pocheto
BYOND Key: Pocheto Character Names: Species you are applying to play: Vaurca What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Unbound Athvur’s brood Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yezzz Why do you wish to play this specific race: I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t partially doing this out of my need to 100% aurora, but I’d also be lying if I said it was just for that reason. I love the bug’s lore. They’re galactic refugees, trying to find their place in an unfamiliar sector. The Virtual Reality is also an interesting form of pseudo-religious afterlife/’second reality’, and their eusocial structure can lead to some interesting roleplay between different types of characters. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Vaurcae have a strict and eusocial hierarchy, and a heavier reliance on organic technology compared to the other species of the Spur. Biologically, they have a variety of forms that they are born with. Their high queens dictate them from their realms in VR. Culturally, they’re very traditionalist in some aspects; their systems haven’t changed over their millennia-long flight. They’ve been engineered to keep the structure of their society running, and have been doing a very good job at it, even in the new environment. All Vaurcae are made with a purpose in mind, and their life is built around their purpose. Character Name: Za'akaix'basz Zo’ra Please provide a short backstory for this character: Basz was created 6 years ago, after the Vaurcae were settled in the Spur, as one of the rare warriors of Athvur’s brood. Their original task was to investigate violations of Vaurcesian Law commited by members of the brood. Their first year was rather uneventful, with most of their jobs being on workplace accidents. During this period, they began to feel the usual dissonance of their brood’s warriors. In-between cases, they began to watch human media in the Virtual Reality, using the large library of their queen. They began to feel a certain kinship between them and the various characters portrayed; specifically, the human concept of detectives. To fit in with their culturally-obsessed brood, they began to take on these mannerisms as a part of their brood’s culture; this was looked well upon by the Ta of their hive-cell. They continue this practice to this day. Basz’s second year was much more thrilling. They were sent to Flagsdale and tasked to investigate a theft of multiple firearms which were determined to have gone missing due to logistical errors, and cooperated with Mendell City authorities to arrest a small group of Venom Mandibles. They decided to take residence in Flagsdale, although their hive-cell continued to live in Phoenixville. They felt they could be much more useful in serving their purpose there. They continued to investigate on the behalf of the Zo’ra hive, although feeling out-of-place with Athvur’s brood, their hive-cell, and the warriors of Zoleth’s brood surrounding them. Basz began to explore more of Flagsdale and grew to find community there, especially among the human police they interacted with regularly and the workers they protected. They had two happier years in the City Upside-down. It suited their mindset much better than Phoenixport, and they joined the district watch, trying to protect those like them in the district. They also gained a reputation among the local toothpaste bars as being able to outdrink the local workers. Basz, for once in their life, belonged. They felt like they had a home. And then, of course, the Flagsdale riots happened. Basz managed to get out into the streets and tried to help with the effort to direct people away from the violence, although they accomplished relatively little and was injured by circumstance in the attempt. They nursed their wounds with a group of Scay-born workers, and tried to wait out the riots. They felt paralyzed like a worker for the first time, unable to solve anything alone. They took initiative, trying to coordinate using the damaged hivenet to help with the relief effort in their local area. Once the ordeal was over, they entered the newly-constructed Phalanx to continue their action in service of Flagsdale, the Zo’ra, and the Court of Queens. They didn’t want anyone to go through that ordeal ever again. Basz was assigned to police Flagsdale for most of the next year. They continued to work hard, although began to explore themself more on the side. They tried to further connect with their hive by getting into the human hobby of knitting, and found that it helped them to focus on their occupation. Basz settled down again, although never quite feeling easy in the district again. They felt that it had calmed down, but that something was different about the city. They could make it their place again… or they could find a new one, elsewhere, like they had before. Basz was assigned to the Horizon as an Investigator shortly afterwards. They’re ready for a new home. What do you like about this character?: Basz has interesting reasons to be on the Horizon, history grounded in previous Vaurca events, and honestly, Vaurca noir detective is a fun aesthetic. They have a strong internal conflict, feeling a disconnect from any group they belong to, and their unique position allows them to have a unique dynamic with most other bugs. How would you rate your role-playing ability?: I think I’m pretty good at keeping in character and not being a shitter! I try to play my characters as if they were real people, who’ve lived in the Spur their entire life. Notes: I’m open to questions from anyone who wants to ask them! LynxSolstice
"Pocheto is an amazing roleplayer and able to stay in character as a Tajara even during high stress situations, so I think she'll have no issues with the bugge creatures! +1" 1 Link to comment
dessysalta
I love everything I see from Pocheto, and that's not just because they made a Drek'za (though that's a big part of it). +1, let her *chitter. 1 Link to comment
HanSolo1519
+1! I've only really seen Lorraine Panosian and Biting Teeth Retreating, but from what I've seen, Pocheto RPs characters well. Especially regarding fully fleshed-out characters (with personal views, interests, etc) as opposed to sum-of-their-parts with species and origin, I think letting them chitter would be a benefit. 1 Link to comment
