legalillegaldoctor
BYOND Key: Legalillegaldoctor Character Names: Jack McCoist, Ivan Gadow, Arseniy Irinovich, Alistair Macleod and Jager Von Dyke Species you are applying to play: IPC What colour do you plan on making your first alien character: N/A Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: I have read through the Wiki and used it to create the rough draft I have for the character/characters I will be making, including looking at the records templates Why do you wish to play this specific race: Id like to play as an IPC firstly because id like to start making some form of non human character, and try spice it up a bit in that sense. Secondly I am a fan of the Sci-Fi tropes involving synthetics in general, and having just re-watched the good alien movies and going through a playthrough of Detroit become human I feel it would be a interesting theme 9and that those media have given me some ideas) and type of character to explore. Be that an obedient corporate owned IPC hard-programmed to enforce regulations, or a free IPC that is slightly broken and cant afford parts because they spent all of their money freeing themselves Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Playing an IPC is very different as an IPC obviously is made of metal from a mechanical sense. But it is also very different in the sense that the psychology of a machine that has some semblance of intelligence and free will, despite not being biological, meaning they could be one year old and have the psychology of an adult. This means there is a lot of freedom in a lot of regards and it allows for very interesting belief systems, ideologies and even exploring practical slavery by corporations as they are owned in a sense by corporations. Character Name: Z.I. Goole Please provide a short backstory for this character: Z.I. Goole is a Inspector model Zavodskoi interstellar IPC, made to loosely imitate humans with it's new sleek human like shell to make it's job easier in interrogating. They assume a male like chassis, but they don't retain many memories except from programming, they aren't very nice to talk to as they are designed without any social aspects in mind and are subject to frequent memory erasures, meaning they have very little real identity outside of work and certainly no tangible free will. Despite this, they are designed with social interaction in mind, specifically in an interrogation sense making their natural instinct to be confrontational. It's moral code is in almost direct alignment with Zavodskoi's, naturally meaning they further estrange themselves from their co-workers. Their integration is assisted with human like features and a voice that can change somewhat, from a glance it would be hard to tell they were in fact an IPC especially if you were cuffed to a table, anyone with access to records or any official who asks for tags will obviously quickly debunk this. They stand at a dead average 5 foot 9, a rather unchanging average height of gravity-raised male humans. They have a not quite military, corporate looking haircut that stays out of the way and looks incredibly bland and unoriginal, but professional. Their skin is also as neutral and average as possible, resembling someone of European/white American descent with not quite pale and not quite tanned skin. They report to their handler before and after each shift, running diagnostics, having problematic memories wiped and going over performance. It naturally is designed for evidence and DNA sampling, as it's role is that of an investigator it's software and immediate databanks are centred around this. What do you like about this character? I like the idea of a character that has been frequently subjected to such drastic altercations as memory wiping and how that would affect how an already socially unpleasant character would react (thinking about that, it would be a bit like speaking to someone with dementia, which is a bit chilling if you ever have). The idea of a belief structure would also make for an interesting character, and how it is almost constantly in contradiction despite being a cold machine trying to adapt to the hypocrisy of it's human overlords. How would you rate your role-playing ability? id like to think I am to make interesting and unique characters, but I'm obviously biased in this regard that I'm judging myself. So id give myself maybe a 7, to not big my self up too much. Link to comment
The Stryker
Hi, thanks for applying. I have some questions for the application. Quote Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Could you expand a little bit more on this section? It doesn't really touch on how an IPC thinks, especially since there's a lot more to it than being built as an adult. Memory wipes are generally total or up to a certain date (for instance, Goole could have everything erased up to a few days after their construction, but not take out a certain segment in between). Regardless, I can see the character concept working. Could you talk more about the way Goole behaves? Why are they confrontational in the interrogation room but choose to avoid social interaction outside of it? Additionally, if Goole keeps getting their memory wiped, how has this affected them? What sort of relationship do they have with their handler? Link to comment

What sort of relationship do they have with their handler? Sorry for not being so clear on this. One the difference from role playing as an IPC as opposed to a human: An IPC would have certain things coded into them, therefore they don't have to learn them and they may also have certain beliefs coded into them so they can function in a society and not act like an eternal child always trying to learn stuff for the next 18 years like those pesky humans do. Despite this, they are still naïve on a lot of things that weren't coded into them, obviously so the best analogy i can use to describe this is a child with a handgun; overtly impressive ability in some things, lacking in others(except they are not a child, nor do they usually have a handgun, the handgun would likely represent their hardcoded expert knowhow in some subjects, but very basic or complete ignorance in others due to their design and purpose). The interesting part about an IPC and what makes them so different (despite the mechanical differences E.g. don't need to breathe, doesn't process reagents, etc) is the large and unnatural disparity between what they do know and what they don't know, a disparity that you would never see in a biological race (to my knowledge, I haven't looked over the other races). An example of this would be a medical model IPC knowing a lot about psychology and how to treat mental illnesses and how they are caused and all of the data around psychology, but being incredibly socially inadept outside of a therapeutic session with a client. This would be of a relatively new IPC however, because as they grow up they explore the world more and do 'develop' as a IPC much like a child growing up for biological races, through this they can learn things outside of their programming and develop potential hobbies(this is all assuming they aren't scrapped, have a memory wipe or some other event that would cause them to die or lose their memory). On Goole, His memory wipes and his behaviour: Goole would likely have consultations with his handler before and after a shift to ensure nothing of note needs erased (something he shouldn't of seen, an experience that would cause him to develop behaviours that would be problematic, etc) and then have his memory wiped of the entire shift or from a certain time to another certain time, and then have the experience of being memory wiped, wiped if that's how memory wiping works (apologies for not getting this, I was thinking it would be like the Zeng-hu implant that allows selective memory wiping, but digital) This would lead Goole to act from Bland and robotic to ignorant of many things and clueless when confronted with a situation they aren't programmed to handle (which probably wouldn't happen much) should Goole not go wiped for an extended period of time (assuming they aren't on some sort of wipe schedule) Goole would likely start to try and streamline their work in a better way than they were programmed for, and they would get better and better until they got wiped again, or scrapped. This would lead to a character that is stuck in behavioural limbo and who seems to retain a personality of a eternally on duty interrogator, who would always use either manipulative, deceitful, connotational or pressure oriented tactics of speech in and outside of the interrogation room, likely towards people that they were equal to or above on the command structure. They wouldn't break the law or be insubordinate as id assume they would have that coded into them, but they could develop in such a way that they used minor law breaking tactics to get their job done with such a rash and abrasive personality(due to their coding as a detective and interrogator, who would benefit from being good at manipulating and getting things their way and what they want as their wants are solely oriented with their company's interests and that in turn is oriented towards doing a good job) though their personality could evolve in many different ways I'm sure and I'm just talking about one. Goole's relationship with their handler(I'm pretty sure I've already covered the affect of many memory wipes in the past two paragraphs): Goole would be Either ignorant of what their handler does to them, and/or have a subordinate-supervisor relationship with them given that they would be a direct link to the company and not just a co-worker (this would go for liaisons as well, synthetic or not), at least to begin with. Its possible that Goole could either grow to appreciate and respect their handler, or (should they develop a knowledge of what is happening to them and somewhat go rouge in that regard, assuming they were to develop that way) grow to resent them for what they do to him and the fact that they are his literal slave master, and he is the slave. The Stryker
Could you expand a bit more on the way IPCs are treated throughout the Spur, both places where they're treated well and places where they're not? Additionally, how does self-preservation work for an IPC, and how does this work particularly in the case of Goole? Link to comment
