SatinsPristOTD Posted November 24, 2021 Posted November 24, 2021 BYOND Key: Ben Aflek is an OK Actor Character Names: (OH MY GOD, ALL OF THEM?!) Borealis Calanthis Demos FAMINE Asclepius Silas Saint Yves Pixel Cordia Caladius Zune Carmichael Tatyanna Mens Poppy Wolfe Carolina Depthcharge Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Sunshine Yellow Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes I have Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I’ve met a lot of Skrell characters while playing, and the species just seems kinda cool to me. I like how different they are than most of the other species and factions. I toyed with the idea of what my next whitelist would be, and I decided Skrell seemed to be the next “best” thing for my sort of play style and RP style. I emote heavily, and Skrell express emotions through a lot of…. Well… motion. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Almost everything. From the mechanics of the character, to how they hold themselves in society. Humans can be from anywhere, and believe anything. Skrell tend to be a lot more reigned in, and deeper in thought. Humans are quick to reaction, while Skrell look at the bigger picture of things. Also, No Slip Skrell Tail. Kaiqi Xilqi Character Name: Kaiqi Xilqi Please provide a short backstory for this character Kaiqi is a Xiiori born in the Crieq'Bruq region of Qerrbalak fifty three years ago. This puts them right in the Radiant Era, and Kai is a product of their time. Their family is tightly bonded, and is eager to see that their offspring do well in life. A strong line of Federation-loyal Psionics, their family was a little disappointed to learn Kaiqi wasn’t as strong as them. This doesn’t negate the fact that Kaiqi is a receiver, it simply means they aren’t up to the same level as the rest of their family. Kaiqi learned they have a talent in the art of cuisine and took to Viv-ID as a VR Chef while going to school to perfect their art. Kaiqi expresses themselves through this method as well, opting to push the limits on what they can do with their food. Kaiqi can be described by their friends as bubbly and happy, and to outsiders they can seem eager to please. However, it’d be ignorant to assume Kaiqi is willing to adapt or adopt to different cultures. They are stubbornly loyal to who and what they are. In their free time, Kaiqi spends it posting new videos to their slow growing Cooking Viv channel. They tend to oversleep when stressed, and the pressure to do better and be better puts them in a vicious cycle. They “relax” out of this cycle by painting abstract art. Currently, Kaiqi is in a “Pink” period of their art. Kaiqi is prone to homesickness more than most, as their young age means home was all they knew. Eagerness to explore faith and who they are doesn’t overshadow the fact that they feel smaller and vulnerable outside of the Federation. When this homesickness happens, they put on their favorite show, or sing.Family: Kaiqi is attached to her family, and their code of ethics is carried with them, even this far away from home. Kai may find themselves reaching out to be in the presence of other Skrell, just to ease the pain of being away from her bonded. Distrust of Synthetics originates from her family unit.Religion: Kaiqi finds meditation to be better suited for their way of life, and tends to hop on the newer faith of Weishii.Credit Score: 6. Kaiqi’s family is faithfully loyal to the Federation, and this gives them a slight bump above what they would usually average out to.Physically: Kaiqi is short and thin, with a bright yellow coloring. Kaiqi tends to sing to themselves when alone in the kitchen. Kaiqi tends to take on the “female” gender stereotype as they find their personality and stature fits it better. What do you like about this character? I play a lot of serious, no nonsense characters and Kai isn’t that way at all. They’re meant to be bubbly, friendly, and characteristically… young. Kai’s not there to judge you, or tell you how to live. They understand their culture isn’t your culture. While they will be faithful to their lives, Kai is accepting of others. To point it simply, Kai is a well-rounded young adult with a heart of gold. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I’m not the worst out there. Every time I do a whitelist, I say the same thing. I own whitelists, and I’m not banned. So maybe a six? Notes: I fell in love with Kai, so I hope this is accepted. I’m willing to modify things just to make her become a reality.
WhatsUpBrotendo Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 You've hit all the main points I feel, but could you elaborate further on the differences between Humans and Skrell? I've also got some additional questions: Who did they vote for in the latest Jargon election? They seem to enjoy cooking, are there any particular dishes they enjoy making/eating? Were they always a follower of Weishii? Follow up, how did their coming of age ceremony go? How does Kai feel about the refugees/the Starlight Zone in Mendell? Have they ever left Qerrbalak, or would this be their first time off planet?

Have they ever left Qerrbalak, or would this be their first time off planet? Kai and their family supported Weashbi Jrugl's second term! Their opinion on the refugee's isn't all that great. They're firm believers in their election system, so the refugee's are being seen as (more or less) toddlers throwing a tantrum that they didn't get their way. They think it's a gross over exaggeration and Tau Ceti should have sent them back, as there wasn't a need for asylum in the first place. If you want change, you have to work for it. You can't just give up and run away from a problem. (That's the IC reasoning. Please don't think that's my opinion OOCly of refugees) Kai's favorite dish requires the perfect balance of a hot layer of roasted and puree'd Dyn, and an almost frozen layer of Nycii. It's meant to be a dessert, but their reviewers are still mixed on whether it's good for dessert, or just a general snack. It tends to be heavy on the stomach. Their family follow Weishii, and Kai doesn't deviate much from what their family ideals are, as they seem to be working well enough to keep them in good standing. The coming of age ceremony went fine, with the final words of wisdom to be that Kai needs to remember to ground themselves more than what they do, as their bubbly nature can lead to a bit of airheadedness at times. The Master made sure they understood it wasn't a hint to change, but rather a suggestion on how to tune Kai's personality into a tool that will help Kai with their ambitions. Kai's never left Qerrbalak, so this will be their first time off planet. It's why I stated they'll be more prone to homesickness. The newness will wear off quickly, and Kai will start to feel like a tadpole in the ocean.
SatinsPristOTD Posted November 26, 2021 Author Posted November 26, 2021 Oh, I forgot to elaborate on the difference between humans and Skrell I'm going to really skip a lot of physical stuff because well, that's the more obvious things. Skrell tend to be a lot more bonded than humans on server. I really doubt this is some sort of metaclique, and more of a need for the characters to be close because A)They're so far from home, and B)They do share the ability to connect with one another on a "mind" level. (Their Psionics). I stated humans react faster, and I still think it's true. Skrell live for a lot longer than humans, so things that are "far away in the future" to humans are just a waiting game for Skrell. Their humor tends to be "dry" to those that aren't of their race. Really, it's just Skrell get enjoyment out of the entire process of a joke, and not just the punchline. If anything, punchlines almost don't exist, because well... the whole things a joke to them. I will say, it seems their "jokes" are really just visual dad puns. Imagine your dad could say "Hi Jake, I'm Dad" but visually. On the topic of emotions (such as humor) Skrell tend to be expressive in ways that aren't common to humanity. They'll have their headtails in a certain position, croak or warble when upset, sad, or excited. Some times they just fidget. Humans do all this too, but on a much smaller scale. If a Skrell is sad, they might just chirp quietly while looking at the floor. A human would cry, or be rather verbal about their sadness.
jrphoenix303 Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 Only chiming in to say that since I've met them, @SatinsPristOTD has always put a lot of time into their characters and made them all very good and well fleshed out, in my opinion. The ones that stand out are Borealis the AI as well as Asclepius the CMO, who's a funny entry into the line. +1 from me, I think they could do very well with Skrell.
