BYOND Key: FlamingLily

Character Names: Lily Walker, Mira Tilton

Species you are applying to play: IPC

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yep!

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question.

Why do you wish to play this specific race: I've always had an affinity for robots machines and AI, and I believe the unique way of roleplaying IPCs, both due to internal and external factors, poses a very fun and engaging challenge, and has plenty of narrative opportunity. The unique facets of IPC roleplay below fascinate me, and I am immensely eager to roleplay both through the societal challenges IPCs face, and the unique difficulties IPCs face with regards to their own intelligence, emotions, and sentience. Also TV heads are cute. Fight me.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: IPC's are unique in two ways, as mentioned above, external and internal. External factors that make an IPC unique are the unique and various forms of discrimination (or otherwise unique legal requirements) like ownership/freedom, tagging, lawing, citizenship, living conditions in Biesel, especially D14 and Lakeside, et cetera. The more internal factors include the unique way IPCs think, being logical, yet not (necessarily) Vulcan-style emotionless. A big part of it is their flexibility in this regard, an IPC can be anywhere from "This Unit That Unit", Data Star Trek, or 99% accurate to genuine emotions

Character Name: S.A.R.A. (Strategic Allocation and Resource-management Android)

The Strategic Allocation and Resource-management Android, also known as S.A.R.A. (built by a roboticist with a penchant for humanising their creations [the acronym should really be SARMA or SARM]), is a baseline frame designed for, as the name suggests, resource management, and the strategic allocation of them. Being made on HPS Sidirourgeío, and promptly sold to the Nanotrasen Corporation, S.A.R.A., amongst many of her batch, was put to work at the Top of the World city. Pre-loaded with knowledge of supply chain management, and the basics of personnel management, she served there organizing various crews and supplies. With the advent of Exteriores, Interiorem and Centrum in the year 2463, however, S.A.R.A. was obsolete, and after a minor shipping debacle, was migrated to the NSS Aurora to serve much the same function, as a Quartermaster.

Due to her programming, S.A.R.A.'s view of the world is unique. Viewing much of the world as resources to be organized, she will often use terminology that doesn't quite fit (but also isn't necessarily wrong) with the situation at hand. Her speech patterns are ultimately very bubbly and positive, to put on good impressions when communicating with external suppliers, yet also very resourceful, practical, and organisational. She often phrases things as if they were resources, such as 'acquiring' memories, or 'transferring' a pay raise recommendation. For quantifiable items, she may even tally them up, a box of inflatables may become "Inflatables Box, contents: 5 times inflatable door, 8 times inflatable wall!" Of course, neither are immutable, and with some effort, she CAN avoid being joyous when it's terribly inappropriate, and sometimes, she even seems to show emotions beyond joy. Similarly, she has not yet referred to a person as if they were property. (Albeit, she does tend to speak as if most people who aren't her direct superiors as suboardinates.)

What do you like about this character? I like S.A.R.A. because of her unique disposition, being eerily cheery about everything, sometimes even when it's inappropriate, but also speaking with a very unique tone that doesn't quite fit with day to day conversation, while being contrasted by the fact that she does have some degree of emotions underlying all of it. I also like the facet of being owned by NT, and I think that could be fun to RP as.

How would you rate your role-playing ability?

Maybe a 7? I haven't done something quite like this before, however. I think I'll get used to it.

Hi! Thanks for applying, just some notes for the app,

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

You've covered most bases, can you discuss Self-Preservation?

Can you add when SARA was built, as well as how her time spent working at Top of the World affected her?

Could you also expand on how SARA behaves, aside from her verbal tic and cheery disposition? How does she behave at work? Additionally, does her humanization by her roboticist affect her personality or worldview?

Ah, of course. Like most species, there is an inherent need for members of the IPC species to preserve their lives, however, for IPCs this is arguably at it's strongest. Every positronic brain has one primary directive that lies above all else, that being self-preservation. However, this need can manifest in any number of ways for an IPC. Gathering wealth, taking a hobby, finding a new job, all things IPCs may do under the directive of self-preservation. Some IPCs may run away from their owners, while others voluntarily remain owned, each IPC's interpretation of self-preservation is unique, and has considerable sway on an IPCs decisions.

S.A.R.A. was built relatively recently, 5 years ago (or less, Top of the World doesn't have a construction finished date (unless I missed it, lmk if I did) but I imagine she would have been made around that time), and served at Top of the World for all of them, up until 2463, of course. During her time there, she was sequestered away, having only minimal contact with life outside of the IPCs under her watch (and even then, usually only suppliers and the like). Naturally, she was left with an imperfect understanding of human social interaction, which of course is only made (and makes) more difficult her unique emotional and verbal tics. Likewise, her life surrounding the organization of materials, supplies, and teams, has only reinforced said disposition present in her starter programming.

At work, she is very formal and orderly, yet cheery and not unfair when it comes to management. She treats everyone with her own brand of respect and tries to get on people's good side. When it comes to more casual engagements, she tends to be, as standard, still very formal and almost managerial, even treating social gatherings as if they were a cargo bay to be sorted and distributed. She didn't spend a long time with her roboticist, being shipped off to NT not long after she was made, however, the seeds that her roboticist left with her are still there, with humanisation, equality, a full spectrum of emotions, and less of a purely work-based worldview buried underneath, and perhaps after a bit of prodding, these traits may be able to come to life.

Got clarification, "built relatively recently, 5 years ago, a few years after Top of the World was completed" is more accurate
