Recommended Posts

BYOND Key: FFrances

Character Names: (Some of these are old) Ajira Srad'maar, Ajna An'rakharr, Alee'sa Kashirrta-el-Ebek, Alice Wilson, Adrian Escurdado, Buck Dunneroo, Eliya Kha'ssad, Eric Humphreys, Fran Naomi, Hee'ru Jalamak, Olivia Ingigneri, Observer, Peter Okereke, Phyllis Grayson, Raphael Manson, Wadiy Shey'filqqi, some others that I probably forgot.

How long have you been playing on Aurora: A year.

Species you are applying to play: Skrell

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Skull's current chat color.

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yeah. I think it's undergoing a rework, though.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race:

Skrell appeal to me because they tend to act in a cold, calculative manner, and value highly logic and organization. However, they are still emotional creatures, who feel alienated due to vast biological and social differences between them and other races. I can relate a lot to them for that. Despite playing a lot of casual characters, my own personality ends up reflecting a lot in my characters as they are often aloof and detached without necessarily wanting to be - I believe a Skrell character would be a good fit to my playstyle for this reason.

We also don't have a lot of Skrell. I'd like to see more.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

As I stated above, most Skrell fit the stereotype of the "distant, superintelligent but cold" alien. There *is* a hidden depth behind it, which is that Skrell can be very personable (which most players might not know due to not everyone reading all of our lore), although the hidden facets of their personalities will mostly be observed when they are in the company of their own race, and not with others.

Skrells also have some of the tightest bonds with humans due to a longer history of positive cooperation, though some racial tensions exist outside of NT and Sol space due to human xenophobia.

Character Name: Tardraxpal Tasyraaatlyss (couldn't find a clear naming convention for Skrell, so I looked at names of characters from other apps. Let me know if this needs to be changed.)

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

Born on Qerrbalak some 40 years ago, Tardraxpal Tasyraaatlyss is a relatively young Skrell. Although both of her parents were simple technicians, she manifested a marked interest for learning and introspection at a young age, which caused her to pursue studies in the medical field in the hopes of one day becoming one of the most prominent medical researchers of the Skrell race.

It is after an excellent track record acquired over more than a decade of working at various clinics and institutes across Qerrbalak that Tardraxpal came to the attention of NanoTrasen. Accepting without hesitation the offer of the prestigious corporation, Tardraxpal set out for the stars, where she would now study the effects of deep-space acclimatization on various alien bodies.

What do you like about this character?

Hard to say as I haven't played her, but one of the themes I'm really looking forward to play with is the one of feeling alienated and cast away due to not being able to communicate properly. Skrell look a bit ridiculous, and even though they're super smart I always thought they were funny and took them less seriously than other races (plus a lot of them are supposed to have lisps or enunciation problems due to the anatomy of their mouth). Having to deal with that from the other side will be fun. Another thing which sorta bothers me as a frequent Tajaran player is the hypersocial mindset of the Tajaran race (the moment two Tajarans see each other they're immediately expected to become friend because the race is about sticking together so much). There's very few Skrells in comparison, and I'm assuming interactions between them to be a lot colder even if they're able to share emotions. So that'll be refreshing.

How would you rate your role-playing ability?

7/77

This application makes reference to many of the key aspects of Skrell and Skrell RP which I enjoy. I am especially glad to read your view on the cold manner of the Skrell from a human perspective and a Skrell perspective.

There *is* a hidden depth behind it

And I hope to see you RP that depth well.

I do not remember having any RP with your past characters, but I trust that you will do well bringing your view of the Skrell to life.

Happy warbling.

+1.
