[Denied] The Flyest Nihilist - Command Application

Recommended Posts

BYOND key: The Flyest Nihilist

Character names: Ricardo LaCroix, Guillermo Adamente

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Roughly four or five months

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I liked playing as Command on Polaris, particularly Head of Security, and after spending some time getting to know the Aurora Security Department, I feel confident I can effectively manage it. I like to take advantage of the command position to keep my department co-ordinated during high-action moments, but still have something interesting and novel to do when there's nothing security-oriented happening.

Why did you come to Aurora?: I played on Polaris for three years or so but eventually got dissatisfied with the general direction of the server, so I tried out Aurora. I'm now having fun on Aurora that I rarely ever had on Pol, so, I came over because you're the better of the two HRP servers.

Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Thoroughly.

Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? No.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: It's basically improv but instead of being always comedic, it's more dramatic. Through playing the game effectively but also trying to act this character at the same time, it makes both the improv and the game a hell of a lot more fun. I definitely wouldn't be playing SS13 if not for the roleplay aspects. I believe that a good character is one that is nothing like you, but still behaves realistically, so I take great pride in making my characters have strong and realistic identities.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: It's a senior position basically, same as in the workplace. They are there to streamline the general purpose of the department but they also open up additional roleplaying opportunities. For example, if you've got a superior you can report something to, you can rope a fourth or fifth person into a smaller event, keeping the round interesting and nobody left out. A good Head of Staff should at least have this dynamic in the back of their mind and should subtly try to make sure everyone in their department is included somehow in the events of the round.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: The main separation I see between whitelisted players and non-whitelisted players is that when you see a Captain, HOS, CE, whatever, you know that character is fully fleshed out. Like that character is sort of representative of the greater community, so if Command players are constantly messing around (like on Polaris for example), it would make the setting of a corporate space station less immersive. So, I'll always keep a certain level of professionalism and strive to keep improving my character.

Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career? The Tau Ceti system is governed by an independent colonial power, The Republic of Biesel. The human megacorporation, NanoTrasen, is basically the infrastructure on which that government is built and this is something that makes Ricardo very uncomfortable. His home country was very politically left and he served in a conflict that erupted in part because of corporate influences over the lives of every day people. Despite this, Ricardo keeps his political past very deeply hidden but his ideals of integrity and justice hold up very well and inform his passion.

The economic difficulties that arose on his home planet compelled him to look for work with one of the megacorporations that were proving to be so self-sufficent. Being on the frontier combined with the aggressive actions from the Sol Alliance, political tensions are at a fever pitch. Ricardo will have to make a choice as to whether or not he gets involved eventually, but for the time being he just wants to do his job well and get paid.

What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? Head of Security, I would consider making a Captain character after another four months or so of being whitelisted

Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.: Ricardo LaCroix, Head of Security.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?: It's on of the few things I'm naturally good at, but I like to think I'm still improving. So, 8/10.

Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Of course.

Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? Yes.

Extra notes: I have been promoted to Interim Head of Personnel in character twice and Interim Head of Security twice.

Not been hugely impressed tbh. Lots of valid-hunty behaviour, as well as doing things that exclude others from antag play. Forcing people away from non-violent antags or the like, use of force far more than is required, ect. Things like pepperspraying handcuffed prisoners is just...off.

Sorry, I personally think you need more time here before applying for command. HoS especially. ?
