A Motto for Mictlan, and the Sights of Saladas!

Recommended Posts

Lore Impact: Small!

Species: Human, for the most part, but perhaps may involve any species that are denizens of Mictlan if they visit Saladas or want to adopt a commonly-said phrase.

Short Description:
This adds a common motto that could be used on Mictlan, inspired by the San Colette "Hold, fight, win" that reflects a potential cultural view on matters of difficulty or challenge.
This also adds details to the city of Saladas, since there is very little, my character is from there, and she's been describing it.

How will this be reflected on-station?:
The motto addition would just be a nice touch to represent a belief that seems common with the players on the ship - that no matter what happens, Mictlan will endure.
There's very little on Saladas, so maybe people will want to talk about visiting more or something. Sofia Flores talks about her home often, so this would help solidify the way she describes it to people.

Does this addition do anything not achieved by what already exists?:
Gives a city in a certain region some detail when it currently has nothing more than a name and a location
Gives a common saying that many Mictlanis may be able to share with each other.

Do you understand that the project may change over time in ways you may not foresee once it is handed over to the Lore Team?: Yep!

Long Description:

  • The Motto - This one is fairly simple, and something that a couple of characters have already adopted. The saying would be "We are still here." (Todavía estamos aquí.) I feel like it shows a sense of endurance, a little bit of rebellious spirit, stems from the idea that many natives have been pushed out of city centers for corporate interests, grows from a place of being something of a far off planet while with the Alliance, and the idea that Mictlanis are still going to try no matter what happens to them. It's a simple saying that says a lot!

  • Saladas - Saladas is one of those cities that doesn't have information on it, which is fine, it's probably a minor player in things. However, I have a character from there, and of course there is the desire to add some details to really make her home pop. This will include a lot of pictures that inspired the concept. I have based it off the look and feel of a real city near Mexico City - Taxco: https://en.wikivoyage.org/wiki/Taxco
One of the major things I've done, however, is place it close to the ocean, so if you were at the highest street in the city, you would see an ocean. I did this because Huitzilopochtli is described as having archipelagos, and there are lots of large bodies of water swirling through the eastern continent's lands. So, I feel like a large body of water nearby would make sense.
The city itself is very hilly, with lots of steep grades, stairs, and narrow streets. Small electric vehicles were common in the city, especially rented for tourists trying to handle the constant 'uphill battle' that is the daily walk of its denizens. Buildings are colorful, and made from concrete and stone which has been mined from the mountains and quarries nearby.

Here are some pictures of Taxco that inspired me for this (I actually really want to visit this place LOL):

Finally, when I talk about being near the sea, this is the type of vibe I went with (second picture is to present the idea of 'standing on just the right street and seeing the ocean.'):image.thumb.png.d0b06a5495bf2f7fc36b51cd01541016.pngimage.thumb.png.7e3b9370474d1e75e63eef5b8d810fd4.png

Anyway, thanks for reading and considering!

..a "lore mock-up" of Saladas might go a long way in terms of the team trying to understand your motives and the direction you possible wish to take it.

Mostly, my motives were fairly simple. "Give Saladas a face, since my character keeps talking about the place and what it looks like."

I'd be happy to write a mock up, and I considered doing that, but I had a snag (maybe it's a personal nitpick, but it's a wall none the less):
I'm not sure where on the page this would go. Would it be plopped under Major Cities? Is Saladas a major city? Would a 'Minor Cities' section, where smaller blurbs reside be more fitting? At least for a mock-up I would make, I don't know if I would explain very much in terms of history, or economy, since my focus is big on the look and geography of the city, so it may be more suited for a 'minor city' badge rather than a major one. After all, Saladas has nothing more than its name, and what continent it's in.
However, as long as nobody on the lore team has some ideas or strong feelings about Saladas, I could see what I could whip up in terms of its culture/history/economy more broadly. I have more experience with something like Dominia + Schwann, where there's just a person I can talk to to get the nitty gritty from - Mictlan, as far as I know, doesn't quite have this? I just don't want to be stepping on someone's toes, and I've never made a lore app before, so I'm diving in a little bit blind. Sorry for all the unsureness!

Thank you!

Well, Tau Ceti as a whole (this means the Corporate Reconstruction Zone [Port Antillia & Mictlan] and the actually Tau Ceti [Biesel, Valkyrie & Reade]) are all under the purview of the Lore Team Administration -- at this point, @Triogenix and his elected Deputy Loremaster.

Really, every city mentioned is a "major population centre" whereas there's a large conglomeration of people, it doesn't necessarily mean its a huge city like Mendell City, or Arequipa or the provincial capitals mentioned across Port Antillia.

Spoiler

Caxamalca

Nestled within the Mictlani Sertão of the Tepeyollotli Ranges, Caxamalca has its origins within a Chilean colonial outpost that settled within the cooler highlands of the planet. Taking advantage of its close proximity to the mineral resources hidden within the Tepeyolloti, Caxamalca has become an important foothold for Hephaestus Industries. It largely relies on the megacorporation to continue its efforts in quarrying and resource excavation, where the majority of the city’s populace is employed as a result of its presence – either directly or indirectly. Its climate is notably colder and drier compared to the rest of Mictlan, the city has grown within the caverns of Tepeyollotli – where a rife subterranean community exists, deploying methods similarly seen across Himeo with fungal crops, supplementing the imported foods from the rest of the planet, where other Mictlani have even coined the term Pequeña Himeo (or Little Himeo) when referring to Caxamalca. It has avoided the ire of the Tau Ceti Foreign Legion, where its distance from other major population centres has left it void of Samaritan or Founding Movement supporters, which Hephaestus Industries has used to its advantage, expanding even throughout the height of the Peacekeeper Mandate.

Let's look at Caxamalca for instance, in regard to drafting your own mock-up. It gives us a few key things:

1. Environment, which can be used by players when talking as their characters (Joe Mictlan: "Back in Malca, the winds from Tepeyollotli used to ravage us on our ways to the mines.")

2. Primary economy (Mining), which can be used by players to give a background to their skills (Joe Mictlan, Supervisor at a mine in Caxamalca, now Head of Personnel on the SCCV Horizon.)

3. Culture, another thing to blend into your character (Joe Mictlan, who likes his fungibars with a Chilean-style twist!)

4. Lastly, how does one possibly escape or leave this origin? Introduction of Hephaestus Industries clears that for us (Joe Mictlan, previously a Mining Supervisor gets transferred by Hephaestus to the SCCV Horizon, coaxed by increased pay and ability to send money back to his family on Mictlan, or take them away from the dangers of the Samaritans should it ever come to Caxamalca).

I hope that helps clear up some confusion? @lilahnovi

Thank you! That does clear things up. I will do my best to write something interesting!
