How long have you been playing on Aurora?
Since 2019

Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they?

Please do not assume the AI is subverted without first checking the reasonable explanations.

Throwing a tear gas grenade in the middle of a hostage situation with zero coordination with most of security and the hos. Don't rush into hostage situations without a plan or the department's help unless it is the only option

As a security officer, cornered an antag with an ion and hardsuit and tried to grab spam them. You need to show more regard for your own safety, and doubly steer clear of things that are powergamey. Picked up a few notes lately, so a warning

Recent Temp ban by Peppermint96

Calling for help immediately after vampire flashing then after a bite immediately got up and magdumped the vampire with lethals claiming remembering the biting, applied cause of repeated escelation issues.

One I can scarcely remember is not controlling the mercenary team and watching one of them headgib MattAtlas's HOS - and grab spamming a raider.

I acknowledge these warnings in a more critical view than previously before, accounting the hidden Admin comments of past ahelps that may appear on my account - I want to try and think more critically when I play rounds and be less hot on the gun when I deal with certain situations. Now with a temp ban on my record, keeping the Whitelist and in general just being a more reasonable player and knowing better should  be ingrained in my play on the server.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each.

What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, in game?

From what I learned from fairly recently especially during large scale canon event rounds, Heads of Staff are major players in not only standard rounds but they have major sway on storytelling and escalation given anytime of the day, their authority within their department to give orders, organize things and coordinate the crew gives players tools to accommodate things within rounds as part of storytelling not just for antagonists but for real major consequences that could happen to the Horizon based on their decisions. - while a lot of rounds may move along just fine on its own without much head of staff, they are integral roles within the game that help bring cohesiveness in a department and provide roleplaying opportunities to individual and groups of players within their department

What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?

While a lot of Head of Staff Whitelisted players often delegate tasks to their department staff, careful game knowledge and being able to teach new players should be a skill on hand of every department head, as being the supervisor of their field, they should have applicable game knowledge that allows them to be competent in their role, not just in mechanics but in communications, coordination and leadership. Heads of staff should be the driving example for new players and existing players that are able to guide people in a workplace, and in game mechanics while also having interesting personalities that diversifies with each heads of staff characters. - refer back to my comment on Head of Staff being major key figures that could make or break the pace and storytelling of a round or event. - Heads of Staff are also provide aspects of roleplay that require an above average standard, because this role should be gatekept to have believable and capably written characters to keep up the immersion of the game.

Explain how the recent events in the Spur changed your character and how they came to be employed on the SCCV Horizon.

The Spur is still a hotbed of conflict as ever, after the launch of the Horizon, the SCC's biggest expedition project yet, many prospects of the in-world events affect characters in different ways, their life situation, political views, and personal relationships. - the majority of my characters are Human and Solarian, they have their greatest stakes and more insightful comments on the Wildlands, and the state of the Alliance itself, while the country reforms itself from a military clique, crooked, and crony government, - the Solarian civil war between the various military factions and provincial governments, (most recently the northern reaches conflict) - affects characters views on the situation, and some even their homelands.

All of this, within the grounds of an SCC work environment, where their interactions with characters and in round events, may alter their perspective, and give characters depth with how they react to things and people on board the ship.

Character Backgrounds:

Spoiler

Michiko Kirishima (Captain)
I have played this character before, being a Konyanger, she's very liberal on synthetic rights and their identity as individuals within the planet, often having active colleagues during her career as a Human Resource Manager for one of Konyang's many and extensive business firms. She's aged, and a veteran of the office and the field if you will, being conscripted after her last year in secondary school, being in the navy for a year and then staying for another year as a reservist before being accepted into university, since the breakup of the Solarian frontier, and Konyang's secession to the Coalition of Colonies, her own political stances always sat to where she was able to provide for herself and her family, and thus she's an obviously pro-corporate and Coalitioner individual who prides herself in her work ethic and loyalty to her new employer the SCC, being a known workaholic and professional staff manager/coordinator, she was often assigned as a Corporate X.O aboard various new SCC buildings and facilities on the newly acquired CRZ surrounding the former Solarian Territories that succeeded to the Republic of Biesel, climbing the corporate ladder she eventually made qualifications for Captain, many of her previous assignments were come and go, making departments stay afloat and then leaving the staff to permanent hands, but now she has the opportunity be one of the lines of captains heading the command of the SCCV Horizon, and with their recent ventures being within Coalition space, she felt just right at home.

Elijah Kingston (Executive Officer)

A Cytherian whose seen it all, drugs, glitz, glamour, idol worship, arts and all the music you can dream of, Kingston was always a popular, networking and resourceful man who works full time as NanoTrasen Sales Executive in Chiye-Gyo, despite the stereotype, he's as capable in clubs as he is in the office, socializing within mixers and living the high life within Binyaria, - there is one big issue however, He. Hated. It. trying too hard to save face, he's always tried to live cleanly and focus on his career rather than staying on Venus, he despised it all, but he didn't want to be an outcast, so he never learned how to stop pretending, eventually, he caught the attention a passing Idris Liaison, before the Violet Dawn Incident, he was offered an accord, take out a travel loan and work abroad as a department manager aboard NanoTrasen stations in the Romanovich cloud, seeing as this was an ticket out of his hell. - Kingston took the deal and was able to work abroad on VISA, renting out a place in Mendell and begin work as a Head of Personnel, despite his capable work, his old lifestyle and paying off the last of his loan leaving him in shambles, and now being cut off from his home since the Solarian collapse, he decided to find better prospects and sign up for the Horizon program, and board the Horizon as a member of command staff, in an attempt to rebuild himself. And stay far away from the conflicts of the Alliance, and the instability of the CRZ.

Jean Pierce (Head of Security)

On the other side of the spectrum is Jean Pierce, a Jintarian who attended a lower strata academy within Susuhe, Binyaria - he applied himself and achieved a criminal justice degree and became a unranked police officer within the VPPF for sometime, even being able to specialize as a detective, however - he came into this knowing full well that he was gonna do Jack. Shit. - he had low expectations, but he never anticipated that the VPPF would be so laughably corrupt and incompetent, that he spent most of his career cleaning up the records of his colleagues than actually doing a smidgen of police work within the Aerostat, and when something did happen, the Cytherians always get in between him and some actual action, eventually becoming bored of staring at the Jintarian city scape in the last days of his career, he did the sensible thing and went private, becoming a security advisor for local businesses before eventually landing a contract with PMCG, impressing the local leadership at a Security Workshop at the only major Security Contractor building in the city. - he spent the next years acting as a security supervisor for EPMC Affiliate, before being fully employed by PMCG - his most latest transfer is aboard the SCCV Horizon, as a Head of Security to fill out a member quote that seemed be below the numbers last month.

What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted?
- Captain
- Executive Officer
- Head of Security

I also plan to make a new Research Director, while this character is still being written, I have only played a returning four year character because I often fall back on familiarity instead of creating something new.

Have you familiarized yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles?
I have, I have most experience playing in Security, but once you're able to coordinate Security, I feel like you're able to coordinate in general, these skills can be applicable to both X.O and Captain. - I have played in rounds as captain before, during mid to low pop, and I have played rounds as Research Director during my first tenure with Horizon Command as Brett Valerius

Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking:

Michiko Kirishima - Captain (A corporate office lady, who can blow a fuse at any moment.)
Jean Pierce - Head of Security (A Jintarian, a former VPPF Pig, he still goes by that nickname, he just lives in a different pen.)
Elijah Kingston - Executive Officer (A human resources jockey hailing from Venus, he's a star, that's mostly what he wants you to believe.)

Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action?
Yes, I have acknowledged that before and I definitely realize that now as I am writing this.

Have you linked your BYOND account to the Forums?
Yes.

Extra notes:
"I've come to realize, while I wont take the past for granted- I want to make my own decisions for now on!"

"I'm sure they'll write that down for your scholarship application Ma'am."

  • Daemon changed the title to Gillian sits on that oversized chair again (Command Application)

Gillian is one of those players where I can't remember a bad interaction with any of their characters. Seeing characters like Rize or Lilith on the manifest (Sec Main lol) is always something that makes me know I'll get at least some enjoyable interaction in the round and I couldn't speak enough on how I have enjoyed the interactions I have had with them across numerous characters over time.

As for the application itself. The answers are all the kind of ones I gave on my own application for the whitelist, and personally I can sympathise that it can be hard to not be too hot on the gun or to make a bad call in a situation I know I have as HoS and been spoken too about it. But perhaps given that it might be good to start with playing a less intense head role such as XO or RD like suggested for the trial. And then move into getting back into HoS after getting more acquainted with general command play again. I always found my mistakes as HoS when I was playing it actively came from being overwhelmed and missing key information or feeling pressure to do something when I didn't have too. And playing other command roles with a chance to step back like RD and Captain helped me get a lot better at avoiding that.

But, I certainly think just based on RP prowess alone. I'd like to see Gillian get trialed at the very least, after all. The Trial Period does exist to test the applicant and based on my interactions with Gillian I think they would rise to the occasion just fine in whatever command role they choose to play.
