BYOND Key: KingOfThePing

Character Names: thzthzthz.png.c01cf35d7126ec6443cdb34ca00ee87f.png

Crossed out are may-mays or have never been played.

Species you are applying to play: IPC

What color do you plan on making your first alien character: It'll be a Shell

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question.

Why do you wish to play this specific race:

IPCs see the world through different eyes, depending on what model and what personality is loaded they approach situations completely different. Some just act in their line of duty, devoid of any human emotions or ambitions. Others are almost human like, not only in their personality, but also their appearance. But in the end they are still machines, that decide what they do off of logic, not emotions as well as having a sense of self-preservation. So even though there are some similarities to humans, their behaviour is based off of a completely different....basis.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

As outlined above, the difference lies especially in the base of decision making, that not being emotions but on an action-result basis. IPCs are limited in their emotional capabilities, the best they can do is imitate human emotions, recreating them is hardly possible, especially with more classic robot-like models like Baseline frames. This is explained by the SSTA, which states that synthetics are just unable by nature to understand emotions, thus not being able to recreate them. Also, just like AIs need laws to understand any kind of "morality", the same applies to IPCs, morales and principles have to be hand-written and coded into the posibrain, otherwise IPCs are just not able to grasp what these concepts are, which makes them, on the emotional level, greatly different from humans.

Character Name: Akara-156

Please provide a short backstory for this character

Akara-156 was originally built by Idris Incorporated here in Tau Ceti as a data handling IPC, as well as presenting analyzed data to shareholders, the executive and VIP customers. As the name suggests at least 155 other Akaras were built before her and due to the amount of data, that a company like Idris Incorporated recieves and sends every day quite some after Akara-156 were built, too. 156 was responsible for handling a share of the data generated by personnel and the general productivity, which came together at the Idris Headquarters in Mendell City. As already said, she analyzed this data with other Akara units, tried to find improvements in productivity, information management, where to save money or shorten personnel requirements, while upholding or improving revenue for the company. Her (and the other Akara's) results were also sooner or later presented to the Executives or important shareholders - the sole reason most Akaras are Shells, to be presentable to the "public", to give the "information brokers" of Idris Incorporated a at least close-to-human face.

But as it is in these times, especially with technology, sooner or later every model is outdated, and sooner or later no upgrade can keep a model afloat forever. Not too long ago this fate also hit Akara-156. One day her performance was evaluated as subpar and to get back some money (Akara units are expensive to build with a price tag of around 250.000 credits) their databanks were completely wiped except the existing personality, and sold off to interested parties, at which point she was auctioned off from Idris and bought by NanoTrasen. The thought behind the purchase was that if these Akara units can handle giant datastreams of an interstellar banking corporation they can easily handle a single department. After some attempts to datamine confidental information NanoTrasen hoped to still find inside Akara-156's databanks, which were of course fruitless, they were reprogrammed to work aboard the NSS Aurora as a Head of Personnel. This task may be much smaller in size on what Akara-156 is used to, but that doesn't mean it's easier. With basically all knowledge about her previous life lost they are curious to re-learn and find their place in their new enviroment.

What do you like about this character?

Even though the only thing she has left is the personality she got loaded in by Idris and thus has to find her way in the new work enviroment again she's confident in her ability to live up to the task. She is programmed to be curious, friendly, or in other words trying to be as human-like as possible. Due to the databank wipes she might have to re-learn one thing or the other but she always gives 100% for the Corporation.

How would you rate your role-playing ability? As always I do not like to rate myself but was told to do so regardless. I'd rate myself a 7/10, as far as I know all my characters I ever made were well recieved (of course, the better known ones more than the less played ones) and I think I am a capable roleplayer, especially when it comes to alien races. My characters have ideals, weaknesses and are no super heroes.

Notes: I'll draw a picture of Akara, probably, except this app gets processed in like, lightning speed
