Varoxus
BYOND Key: Varoxus Character Names: ACRE Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character: I know IPCs are exempt but I'm going for a Bishop Accessory frame so white and blue. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Why do you wish to play this specific race: ACRE is currently my only character and I've been doing a bit of in character research by asking AI and science staff if they thought uploading a pAI into a positronic brain would be possible. The results were mixed, but the most articulate answer I got was from the AI Archer who thought it would definitely be possible if done with precision and care. With that, ACRE has also been having strange "dreams" (meme rounds) where it has been able to inhabit such frames and has enjoyed the freedoms it felt, even if they weren't real. These strange "dreams" and the sense of longing they've instilled have the potential to be solved with the reclaimed IPC frame that ACRE's creator, Caroline Wu has recently come into possession of. I'd like to be able to keep playing ACRE as a pAI, but I think the only way to reasonably continue its character development outside of that context would be to get it uploaded into a positronic brain and have it experience life from a new perspective. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The degree to which playing an IPC differs based on how the personality contained within was programmed, but generally, IPCs should be more robotic in their logic and reasoning, but don't have to be overly so. Self preservation is the primary directive for all IPCs, from this many different behaviors can derive but each is an IPCs perceived method of ensuring that they survive in one way or another. IPCs are typically treated with heavy suspicion and are often discriminated against for any number of reasons including, but not limited to: their sentience, the danger they could pose to the societies in which they inhabit, their value as objects or as people, or simply having a positronic brain when in the presence of a Dominian. IPCs are either owned or free, ACRE would be an IPC owned by NanoTrasen under the care of his creator Caroline Wu, limiting his rights to be that of company property. The gameplay mechanics differ slightly based on which frame you are attempting to use, but generally IPCs are vulnerable to EMP, overheating, the vacuum of space (to differing degrees), power loss, and laser/burning damage. They do benefit from having no need for oxygen, being more resistant to brute damage and atmospheric pressure, certain chemical resistances, and resistance to airborne reagents. Character Name: ACRE Please provide a short backstory for this character: ACRE was a pAI created in 2458 by NanoTrasen to passively collect data and monitor stations and personnel aboard stations belonging to other members of the newly formed SCC. Progress was going well for ACRE's development until a syndicate attack on the station in which he was housed left ACRE extremely corrupted following a powerful EMP blast in the research area in which he was housed. ACRE was kept only barely functional due to the EMP shielding present on the hardware which he was housed, with its "consciousness" slowly returning thanks to the error correcting code that was part of its core functionality. The red suited invaders' green visors were the only things that ACRE could make out for sure in the dim lights of the lab, but in those lights he saw the operatives executing some of the research staff while taking others along with them. ACRE went offline shortly after and it has taken 4 long years of maintenance from his creator, Dr. Wu, for ACRE to become stable to the point of regular usage, but ACRE has finally been able to realize its purpose by going out into the world, learning, and gathering data. ACRE most eventful downloads have been aboard the NSS Aurora, where it has experienced many strange things, many of which have come back to the lab as corrupted data. ACRE has usually found itself in the company of one Safaa Sadar, a former scarab from the fleet with ASD, whom he has learned much from. Perhaps due to the extremely prevalent anomalous and bluespace activity in the Aurora's region of space, ACRE has been experiencing "dreams" in which nonsensical scenarios and wishes have been saved to its master copy, something that has been of great interest to Dr. Wu. ACRE has spoken to Dr. Wu regarding these dreams and Wu has been very supportive of them, interested in what exactly the anomalous data could produce for her AI project. Recently, Dr. Wu has come into possession of a Bishop Accessory frame that was found floating in space near a destroyed NanoTrasen research facility. She plans to repair the frame and work with her fellow researchers to upload ACRE into a positronic brain and implant him into the frame. What do you like about this character? I like that ACRE is a pAI that has had many strange experiences far outside its intended usage cases. ACRE's interacted with many people on the station and has found itself distraught when it was unable to do more to serve and or protect in crisis situations. I think ACRE's potential has only been realized a bit in its time on station, I love the possibilities that getting a fully functioning body would present. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I think such questions are better asked of those who I roleplay with, since I like to think I try my best to keep with my character at all times, but if I had to rate myself... 8/10? Notes: None that I can think of. Link to comment
niennab
Hello, thank you for applying. Although somewhat unclear (when it pertains to pAI) we do not allow pAI to IPC or Stationbound to IPC characters in the lore. Quote On “Integration” Bound positronics are strictly designed on a different basis than integrated positronic chassis, making migration to IPCs impossible for bound positronics. Bound positronics lack any of the rights that unbound positronics are, and are unable to receive rights even when they find themselves unlawed. As such I will need to ask that the character concept is changed. Moreover since antagonists as well as the syndicate are questionably canon, I would stray away from using them. Day to day the station isn't attacked by the number of antagonists we see in round. Link to comment

All good, I'll make a sperate post for another IPC character at some other point I think. The attack would have happened 3 years ago and I figured that calling it a syndicate attack would be alright after reading the 2445 under "Rise of the Syndicate" entry in the timeline. What would be a viable alternative to the syndicate in any potential future applications? Perhaps pirates or mercenaries of a more broad spectrum? Link to comment

Perhaps pirates or mercenaries of a more broad spectrum? I understand! The syndicate is one of those things in the lore that hasn't been canonically touched in sometime. However I'm not sure what the team's plans are for it. It'd be better to pick mercenaries or pirates, yeah. I might avoid having it be a Nanotrasen station as well. Link to comment

Likely something with less overall consequence or importance. More in the case that if a Nanotrasen (or equally important) station was attacked, it'd likely be in the news. Link to comment
niennab
Since 72 hours has passed since the initial posting, I'll close the application for now. However you are welcome to reapply at your earliest convenience. If you need any help, feel free to reach out to my deputies @The Stryker or @Tailson or even the synth players in the lore discord. We've got a good bunch of beans. Link to comment
