Aphelion Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 We already have a canon use of nlom sensing being used to look for creatures in Europa. It would be sensible to enable skrell who are manning a sensor console to use their nlom sense to detect if there is life on nearby tiles in space. This is a very brief suggestion. I don't think it would necessarily be overpowered, since the only function it could have is seeing if a planet or ship has players or mobs aboard it. But it would be extremely valuable in a situation where someone goes overboard.
GreenBoi Posted February 14, 2023 Posted February 14, 2023 This doesn't seem sensible just by virtue of space being much larger, and would make a logical inconsistency with the existing psi-ping: Skrell would be able to sense life from star map grids, but also somehow be unable to sense if there's a person at the other side of the hall?
WhatsUpBrotendo Posted February 15, 2023 Posted February 15, 2023 I only just saw this suggestion last night and it's been discussed a bit by me and Butter. Overall I'm going to say I'm against this, but only for the Horizon. Skrell/Federation ships having access to technology that has psionic interface functionality makes sense and is already mentioned in the lore. The issue with the Horizon having access to that sort of technology is that it would mean the Federation would be sharing that technology with the SCC/the rest of the Spur, something that the Federation is very wary of doing. Could the Horizon gain this technology from a future Federation-focused arc? Possibly. There aren't any concrete plans for an arc like that at the moment though. Having this in the game would be good but I can't really see the point for the moment when its use would be restricted to third-party ships that (IIRC) don't even spawn where the Horizon is currently located.
