Killerhurtz's Head of Staff app

Recommended Posts

BYOND key: Killerhurtz

Character names:Kelly McKenzie, Cruz Newbern, Kaidan Bouchard, Sybil-M, Sybil

How long have you been playing on Aurora?: A month now.

Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I've noticed that things usually don't really go well when there's no Heads - griefing, meta-grudging, being an asshole or people doing things just because there's no one to stop them. Well - one more head should help towards stopping that, right?

Why did you come to Aurora?: I came because a friend invited me over to take a look after a few years of not playing SS13. Stayed because the Aurora members are amazing - I haven't had that much fun in a multiplayer game in forever, if ever.

Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes

Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about:

Exploring situations, and thus people's reactions, that most people would never live through in real life - if at all, considering the Aurora's setting. That means personifying different people, even non-humans, to see what we truly are about - and mayhaps even finding some understanding about people the opposite of oneself by playing a character that embodies it. But most importantly, having fun with others being who we aren't.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:

Making sure that people don't do stupid shit. Heads of Staff have the authority to do what most other crewmen can't - like saying if something should or should not be done, and so on. That also means holding the people under them responsible for their actions - like not letting Toxins just make and detonate bombs without warning or out of designated areas, or not letting engineers just fuck doors up and such. They're the only people who can make sure that people can do things and have a good experience without a jerkwad getting in their way.

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:

As whitelisted players, they're trusted. That means that the admins hold them as examples of what players should be - as such, their conduct should be exemplar - on top of reporting or otherwise dealing with the less-than-ideal players to make sure that everyone has just as good an experience OOC as they have IC. I would enforce it by first trying to defuse or otherwise stop any subpar player before reporting them.

Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions.

Character name: Sybil-M

Character age: 3

Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs):

Sybil had started out as a full-fledged station AI designed to handle multiple tasks as most AIs seemed to be very task-focused. It's first assignment showed that Project Sybil was a success, as it successfully answered all queries of a minor space station. Between assignments, it's creators had worked at improving it's capabilities, which had produced the multitasking juggernaut that was Sybil V2.68 - as shown on it's assignment to the NSS Aurora, where it collectively assisted Security in arresting a suspect, assisting an emergency crew in restoring an explosive-damaged Xenobiology lab, scanned the station for an unknown biologic presence AND assisted a CMO-less medical crew in saving lives.

Due to that sheer success, it was decided that a more mobile unit based on the software was to be made - and thus, with the authorization of NanoTrasen, Sybil-M was created from the software of Sybil V2.68 , shedding it's sheer computing power and database interfacing in exchange for a more powerful social processing core and the key point of all IPCs - mobility. And that, too, was a success - Sybil was readily accepted within the crew, serving most often as quartermaster but more than once as researcher and just once as a chemist, and unofficially as moral support (due to it's advanced social processor), which earned itself freedom from a distressed CMO. And with that freedom came more success - it continued it's duties aboard the Aurora, remembering the non-unpleasant work and influence of NanoTrasen. After several shifts, it had decided it would at least attempt to apply for posts it believed would be the pinnacle of what it would be able to do: research director or chief medical officer.

What do you like about this character?:

A very polyvalent character which lets me test how much multi-tasking I am capable of AND explore several concepts involved in the existence of a sapient synthetic (which is a big plus to me - I love everything that deals with the concept of a true AI) while also being able to test how useful a synthetic can be.

What do you dislike about this character?:

I feel somewhat uncertain - on the one hand, in it's bio there IS an advanced language module, on the other hand I am half-afraid to be reported if I do not support the synthspeak style common to IPCs. Also, genetics testing is really slow because it's artificial. And finally, there's the fact that since there's no robotics crew most games, I am left to my own devices when needing repairs.

Do you think this character is fit to be a Head of Staff?:

It was DESIGNED to be the head of something - after all, it started out as an AI, which is in a sense Head of Station. While it might have trouble with cooperation with organics (whether through insubordination or being a griefer), it's fully equipped with everything to handle anything thrown at it - especially paperwork.

Why?:

As stated, Sybil-M was derived from the software of a station AI, which means that it has been put in situations where being tasked with several things is not a problem - combined with the fact that a lot of the crew it's encountered has reacted positively to it's presence (though it's probably far from being all of the crew that are regularly on the Aurora) means that generally it will have no problem cutting through decisions and allowing the station to function correctly.

Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions.

How would you rate your own roleplaying?:

Well, I have been roleplaying for quite a while - in text for the last nine years, almost, and in several games for four - which means I am generally well-versed in roleplaying. Combined with my general acceptance from the groups I am in and my success at being an appreciated AI within the NSS Aurora, I would give myself a score of eight out of ten - meaning that while I am very good, it is not perfect and I still have a few things to learn.

Extra notes: I have no idea if it was intended that there was that line above my RP rating but there it goes.

Played with him before, I didn't see any reason why not to give him something like this and his application is very well written. +1 support.

Edit: I haven't had much experience with Killerhurtz yet, however I have come to the understanding that he's acceptable for a head position seeing as though he has written a very professional application and has little to no rap sheet at all. I've really not much to say at all, but I'm always willing to give people their first shot. If he messes up, just revoke the whitelist. But, I don't believe he'll mess up.

You wouldn't want to be like me, and lose your whitelist 20 times, would you? It's not a good time.

I support him. I have roleplayed with Sybil-M I believe it was. Their roleplay was meaningful and had value to it. Granted, I could only roleplay with him one time because I'm always in medical as paramedic, however, he seems to be genuine. After spending some more time roleplaying with Sybil-M, they have proved to taken control of a situation and always use the most drastic measure as a last resort while negotiating other options.

1+ from me!
