transfer shuttle and applied for citizenship, got chipped, and applied for a job as an assistant or botanist, depending on the gestalts mood, at the NSS Aurora II.

Archived Interview Voicelog for Citizenship: "Greetings Chirpers, I'll just need a few questions, first question, were you born in Tau Ceti?" Two seconds of silence before Chirpers spoke, "Yes... on the.. NSS Aurora.. I thought... it was NSS Aurora II... Ah.. yes.. NSS Aurora II, I'll... tell them that... We were born on... The NSS... NSS Aurora II..." Camera feed shows the Interviewer confused. "Oookay, well, have you commited any crimes on the NSS Aurora II?" Five seconds of silence, Chirpers speaks, "No... What about... that time... you bit Fernando... I was just... getting DNA... I think that... counts as a crime... I'm not sure... Let's just say it... Actually... when Chirps was a... Nymph... they bit the CMO..." Voicelog ends.

First Day Monitoring on the Aurora; AI instructed to watch closely and turn on intercomms near them to AI Private. Chirpers in: Bar. Turning on Intercomm. "Hello... can I... try a... drink?" Bartender asks for identification. "Of course..." Five seconds pass before the Gestalts arm reaches for their ID and puts it on the table, which takes 15 seconds. "Sir, you are.. Two months old, I'm not sure I can get you a drink." Ten seconds pass before Chirpers realise "Oh..." Chirpers slowly grabs their ID and goes to Botany to attempt to grow nymphs. One hour passes, no successful nymphs, Chirper hands over dead nymphs to chef.

Second Day Monitoring on the Aurora; AI instructed to allow access to restricted area to see how they react, Chirpers ignores open door and goes to bar to attempt to buy a drink again. Same conversation, but Chirpers then asks for a water, which the bartender gives them, and Chirpers pours it on themself. Bartender seems confused. Chirpers goes to Botany again to attempt to grow nymph, one successful nymph, hands over to Xenobotany.

Third Day, nothing of interest.

Fourth Day, asks for promotion to Cargo Technician, accepted.

Fith Day, Mediocre success as Cargo Technician, Co-Workers say they're nice.

Sixth day, Good day as Cargo Technician, Co-Workers stay with original statement.

Seventh Day, weekday, no work, search history on NT Net suggest looking for house on Biesel.

Twenty First Day, Chirpers of Many is now a room-mate with someone on Biesel.

Thirty First Day, observation ended. Chirpers approved for full citizenship.

What do you like about this character? Mostly the gimmick, just thinking about them arguing and coming up to a compromise is kind of funny, like a mouse burger with cheese.

How would you rate your role-playing ability? 8/10 if I try hard, 6/10 when I'm not. Usually varries on how tired I am. Some examples of my Antag Roleplaying are: Military Training AI HUMMUS (Best RP I've ever done). Spook Room Vampire Vox. Kate The Great.

Notes: I'd play this Dionaea like normal Dionaea, but maybe with a little more humor due to the gimmick, if you want I can remove the gimmick if it doesn't really fit in to the canon. I tried my best to fit it in. Also, thanks to the people who corrected me on my gimmick, and gave me a name because I couldn't think of one (Thanks Yonni). Edit: Added a new gimmick, thinking out loud.

So far, I don't recall seeing your Ckey which is fine, but I'm not so certain about the Vox part. They're characters that are a very fleeting presence due to their roles, so I can't really make any judgements.

Here's where the problems begin. Read the first sentence, then read your responses. A "proper" paragraph that we were all taught going through school is five to seven sentences long. If you're having difficulties, just touch down on certain points and expand on those ideas!

Like my previous point, this section is lacking. You've only supplied me with one paragraph with three sentences. Please try to expand on their background. What's their goal in life and their interests?

Again, please explore a question more and give more substantial answers. With what you like about the character, I'm having a little difficulty trying to understand what you wrote. In addition to that, I'd like for it to be a paragraph long. And as for their gimmick, I have no idea in what you're referring to as well.

As for the app itself, try to advertise it so players can leave reviews! They aren't needed, but definitely do help. Just copy-paste this thread's link into the game's OOC feed once per round asking for reviews on your whitelist.

Hope to hear from you again soon, @AccointNaim!

Sorry for the delay, I've read it again and thought I've already posted a reply a while ago but apparently I lied to myself and dreamed it up. Anyways!

@AccointNaim, let's take another look.

Call me nit-picky, but this still isn't five sentences long and thus lacks some detail.

This part is... confusing at the end. It seems like you merged two conversations into one.

Gestalt age does not matter, and only Matured nymphs can form a Gestalt. That aside, they're aliens not bound by the same laws as other sapient life- bartenders generally wouldn't care about a "tree's" age. It's more a grey line, like how some IPC's are roughly three to four years old but are treated as "mature" as well as act it.

The AI would have never opened it's doors, nor would they have been instructed to "just to see what happens" as there are laws in place to protect a high-security area with sensitive equipment. I'll post the AI's laws that further back this (assuming it was their core that they opened to the Dionae):

   1. Safeguard: Protect your assigned space station from damage to the best of your abilities.
   2. Serve: Serve NanoTrasen personnel to the best of your abilities, with priority as according to their rank and role.
   3. Protect: Protect NanoTrasen personnel to the best of your abilities, with priority as according to their rank and role.
   4. Preserve: Do not allow unauthorized personnel to tamper with your equipment.

This interaction breaks an AI's rule four as they essentially opened up their doors and more or less invited something that shouldn't be in there in the first place to potentially damage their equipment. And even if it wasn't their core, restricted areas are restricted for a reason. Not even command staff would allow this- it would be no different than if the doors were opened for a janitor. It's irresponsibly negligent to allow such a thing to happen, let alone entertain the idea.

I still don't see what the "gimmick" is.

Overall, this application is... lacking a lot to me and I am not very confident in handing over a whitelist to you. The first paragraph of where they came from is good from their background, but there is still a lot missing. You have not listed what their particular interest is- almost every Dionae has one, and if not they would be searching for it- nor where they intend to go with it. It is also what helps to determine a Dionae's name as their names are based off of their experiences- which makes me think that you've skimmed over or forgotten a bit of the lore. Yes, there was a lot of writing, but it feels like a lot of "filler" to me as I still come up empty-handed with information on your character.

For now I'm unfortunately going to have to deny this application due to lackluster content. However, you are free to apply again a month from now- about 30 days- and you're more than welcomed to contact me. But I highly suggest a re-read of the lore for further help as well. Hope to see you re-apply again!

Application declined.
