GeneralCamo Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 Placed in main suggestions as this is not a policy suggestion, as the policy already aligns with this. Physician used to have a minimum age restriction of 30. This was reduced to 25 when Nurse was removed, however this does not make sense as the education requirements were not updated. Current policy states you needed to have a medical degree and two years of residency to become a full physician, which makes sense. MDs usually take from 10-14 years, which is likely even more so in this setting where you are expected to deal with not just humans, but several other sapient species. An age restriction of 25 does not make sense for such a role, unless you somehow entered university at the age of 13. This suggestion is to bring back Physician's minimum age to 30. In addition, a medical resident role could be re-added as a subtype of the Medical Intern, with an age restriction of 28. This is secondary, but related to this suggestion. 1
DatSamTho Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 Sounds good, but imho I don't think we need a "resident" sub-role. The removal of alt titles happened for a reason, there's no need to add any back in.
NM_ Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 (edited) Generally you'll want your fully fledged MDs to err on the older end. Surgeons typically undergo a lengthier residency + fellowship in the real world because of the additional training/specialization that's required compared to GPs. I would even say raise Surgeons to 32 minimum personally, but that isn't the focus. 30 is fine for Physicians. The Medical Intern role fails to include a title for resident physicians. Amending it to finally encompass all the roles in Medical (all others are already included) will give a more concise track for new players settle into as well as the staff to mentor them. Less confusion (as there often is for those starting out) when they're deciding on what they want to do. Edited December 17, 2023 by NM_
GeneralCamo Posted December 17, 2023 Author Posted December 17, 2023 This is now a feedback thread for its implementation, in https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/17981
Carver Posted December 21, 2023 Posted December 21, 2023 (edited) Since there isn’t much feedback, I’ll say that I’m looking forward to any changes that nudge toward more realistic characters. The grandfathered ages for nurse shouldn’t really be relevant anymore as I’m unsure if any of the old nurse characters who transitioned to the physician role still remain, and enough time has passed for those characters to age up anyways.
