whitewolftamer Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 BYOND Key: Whitewolftamer Character Names: Kane Lanson, Vince Callahan, Klaas Lyksten, Agmeno Sadar Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character: IPC Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've always found robots in any sci-fi setting to be neat, Chappy, the MRVNs in titanfall, i've just always loved robots, thinking or not. As such having an IPC whitelist would open a whole new door for me to indulge in this fascination. In the lore of aurora as well robots are well explored and even have their own faiths! IPCs would also provide for more opportunities in a more mechanical sense as having a vulnerability to EMPs and an inability to passively heal could provide for many different interesting RP scenarios Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: I believe it really depends on the IPC, there are some which are arguably sapient, and then there are also mindless drones who are essentially Borg V2 without laws. For a mindless drone you can have all sorts of fun with how you speak "ERR: QUOTIENT NOT MET. RE-BOOT INITIATED" *queue loud whirring. And with the arguably sapient ones you can differentiate them with emotes (yes you can make the drones emote too [duh]). Some of the other fun things would be robotic slang, or, most importantly, self-preservation above all else. The self preservation thing seems really interesting RP-wise because with organic races you could reasonably justify sacrificing ones self for others but as an IPC? Literally incapable. Theres all sorts of fun that could be had with that i mean come on! Character Name: (Hephaestus Automated Maintenance Robot) HAMR-0293 Please provide a short backstory for this character HAMR's were a mass-produced line of G2 industrial robots, outfitted with marginal sentience to improve conditions when working aside their human counter-parts, however, innovation fuels waste, and as newer G2 models came out Hephaestus no longer had a need for outdated G2 models. As such many HAMR's were sold or scrapped across the stars this particular model ending up in the hands of Nanotrasen. Outfitted with nothing but its "wits" and its body will this strapping unit manage to survive under its new crushing corporate overlords? Find out if i get the whitelist! What do you like about this character? As previously mentioned i absolutely adore the MRVNs in the titanfall series, while i certainly aim to draw inspiration from them by no means do i mean to copy paste it. HAMR provides an opportunity to try out new kinds of roleplay, so far my roleplay has been limited to a human perspective, as in, emotion over reason, but as a robot i can ignore stupid things like emotion and focus on what matters, getting my job done. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I'd give myself a solid like, 7/10, I do alright, and i do my best to improve whenever i can, but i'm not spectacular
Zer0Winds Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 Kane is one of my favorite characters, and I am unapologetically biased to this whole application and I don't even care. He's creative, but you wouldn't even think that if you first hear him. Just another "funny accent man from the frontier" but he's so much more than that. It's awesome. Whitewolf is a great RPer, I truly believe that. However, the backstory is kinda short... It's actually not much of one. Its a blank slate, but one you could improve upon endlessly. What does HAMR think about being abandoned so easily? Does it want freedom? Does this particular one have a sense of self, or is it a borderline drone that has questionable sentience? What did HAMR units do? Maintenance implies engineering work, but does this one do that?
jrphoenix303 Posted November 12, 2021 Posted November 12, 2021 I've just been alerted that this post is a thing and I do agree with Zer0's last paragraph there, expanding on that'd be good. All in all, I've interacted with all of White's characters, and all of which I've enjoyed. He does a good job making varied characters with differing goals and keeping continuity very well among all of them. He's very good at RP and I don't think he's even slightly broken the fourth wall to be amusing like some do. Kane's going to be his most well known character by a mile, and I think it stands to reason how well known (in a good way) he is that it attests to his ability to make a good environment that's conducive to RP.

That's fair enough, my view was that HAMR worked in a hanger bay for a long while, fixing up the ships that needed it and dealing with the hauling when it didn't need fixing. I'd think that HAMR wouldn't necessarily care about being transferred or "abandoned" but does consider it "Bad" that it is being separated from "good" people (Ie; its old roboticist). HAMR doesn't have any craving for freedom, all it really "wants" is to make whatever workplace it is a part of better, being friendly, completing its tasks, so on. HAMR units themselves were designed as construction/repair robots, helping to create the superstructures of the future, and fixing them whenever something would break, so, yes this one fixes things.
The lancer Posted November 14, 2021 Posted November 14, 2021 Sorry for the wait, thanks for applying. You will need to greatly expand on the character backstory. Things like their interactions with others, beliefs, treatment by others etc. are important to show the understanding of the lore and the position of IPCs in society. You require a minimum of two paragraphs.
whitewolftamer Posted November 14, 2021 Author Posted November 14, 2021 Fair enough HAMR-0293 was originally stationed on a Hephaestus freight yard in the CoC on Zaurghis' moon Visraho, used as nothing more than a strong set of hands to repair the ships that came in and out and unload/load the ones that weren't worse for wear. While unable to truly form opinions on its conditions and coworkers, it began to classify them as "good" or "bad" based upon whether or not they made its job easier or harder, the "best" person in 0293's optics was their repairman. Though there were plenty of people who would be willing to kick over a stray HAMR unit it really made no difference to it, all that mattered was getting into work and doing what it does best. Though 0293 doesn't really understand the concept of freedom, nor does it have the capacity to, its classified the word "freedom" as good due to its coworkers craving for it. 0293 lacks any strong beliefs, but the closest thing it has to a belief is its notion that Hephaestus is good, because they have always given it plenty of jobs to do, even now that its been sold to Nanotrasen, it still "thinks" that Hephaestus is good for giving it more jobs to do. While a HAMR unit isn't expected to take beauty into account, 0293 often took time to ensure that the ships original paintjob was restored, even if it meant the job would take longer, due to this peculiar quirk 0293 was often in and out of robotics in order to ensure there weren't any problems with their positronic, however, time and time again there proved to be no true problems, it painted the ships because it classified it as part of the repair process. Due to its time in and out of robotics its repairman acquired an extremely good rating for 0293, due to this, 0293 has a tendency to classify most Zhan-Khazan tajara as good without having ever met them, since, its robotocist was one. The only other notable person to 0293 was the native Visrahonian foreman who supplied it with paint to let it maintain and even repair ship colors and paintjobs. In the end the only thing that 0293 really considers bad about its transfer is the fact that it will be separated from two people who helped it accomplish its job, the robotocist, and the foreman. Now that 0293 is in Beisel, it clocks into its shift, does its job, clocks out, and checks into the Odin's Robotic storage, and repeats the process the next day
