Vrow - IPC Application.

Recommended Posts

BYOND Key: Vrow
Character Names: (From most to least played) Neith Mekesatis, Ravindra Sarita, Liboko Lypso
What color do you plan on making your first alien character: IPC exempt
Have you read our lore's section's page on this species?: Yes, in fact there's a minor inconsistency in the Zeng-Hu page where it refers to Oran as Zeng-Hu's headquarters (when it's a Hephaestus owned sector) which in turn causes the Bishop Cybernetics part of the Synthetic Origins to be situated in Oran instead of Akhet or Amon.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question.

Why do you wish to play this specific race:
At first I've already found IPCs relatable at face value (Efficiency, Logical, Intelligent, difficulties with understanding emotional nuances and responding in an appropriate way, etc), then I began to properly consider the number of concepts that can be explored through them (matters of Identity, emotional detachment at a core level, a literal set of laws governing their thoughts and behaviors), and the challenge of keeping your own heightened emotional reactions in check when playing. All of these reasons form a mass of fascination and intrigue that gravitates me towards them.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a human:
IPCs are very distinct in contrast to Humans (as are all other races), be it in In-Game Mechanics (rivaled by Vaurca and Diona), Lore (their general lack of rights, their relations with other factions such as Jargon Federation Skrell), internal self-reflection (the legitimacy of their own emotions or empathy, or the closest they can get to either concept) and ultimately their core behaviors as synthetic beings who ultimately have self-preservation in mind, yet the ways to achieve it ranging from what a human could expect to a stark contrast in cold logic or loopholes.

Character name: Z-H Adhama 7
Please provide a short backstory for this character
Christened with the model name "Adhama" as one of the first produced exclusively by the Bishop Production Factory of the same name in Oran in 2440, the original model was designed for the Entertainment industry as a luxurious, charming, smiling combination of a butler, host and performer whose upkeep and maintenance only grew as profits were lost to newer, better models leading to its eventual depreciation. Unit BC-Adhama B7-7 would remain in top condition at first as a prestigious model, then later as a collector's unit, even later as a vintage collector model until they would be finally discarded as too outdated and too expensive to maintain after 20 years. Through sheer devotion to their own original purpose to serve and entertain, unit BC-Adhama B7-7 would persist as a type of scout through the streets of Oran with their entertaining tricks as misdirection when things soured. At first they'd salvage parts and components which more closely matched their model, but as the years passed their own survival would soon grow to depend on a Scrapper gang called Moto, characterized by the various burns and melted chassis from being too close to a Hephaestus Industries refinery.

The following 3 years would radically change the model's chassis as more of their original parts are replaced, with only the screen and upper left arm recognizable as an Adhama model which would be eventually marked by the gang's sign of a factory chimney on fire. Their life would soon change after a sting operation near their makeshift base, being not only captured but also recognized by an eccentric Zeng-Hu executive by pure chance during transport as a type of nostalgic trinket he'd purchase on a whim.

Under a new owner, a refitted name, and new legs so graciously upgraded by Zeng-Hu, unit Z-H Adhama 7 would be sent to the NSS Aurora as a type of rehabilitation from Scrapper to a facsimile of their once used memorable performative servant, acting as a First Responder from their years of learning how to navigate Oran's streets and underground tunnels while also combining their original purpose as an entertaining butler as they do their best to represent the excellent qualities of Zeng-Hu.

Now at the verge of regaining their previous prestige at the cost of their years free, the result of this rehabilitation may be decided in the station. And as long as it is entertaining for someone, the show will go on.

What do you like about this character?
Adhama checks through an internal list I've had for a while. Eridanian, a good reason to try to act like a suit, utilizes the Scrappers concept (with hopefully very different limbs and body markings to do them justice), externally behaves distinctly different from Neith (who has been the bane of my IPC whitelist existence) as a charming individual who tries to fill in time by being entertaining even if it feels painfully forced, internally in conflict between their original purpose and their experience with their gang Moto, and fills in the First Responder spot in my own character roster for a medical team.

How would you rate your role-playing ability?
7.8/10 (too much water). I still have some issues with consistency, playing other characters, and knowing how to balance emotional reactions in stressful scenes.

Notes:
I still wrote Adhama's origin in Oran since I don't know where the Bishop Production Factory might end up if Zeng-Hu's page gets fixed/tweaked. Also I'm very sorry in case the backstory seems disjointed due to it or incoherent sentences, trying to balance between writing enough of it but not so much that it's a wall to go through.

Vrow is an excellent RPer to interact with and a very detail-oriented person. I have no doubts in my mind that they will do splendidly with a synthetic whitelist and inspire others to play IPCs!

I have a couple of curious questions if I may:

1) How does Adhama feel about being owned?

2) Does Adhama identify more with dregs or suits? Do they even identify with either and involve themselves in this Eridani (Eridanian? Eridanite???) conflict?

Good luck with your application!

Thanks! And of course, questions are always great. (Edit: AAAAAAAAAAAAAA)

1) How does Adhama feel about being owned?
Conflicted. On one hand, Adhama yearns for their former glory (ha ha) as a prestigious model and not just be as functional as a static mannequin in a locked glass case, so being owned now could help them achieve that, even at the danger of being permanently dismantled for being too expensive/outdated to be maintained. But on the other hand, they have experienced something new with their gang, something they didn't have time to address or explore before being re-acquired.

2) Does Adhama identify more with Dregs or Suits? Do they even identify with either and involve themselves in this Eridani (Eridanian? Eridanite???) conflict?
Currently as an extension of their new owner, Adhama has to identify externally as a Suit to maintain their owner's reputation and keep a good relationship between them. Internally there's more conflict from being built as a Suit and lived most of their life as a Suit, to then become a Dreg due to circumstances they couldn't control and having to survive with other Dregs and experiencing actual camaraderie, just to suddenly become reinstated with a meager chance of regaining their original status, even if it was against their will.

Once again @Haydizzle comes in and does my work for me.

Nonetheless, thank you for applying! This is an all around solid application that demonstrates an understanding of IPCs. Accepted.

Typically I am not strict when it comes to where exactly an IPC was manufactured (other than the star system), however good catch with the wiki stuff. I’ll see to fixing that detail in the next set of days.
