Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: (One paragraph minimum) It'd provide new roleplay opportunities, opening up venues such as the Trinary Perfection (on the machine side of it, that is.) and the Golden Deep, another faction I enjoy conceptually. While arguably IPC is a bit vanilla, it still seperates itself significantly with the quirks of being a form of A.I and, well, being made out of metal. A more minor reason is that MANY mercenary gimmicks have need for enforcer-types, and IPCs are slightly intimidating as well as at times comedic for that task. Oh yes, also playing IRUs. Have an Idris Day! Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: (One Paragraph minimum) Psychologically, they have a far more analytical frame of mind. While they are in many ways similar to people in thought process, they lack instinct (Unless you can consider their underlying programming as this) inherent sensation, besides emulated/simulated means, and they are inorganic. This is part of why they are discriminated. The discrimination against machines also allows for more conflict and tension while playing as an I.P.C. Mechanically, IPCs are incredibly delicate- a few ions can wipe them. This adds to a fear for self preservation, especially with the suspicion targeted towards IPCs in certain places and those from such places (Dominia, Federation, Gibson, w/e) They do not breathe, nor do they evolve. They are still machines, even if thinking ones. Their complexity and capability depends largely on their hardware. Character Name: VISCERA Please provide a short backstory for this character A generic G2 frame being transported among many others to a mine in Burzsia, VISCERA (designated U-3412) was lucky enough to be pawned off to a scrapper ship by the corrupt logistical pilot in charge of the transport. One frame missing from the manifest would raise eyebrows, but it was worth the crisp profit. The small vessel's crew made use of it extensively. One thing VISCERA came to realize was that these men were unsanitary- dust, beer bottles, wrappers- during the short duration of down-time VISCERA came across, it would tidy up the mess and flush it out of the ship. The crew were appreciative of these efforts, developing a fondness for the hulking construct. A clean ship did wonders for morale after a laborious day of hauling scrap components back to their vessel. VISCERA felt very little and thought less- while it had evaded the Burzsian Method, it was still rudimentary and dissuaded from deviancy- the only irregularity was its programmed knowledge of Biesel Common, (still lacking E.A.L), intended to translate if necessary for the crew, whom often travelled to pawn their scrap. VISCERA developed a distaste for the constant messes, feeling a certain satisfaction when the deed of cleaning the ship was done. One day, the ship's pilot and one of the scrappers got into a scuffle while drunk in close proximity with industrial equipment. The pilot ended up with a drill through his head, to everybody's horror. VISCERA, dutiful as ever, cleaned up the blood and dumped the body out of an airlock. The crew were trapped in the vessel, far from civilization- as they starved, desperately awaiting rescue, VISCERA kept the ship clean as it drifted through space. Inevitably, VISCERA was the last one left. He made sure their bodies were disposed of and the vessel clean. It felt vaguely gratified, with no more messes in sight. It entered storage, and shut down. Years later, in an ironic twist of fate, VISCERA was discovered by scrappers on the frontier. They hauled it back to Biesel and sold it off, after attempting to reprogram it and in the process damaging the time-weathered chassis further. Unfortunately, its mining and engineering functionality had been irreparably damaged by the latter scrapper group. Idris purchased it at discount, hoping to repurpose it as a Reclamation Unit. It failed utterly at this, being too docile and aversed to creating messes. It was thusly assigned to a "clean-up crew" which arrived after Reclamation did its job. It was incredibly efficient at this, and was affectionately nicknamed "Viscera" by human handlers, referencing its skill in cleaning blood and gore. Finally, VISCERA was assigned to the Horizon, being capable of sanitizing in any situation and little else. What do you like about this character? (Describe what you like about this character) While the backstory is a tad bit far-fetched, I find the concept of a towering menacing industrial frame walking around with a mop and a purple cap hilarious. It would be a relatively relaxing and flexible character (able to develop a more nuanced character in such a setting, while working off of a few traits of VISCERA.) which wouldn't really take part in conflicts beyond cleaning up the bloodstains. It'd be interesting to see a G2 in a position that isn't engineering, mining, or security related. VISCERA is designed to be stoic, reserved, dutiful, and apathetic. It would probably be blind to many going-abouts around the Horizon, having been conditioned to mind itself and obey orders by organics. It doesn't resent its servitude, it's simply content with making a ship spotless. Due to this, it's easily manipulated. Its engineering capabilities are severely reduced due to the botched reprogramming aforementioned, but it can still bust open a door if cajoled. Thusly, it could serve as a tool for antagonists- though there's no hope of turning it to violence. Think a "gentle giant", of sorts. How would you rate your role-playing ability? 8.5. I will admit that I enjoy the word Viscera, however. VISCERA behaves rather cautiously, a symptom of being a Burzsian IPC. VISCERA had next to no other orders, and struggled with the inactivity, thus defaulting to a productive activity that had been promoted in the past. The Stryker Posted August 6, 2022 Share Posted August 6, 2022 Apologies for the delayed response, unfortunately we're going to have to deny your application. The "identify what makes role-playing this species different" doesn't adequately explain the differences and in particular does not describe what an analtical frame of mind is. It also focuses too much on mechanics and does not elaborate on discrimination sufficiently. Capability also resides in the brain more than the chassis. The backstory seems too convuluted, IRUs are mainly shells and the jump from escaped Burzsian unit to IRU to janitor also seems strange. In the future, I would suggest applying with a character from Tau Ceti, Sol, or the Coalition, as people with different attitudes towards IPC can be found in these factions and allow the greatest leeway when designing a character.
