CasualMemer
BYOND Key: Casgam1 Character Names: Lung Pinney,Huey Mccune,Austin Weinstein,Pedro Ceres,Huey Ortiz,Boris Nikolai,Andrei Konstantin,Darin Vidal Species you are applying to play: Integrated Positronic Chassis What color do you plan on making your first alien character: IPCs exempt Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: Personally,it is because in most role playing online game i feel more inclined towards RPing as a robot, that's why i used to be an AI and borg main on TG,playing as an integrated positronic chassis would change RP up,and also because i was getting inspired by other IPC players and getting bored of playing as a regular human Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: IPCs think on cause and effect, action and consequence, wich means that erratic or random behaviour would mean malfunction, thus, calculating actions is normal for them. And their first directive is always self preservation meaning possibly dangerous actions are not done, they will always take the action that leads to their smallest chance death preffering a guarantee in living. Character Name: CSANDR (chemical supplies assisting nanotrasen dispensing robot) (pronounced Xander) Please provide a short backstory for this character: Made in a nanotrasen baseline factory on biesel,he's a simple corporate-owned IPC with a simple purpose,be a pharmacist. Before getting deployed on the Horizon he used to be regular pharmacist working at an NT pharmacy. Now works at the pharmacy onboard the Horizon as an NT owned IPC but does not have the latest ''social skills'' skillchip, sounding like a stereotypical robot. What do you like about this character? I simply feel like most IPC players make their IPC characters way too complex,so i want to keep mine a traditional robot (sometimes even saying beep boop). How would you rate your role-playing ability? 4.5,a lot of room to improve but i think i can handle roleplaying as a robot. Notes: I feel like making them free would be very unlimiting meaning i'll have to actually use my creativity to make their character,so,i find making them just regular old corporate-owned a good solution to that. dessysalta
Disclaimer: Everything I say next is meant in good faith and in the least disrespectful way possible. Seriously, it's a blast roleplaying with you when the time is right, and I want to see more from you. The tl;dr is I think you need more experience on the server and as a writer. I feel these responses are very lackluster and don't meet the standards I as a player expect of others, -1. Spoiler In the nicest way possible, I really think you need a better grasp of what is and isn't acceptable not only for certain races, but generally speaking. Things like making off-hand comments like "you cannot stop me from making offensive stereotypes" immediately after a round where you played as a Plutonian who broke into high-level areas and stole pets with vodka as payment (and also said as that Plutonian that if there was a sufficient amount of vodka, you would have detonated the ship), or how most of your background is in LRP, or even just the very bare minimum, lackluster responses provided here that don't even break the mold as to who and what CSANDR (cool as fuck name btw, I'm not being sarcastic when I say that) is. Regarding what I said about the Plutonian thing, even if it is a traitor round, in my head that's not only a potentially offensive stereotype, but also an unbelievable justification for your actions. Sure, there's something inherently unreasonable about being a traitor with an energy sword and revolver on-ship to do whatever it is they want or need to get done (like uplink contracts in the case of contractors, anything you can find in exploitables, etc.) but that was a touch too far. You've been around for at least half a year from what I can tell, and if this has been going on for that amount of time, that rubs me the wrong way. For CSANDR's backstory, you don't show that you understand what IPCs are meant to be. I myself have not yet earned a whitelist (I'm in the process of writing an application) but my general grasp of it is that IPCs are an emphasis of/on humanity's desire to constantly work, create, and improve. Poetically, I would say IPCs are "uniquely our own faults", because there's an inherent disconnect between a positronic brain and an organic, beating one. You say that IPCs follow directives or laws absolutely, because otherwise they'd be considered malfunctioning, but then how do you explain nearly every single IPC (especially free IPCs and their associates) on board the Horizon? Is an IPC that makes a choice against self-preservation always malfunctioning? Is an IPC that doesn't necessarily think of every situation of cause and effect considered 'not' an IPC? Are they still an acceptable IPC, but the person writing them is incompetent? IPCs are more than just "beep boop, I'm your personal assistant." There's nuances to their creation and ways to write and pull them off that make them incredibly effective at telling a story or conveying a meaning. I liked what you were onto with the gimmick in mind (that of which being a typical unfeeling Working Joe kinda deal) but at the end you said you didn't make them free because that would require creativity on your part. What? Why would you say that? Making them corporate-owned is fine and I even encourage it because it's boring to play a free IPC, at least with the idea I have of them now, but don't justify that with the idea that IPCs owned by third parties are "uncreative". That's just an insult, especially to yourself if you're implying you can't or don't want to be creative with this character. Then again, it could also be interpreted as a compliment for those who do write free IPCs, how you would consider them "more" creative, but even that feels subjective. The biggest gripes that immediately came to mind while reading this application and writing my piece of feedback were other OOC comments, like how you dislike IPCs that are more human-feeling than others, or think that they should be more obviously synthetic. Those are fine statements on their own, but paired with the stereotyping (even if joking), short replies here, and motion to make the most unfeeling IPC on the ship, it doesn't sit right with me. I really, really, really wish there was a trial for certain species whitelists, because I want to go on record to say for the lore team that I could just be completely fuckass wrong in all of what I said and immediately be blown away by your IPC skills. Alas, that isn't the case, unless the lore maintainers decide it on a case by case basis of some sort. If this application ultimately gets denied (or accepted) I hope to see you in game more often. I like the characters you write, I just think there's a little bit further to go. 2 Link to comment
CasualMemer
I understood that my roleplaying skills have a lot to improve, but i have to clarify some things. On that round when i stole some of the pets i was a traitor, not self-antagging because ''oh russian evil'',no,i would most likely never do that if i wasn't antag. I will take your criticism as a learning opportunity,i thank you very much. I will proceed to try and make more human characters to learn Heavy Roleplay 1 Link to comment
Sycmos
Hey there, thank you for applying. Unfortunately after some consideration we cannot proceed with your application in its current state. While an improvement was made over your last application it still lacks the criteria required for acceptance by the synthetic lore team. In order to be considered for a whitelist more thorough responses to the posed questions would be necessary in a future application, and I would also suggest reading accepted applications for guidance, spending more time interacting with synthetics in-game and giving the wiki a read every so often to further develop an understanding of what's expected of whitelistees.
