[DENIED] Abuta - Skrell Application

Recommended Posts

BYOND Key: Abuta

Character Names: Hakan Taylor

Species you are applying to play: Skrell

What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Blue

Have you read our lore section's page on this species? Yes

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question.

Why do you wish to play this specific race:

I am interested in both the lore, and the mechanics of the Skrell. For one, their long life spans and view on life because of it are very intriguing to me. The idea of a species who views problems in the long term is interesting. I also like their psionics, especially the Srom. From what I have played of the Skrell while playing off-station, I quite enjoyed using both psionics and the Srom.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

Playing the Skrell is different from playing humans for several reasons. One reason for this lies in their lifespans. They believe that all problems will be solved in time, and in finding solutions that don’t necessarily affect them in the moment. Another lies in their lack of facial expressions. The Skrell don’t express themselves through facial expressions like humans, so I have to find other ways to show how my character is feeling. For example, I wouldn’t be able to smile to show my appreciation. To be honest, there are many reasons that playing a Skrell is different from playing a human.

Character Name:Xia’Kaa

Please provide a short backstory for this character

Xia went through Aqi’qa as an egg and Liu’Pluu-Dra was assigned to be their Qrri’Myaq. Liu’Pluu taught them basic knowledge and sparked Xia’s interest in the martial arts. During Xia’s Odurserr, Xia was given many items, but notably a copy of interstellar law as well as a srom-capable VR headset preloaded with Sqai'Laaq lessons. Thus began her journey of life.

Xia went began Untuk’mak at 30 years old. During their time there they developed an interest in enforcing space law, and continued to practice Sqai’Laaq. Xia spent an extra decade in Untuk’mak to truly understand interstellar law. After Untuk’mak, Xia applied to Uyi’vesi, and was sent a rejection letter soon after. Xia then went to pursue a security job, and an opening in the Aurora soon piqued their interest

What do you like about this character?

(Describe what you like about this character)

There are a few things I like about Xia. For one, they’re a Sqai-Laaq practitioner. I like this because it will allow for more interactive combat while detaining criminals on the aurora. I also like that they have no degree, being near the bottom of the social hierarchy.

How would you rate your role-playing ability?

8.5/10

Thank you for applying! This application is a little sparse. While the bar for species whitelists is much lower than other whitelists, typically we strive to have applications cover a decent chunk of the species's lore, or demonstrate that most of the sub-pages were read. Additionally, you app contains some phrases that are out of date or not used in our setting, such as "Space Law" and you mention your skrell being hired onto the Aurora, when our current setting is the SCCV Horizon.

I've been ill the past week so I've not been able to look at this app myself. I have a few things I'd like to point out:

Xia’Kaa

Skrell names still need to follow the first name last name requirement.

Backstory

The backstory is incredibly sparse. As Butter's pointed out, while the minimum is two paragraphs we expect species applications to cover the main points of that species' lore. I'd recommend reading through accepted applications to get an idea of what we normally ask and what other players have included in their apps.

As it's been two days without a response and three days since the app was posted I'll be archiving this. You're free to reapply straight away with an application that addresses both mine and Butter's points.
