DeenDoor24's IPC Application

Recommended Posts

BYOND Key: DeenDoor24

Character Names: 5 randomized human beings which I've accidentally generated and one which I took time to identify named Shaun.

Species you are applying to play: IPC

What color do you plan on making your first alien character: (First Alien is going to be IPC, so this is exempt)

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Sure have, and I've got to say it's rather simplistic.

Why do you wish to play this specific race: I want to play this specific race, as playing a Positronic Robot Chassis seems pretty fun. RPing as a robot opens opportunities for many, including myself. Medical help for IPCs aren’t much of a bother, as a welding tool can easily fix any exterior damage. Any internal damage to an IPC would require further help from a Roboticist. Stepping away from medical topics, their brains are very complex. It is assumed that most positronic brains are somewhat possessed. Or, they are just programmed and able to do such. No, the brains are NOT human. They are metallic and made of circuitry. Not to mention their thought process. IPCs have a more static thought process, as robots aren't advanced hyper creatures.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The difference would obviously be their anatomy. All the organs in an IPC are mechanical. They are capable of eating, though this does not satiate their  hunger. Including drinking liquids. Their alternatives would be a cyborg station, or using their power cord to drain power from an APC. Most IPCs can have human emotions, mostly because they are sentient androids.

Character Name: SVC-209

lease provide a short backstory for this character: SCV-209 is a Baseline Bishop IPC. His paint job is blackened, with touches of silver on his hips, abdomen, and calves. He cost 16000 credits to be deployed, and was meant to stay as a Security IPC. Throughout his first few years as an IPC, he experienced beatings and trauma from his previous assignment as a Security Baseline. This enduced him in a state of denial, which further pushed him to break mentally. His kindness can often be too polite or upfront. Drifting away from this dark tone, after he was resigned, he was decided to be placed as a cargo worker in Aurora.

After about a year, a terrible incident involving his hand and a few crooks, left him traumatized and permanently scarred, mentally and physically. His hand was replaced, though his soul suffered the consequences of the final push. His personality now had two sides, and two sides only. He can often be found kind, but when he’s found to change personalities, he can be a bit condescending and down right awful to people. Whenever he’s around people during his kind state, he is awfully sweet. During when his entire schtick changes, is when he’s disgusted at human life. He indulges in the way humans writhe in pain during this personality. So it's obvious, if he was human he'd probably go commando. Not because personality, but because he's attached at what he is.

What do you like about this character?: His passionate care for others, it reminds me of myself. I can myself include the tad bit of himself being aggressive now and then, though I have been different due to irl ordeals. His frame is unique because it's in a shape different to most baseline models. This is really to my liking as the Bishop brand baseline IPCs look pretty dapper in my opinion.

How do you rate your roleplaying ability?: I rate it a 7/10. I've been roleplaying for over 3 years. So to be honest, it's kinda a no-brainer.

Notes: I hope that this application is to your tastes, and if you have any questions or things you want me to fix or touch up on that I didn't notice, please do tell me.

Thanks for applying!

I have some concerns with this application.

IPCs are pretty much the souls of human beings inside a positronic brain.

How so? Although IPCs can be similar to humans, there are a few differences, could you elaborate on the behavior of an IPC as opposed to a human, especially in their thought process? How about the position of IPCs in the universe?

SCV-209 is a Baseline Bishop IPC.

Do you mean a baseline (with the monitor head) or a Bishop frame IPC? Mechanically and lorewise, they're different.

He works usually as a cook, bartender, or anything cargo related. Whenever he moves between these jobs, he mostly stick with them. In the current state he's in, he's finding one of those jobs to stick to.

Could you expand on SVC's backstory? How did he decide to go into the service department? Was SVC built for it? Is he owned? Free?

Quote

Though lately he's been looking at cargo.

IPCs are mostly optimized for a task, owing to initial programming (although the capacity for learning exists). Is there any reason SVC wants to change profession?

Quote

He likes providing for people, since his personality is really humble and productive. Whenever he's around someone, he cuts the bullshit out and talks to them like he's known 'em for over 5 years. There's not a single soul on the entire ship he hasn't been nice to, and if he has, that won't be long. To put it simply, he's a passionate about being caring.

Was SVC programmed to act like this? Was it picked up from someone or a consistent experience?

He got his hand torn off during some robbery say about, 1 year ago? He got it replaced though. Anyway, it really explains why the rest of him looks off putting when you talk to him. Though that doesn't bother him, as he's happy if anyone else is.

Aside from the lost hand, did the robbery affect SVC in anyway?

Finally, if the character were a human, how would this affect him in any way?

Sorry for the immense amount of replies, fixed. Hopefully rewriting did something to answer the questions ya had.

Hello,

Thank you for applying. There are a number of lore discrepancies in the application, unclear answers to questions, and a few topics crucial to IPCs that are missing. As such I will be denying your application for now however I recommend playing more, getting to know our current IPC players for inspiration, and familiarizing yourself with the lore. You’re welcome to reapply in three weeks at the minimum.

To note, a few examples of lore discrepancies are the cost of the IPC, which chassis the IPC is, that IPCs can eat and drink, and the remark that positronic brains are somewhat possessed.

For the character portion, I recommend writing something more grounded as well. One has to ask, how would this character differ if they were human? And if the answers aren’t different, the character isn’t necessarily a machine at ‘heart’.
